Chapter 340 The Eerie Object
Steven and his team found a large cache of weapons, which was a huge gain for him.
'All fear comes from insufficient firepower. With so many weapons, even when facing powerful enemies in the future, I'll have enough confidence,' he thought.
"All of these now belong to me,"
Steven said and opened the Dimension Door and quickly stored the entire large weapons warehouse inside.
Steven said to the two with a smile, "Let's go, let's see if there's anything else good around here!"
Because they had gained so much, even though they were in a creepy underground tunnel filled with corpses, they didn't feel down.
The third Life Warehouse had nothing of value besides the weapons cache.
So, the three of them followed the map to the second Life Warehouse.
However, when they reached the entrance, they saw a pile of ruins.
The second Life Warehouse was the epicenter of the explosion.
Even though the buildings here were made of reinforced concrete and were particularly sturdy, they couldn't withstand such a massive explosion.
The walls were cracked, and the pillars had obviously collapsed. But the entire second Life Warehouse hadn't caved in.
The map had noted this.
The entire underground shelter was supported by a more robust dome-shaped protective layer above it.
Because the dome was several dozen feet high, it absorbed the impact and didn't collapse.
Henry immediately transformed into a strongman, walked over, and lifted a massive pillar that was about 6.56 feet thick with one hand!
Just like that, he slowly cleared a path.
Steven walked very slowly, with the Dimension Door above their heads, ready to prevent any falling debris.
Upon entering the second Life Warehouse, the scene before them made Steven sigh.
The explosion had destroyed most of the rooms, and the items in the laboratories hadn't been preserved.
After all, those were precision instruments, very easy to damage.
However, Steven had no intention of conducting human experiments to create a cyborg army, so he didn't need them.
But after acquiring them, Steven could have Aubrey and Elinor study them to understand the strengths and weaknesses of this technology.
This was to prepare for future encounters with cyborgs, so Steven would know how to deal with them.
The West Mountain Base had only created a dozen cyborgs, but there might be a more powerful force out there creating a stronger cyborg army.
"What should we do, Captain Rogers? These machines are all broken," Earl said to Steven with a look of regret.
"It doesn't matter." Steven wasn't too disappointed. "Take these remaining parts back. We might find some useful information. Especially the computers; they might contain important intel that Cindy missed."
Steven didn't care whether these things were useful or not; he took them anyway since he had plenty of space.
So, the three of them wandered through each laboratory, collecting things they didn't understand into the extradimensional space.
Even if it was all junk, he could still use it to hit people later!
Suddenly, Earl screamed and fell to the ground.
Steven and Henry's eyes narrowed, and they immediately prepared for battle, looking over in unison.
"What happened?" they asked.
Earl, pale-faced, pointed ahead. "There's a ghost!"
Steven aimed his headlamp in that direction, but all he saw was a pile of broken stones and rubble, with nothing strange in sight.
"What exactly did you see?" Steven frowned, holding his gun in his right hand, ready to activate Martial Prowess.
Earl swallowed and picked up a stone, throwing it toward the pile of rubble.
The stone landed in the pile, and the next moment, a large number of dark things suddenly crawled out from the cracks and quickly disappeared into the darkness.
Steven's expression twisted. Seeing those things, Steven wasn't scared but felt disgusted.
Because they were a bunch of large cockroaches!
"This is probably the protein lab Lily mentioned earlier." Steven coughed, suppressing the nausea in his stomach.
"Using cockroaches and worms to make food has been scientifically experimented with years ago. Although it sounds disgusting, these things have very high protein content. If a survival expert saw them, they'd be thrilled," Steven humorously said to Earl.
Henry laughed heartily at Earl's reaction to the cockroaches. "Earl, you're such a coward. Acting like a woman!"
Earl stood up angrily. "I'm not afraid of cockroaches! They just startled me, that's all."
Steven realized that below was a set of machinery for producing protein liquid, but it seemed heavily damaged.
He stroked his chin, wondering if Aubrey could fix them if he took them back.
But even if they were fixed, what use would they be to him?
Steven quickly figured it out. It wouldn't hurt to take them. Who knows, he might need these machines for producing protein liquid in the future.
"Let's do it!" he said.
Steven and Henry started clearing the rubble, and soon the massive protein manufacturing machine appeared before them.
It was already in tatters, broken into three pieces, and many parts were crushed.
Steven didn't care and stored it away.
Earl, outside of icy environments, was just like an ordinary person.
So, he couldn't help much and could only chat to ease the awkward atmosphere.
"These cockroaches are insane! They can survive in such harsh conditions. I can't imagine how hard they'd be to kill if they mutated!" Earl said.
Hearing this, Steven felt a chill for some reason.
'If cats could mutate, why not cockroaches?' he thought.
Although, so far, Fluffy was the only known case of a mutated non-human creature.
Considering most of Starlight City's creatures were domesticated, whether food or pets. Their ability to withstand natural disasters was poor, and even if they mutated, they could easily freeze to death.
But cockroaches, their resilience was terrifying.
If they gained Supernatural abilities, they'd definitely be a big problem.
"Fuck, the more I think about it, the more it gives me the creeps. Thank goodness we don't have cockroaches at home!" Steven said.
After cleaning up the machine fragments, Steven and his team left.
Fluffy suddenly turned its head and hissed into the darkness, the sound piercing and its yellow eyes filled with hostility.
Steven frowned and looked in that direction.
In the darkness, he felt as if a pair of giant eyes were staring at them.
But when Steven looked over, the feeling of being watched quickly disappeared.
Steven felt a subtle change in his heart. It seemed that in this corpse-filled underground, something strange might indeed be happening.
Such an environment naturally bred powerful and filthy things.
"Let's quickly loot this place and leave! I have a bad feeling about this place," Steven said to Earl and Henry.
