Chapter 464 The Worst Ending

Steven knew deep down that Starlight City had to deal with the zombie horde if they ever wanted to live in peace again.

But then, a thought hit him.

Otha had invited him to Silvercrest District before leaving, and now Steven understood what Otha's unfinished words meant—It was an escape plan.

If the zombie horde in Starlight City got out of hand, the last resort might be to wipe out the whole city.

Steven would have no choice but to leave.

He thought, 'Even though the shelter is supposed to withstand a nuclear attack, if Silvercrest District's plan is to level Starlight City, the destruction would be on another level.'

It would be great if the zombie problem could be fixed, but how?

Steven had no idea.

Everyone looked tense, fearing the worst.

They all sat on the living room sofa, with Steven crossing his arms, trying to figure out where to start.

Everyone started talking, sharing their thoughts.

Elinor, looking worried, said, "We know the zombies and rats are underground. There are tons of them, probably filling up the whole subway system of Starlight City."

"With our current manpower, facing a massive wave of zombies and rats head-on is unrealistic. Unless we find the Zombie King and take it out."

As Elinor spoke, she gently placed her hand on Steven's shoulder, leaning against him.

In tense moments, she liked to draw a bit of comfort from Steven.

"We can't do much about this; we can only hope Silvercrest District helps out. So Steven, don't stress too much. Our capabilities are limited."

Elinor was right.

The five major forces couldn't conduct large-scale investigations in the extreme cold.

Steven and the others were just a makeshift team formed in the apocalypse.

None of them had experience dealing with such dire situations.

Steven raised his head and said slowly, "All fear comes from the unknown. Our biggest problem is that we know too little about the zombie horde."

"What exactly is the Zombie King? Is it a zombie that mutated and got smart, or is it a Psychic?"

Without knowing what the Zombie King was, taking it out was impossible.

Earl chimed in, "We can only guess that the zombie crisis has nothing to do with the other four forces. They've suffered big losses too."

Cindy immediately shot back, "Even though they've suffered great losses, we can't say for sure they have nothing to do with this."

"For example, West Mountain Base did a lot of human experiments. Maybe the other forces did something similar, causing the zombie horde."

After the apocalypse, the major forces in Starlight City had been frantically boosting their armed forces, using every possible method.

West Mountain Base's cyborg program and Emberwick Base's military stimulants were prime examples.

Everyone shared their views. But they were mostly guesses, without any proof.

They had too little information. The sudden zombie horde was like a new force, catching them off guard.

Steven sat there, chin in hand, trying to wrap his head around the sudden zombie horde.

What was the deal with the Zombie King, the brains behind all this?

If it was a Psychic using the zombie horde to wipe out the other major forces in Starlight City and take over, they would've already cracked the defenses of those forces.

But the zombies Steven and the gang had run into didn't seem all that smart, more like four or five-year-old kids, always learning.

But if the Zombie King was a smart mutated zombie, why keep attacking the five major forces?

It was like it already knew there were five powerful human groups in the far corners of Starlight City.

This weird logic painted a strange picture in Steven's mind.

It seemed both like something controlled by humans and not like something a normal human would do.

Could it be a not-so-bright Psychic?

Steven chuckled at the thought.

"Let's wait and see! At least we should see how good the people Silvercrest District sends are at solving the problem."

"They've got more team combat experience, powerful Psychics, and advanced tech. They should get some results."

"If they fail, well, then it'll be our showtime."

Steven had a temporary plan.

With his Double Dimension Door ability, if he got into underground combat, he could at least make a safe escape.

But since Otha didn't invite him to join, he was happy to stay quiet.

Over at the Snowfall Cult headquarters, Church of the Holy Ground.

Neil came back, pushed the door open, and walked in. Natasha was, as always, praying devoutly in front of the statue.

Neil stood ten feet behind her.

Natasha slowly opened her tightly closed eyes and then turned to face Neil, her slender hands clasped.

A rare softness appeared in her eyes as she looked at Neil. "What did you see this time?"

Neil's expression was very serious. "Silvercrest District sent a terrifying group of people!"

He told Natasha what he had seen and heard today.

When Natasha heard about the investigation team's strength, especially Otha's ability to kill thousands of zombies in one strike, her usually icy face showed a hint of emotion.

"Silvercrest District." She murmured. "Will they affect us?"

Neil couldn't be sure either. He said, "The current situation in Starlight City has too much impact on the surrounding areas. If Silvercrest District steps in, it will be tough for our Snowfall Cult to grow in the future."

"Plus, Otha gave us a warning. If the zombie horde problem can't be solved, Silvercrest District might use the final measure."

Natasha's eyes flickered.

Neil said firmly, "We can't let that happen!"

Natasha nodded. "I'm afraid we're not the only ones thinking this way. Steven, Megan, Leonard, and Sebastian also don't want to see that outcome!"

Just as Natasha said, after Otha warned them, everyone was very worried.

Because of this, they would all choose to do their best to help Otha solve the current zombie problem, which was essentially helping themselves.
