Chapter 314 The Eve
Steven and his crew were making their way to West Mountain Base.
They had their headsets hooked up to a radio and satellite phone, so they could chat with Cindy in real-time.
Even though Cindy was chilling at home, she was still in the thick of it.
Cindy's role was super important for this mission.
"Steven, West Mountain Base just confirmed the missile launch time and coordinates with Silvercrest District. It's set for midnight tonight. I've tweaked the coordinates on the sly, so no worries there," Cindy said.
Steven gave a nod and replied, "Got it! Keep an eye on their network and let us know if anything pops up."
"Will do!" Cindy said.
The night was pitch black, and Steven didn't want to risk speeding. The snow-covered ground was smooth, but he was worried the snowmobile's engine might give them away.
With Cindy's directions, they got close to West Mountain Base without any hiccups.
Steven knew the exact coordinates of West Mountain Base and stopped the vehicle 1.8 miles out.
The three of them checked the time; it was already 11:25 PM.
The car's heater was on, keeping them toasty and ready for action.
Steven pulled out a silver box from his extradimensional space and opened it to reveal 10 vials of some special stuff.
He took out two vials and handed them to Henry and Earl, saying, "These are special stimulants. They'll make your body and nerves supercharged, giving you strength way beyond normal and dulling pain."
After saying that, Steven took a vial and injected it into his wrist.
Seeing this, Henry didn't hesitate and did the same.
While injecting himself, Earl asked, "Stimulants usually have side effects, right?"
Steven rolled his eyes. "Even if there are, they won't hit us right away. We need to stay alive first. After the mission, you can rest all you want."
Earl nodded. "You're right. A little side effect is nothing compared to staying alive."
After injecting the stimulants, the three of them felt a warm sensation spreading through their bodies.
Even though it was nighttime, they didn't feel tired at all, and their eyes were sharp and alert.
Inside West Mountain Base...
Lily showed up at The Fourth Life Warehouse right on time.
Even at night, The Fourth Life Warehouse had people working overtime to keep the power going.
But Lily used her authority to call her students over, and even the power plant manager didn't dare to argue.
Lily gathered her students and said, "Everyone, put on the thick clothes you brought!"
They were about to leave West Mountain Base, and with the outside temperature at minus seventy-six degrees Fahrenheit, they'd freeze in their thin clothes.
Hearing this, some of Lily's students realized they were about to make a break for it.
"Ms. Evans, are we escaping?" a boy asked excitedly in a low voice.
Warren shot him a stern look. "Keep it down. Just do what Ms. Evans says."
The boy quickly shut his mouth.
Everyone was on the same page and started to feel a flicker of hope.
In the darkness, their eyes shone with anticipation.
When they arrived, they were wearing the winter clothes issued by Innovation Academy.
Since it wasn't that cold underground, their clothes had been taken away.
Despite the temperature, they quickly put their clothes back on.
Lily remembered what Steven had said, knowing something was about to go down at the shelter. So she led them to a corner and told them to hide there.
'Steven, I don't know what you're planning, but please don't let me down!' Lily prayed silently.
Steven was her only way out, and even though she wasn't entirely confident, she had to follow his instructions.
Meanwhile, Peter was clueless about the chaos outside.
That night, Peter didn't sleep as usual but stayed glued to his computer, waiting for news of Steven's shelter getting wrecked.
Even though the loss was big, costing him a valuable rescue opportunity, he felt it was worth it if he could get rid of his biggest threat.
Steven's existence not only threatened West Mountain Base's control over the surrounding areas but also seriously undermined Peter's authority.
In a way, Steven was a bigger threat to Peter than any other major force in Starlight City.
Steven's presence constantly reminded Peter of his humiliating defeat, a high-ranking official of Starlight City being bested by a nobody.
Peter sat at his desk, staring at the computer screen, waiting for the "target destroyed" message from Silvercrest District.
The thought of Steven, who had humiliated him, dying soon made Peter feel increasingly pleased.
But such an important moment couldn't be enjoyed alone. After some thought, Peter picked up the phone and called Charles.
Peter wanted Charles to see that the person he couldn't deal with had been taken care of by him.
So, Charles shouldn't get carried away and think Peter couldn't survive without him.
Charles arrived at Peter's office shortly after getting the call.
Seeing Peter in light yellow pajamas, smiling at the computer, Charles was curious about what had made Peter so happy.
"Mr. Martin!" Charles saluted.
Peter smiled and waved. "Charles, come over, I have something good to show you."
Charles walked over to Peter.
Peter confidently crossed his hands and leaned back in his chair.
"You don't need to worry about Steven anymore. I've found a way to deal with him!" Peter said.
Charles was surprised to hear this. "You've found a way to deal with him?" he asked.
Although Peter had a military background, his high position was due to his family's influence rather than his own military achievements.
In terms of basic soldier skills, Peter might not even match up to a top soldier.
Charles couldn't understand how Peter had managed it.
Peter's face was full of confidence. He said, "You have to understand, even in the apocalypse, the military still holds great power. Psychics are not invincible!"
Peter's gaze locked onto Charles, a warning in his eyes. 'Don't think for a second you can take me on just because you've got some power.'
Charles nodded. "Rest assured, I will absolutely follow your orders!"
Peter nodded and turned the computer toward Charles, telling him, "I've contacted Silvercrest District. Their regional leader, Alan, owes me a huge favor. This time, I have asked him to help me attack Steven's shelter with a bunker buster missile."
