Chapter 221 You are Useless
What a joke, did they really think Steven would save them all? There were about forty of them.
Steven wouldn't even save four.
These folks have been living the high life since they were kids. Their last twenty years have been better than most people's sixty-five.
For Steven, saving them was just asking for trouble.
"I'm just here for Cindy. The rest of you, forget it!" Steven said, ready to take Cindy away.
But these rich kids were sharp!
Some noticed Steven wasn't planning to take them.
A few students quietly moved closer to Cindy and grabbed her.
"You have to take all of us! Or we'll strangle her!" Heidi said, her face twisted.
Aubrey was shocked by her classmates' actions and tried to help Cindy, but a tall boy shoved her to the ground.
"No! You can't do this; she's your classmate!" Lily weakly protested.
But no one listened to her.
To these students, she was just a high-level bodyguard.
Facing life and death, they chose selfishness.
A few students had Cindy under control.
Heidi glared at Steven. "If you don't take us all, no one leaves!"
Steven sneered.
Ignoring Cindy, he looked at Earl and Henry. "Why are there so many self-righteous people in this world?"
As he pretended to look back, he switched to more manageable police pistols.
Four quick shots, no hesitation!
The four students next to Cindy had blood holes in their foreheads.
They stared in shock, and the next moment, their consciousness faded!
Four bodies hit the ground, eyes wide open in death.
"He killed them!"
The surrounding students scattered, avoiding Steven like he was a beast, all looking at him in fear.
Lily glared at Steven, pointing. "You... you killed the kids!"
Steven sneered. "They are old enough to know how to use a classmate's life to threaten others. You call them kids?"
Ignoring their accusations, he walked over to Cindy with his gun.
Seeing the bodies, Cindy showed little reaction.
'Freaking out? As long as her mind's still working, I can take her back. She won't have too much trauma,' Steven thought.
Lily kept scolding Steven for his cold-bloodedness and begged him to take the students.
Steven couldn't be bothered.
"Let's go, I'll take you home!" He reached out to Cindy.
For the first time, Cindy's light blue eyes showed some emotion.
"Okay." She nodded and took his hand.
"Can you take my friend too?" she pleaded.
"Friend?" Steven looked at Aubrey, who was nearby, looking conflicted.
After seeing Steven's methods, Aubrey didn't dare get too close, but her eyes clearly hoped he'd take her too.
Steven raised an eyebrow, thinking, 'A total useless bum?' He didn't seem to need that.
Cindy said, "She's like me, a specially admitted student at Innovation Academy."
"What does 'specially admitted' mean?" Steven asked with a grin.
Cindy explained, "There are two types of students here: kids of high-ranking officials and wealthy families, and specially admitted geniuses to boost the school's reputation."
"The latter have to compete in various domestic and international contests and win awards to enhance the school's fame."
"Aubrey is a genius in mechanics, on par with a Caltech engineering master's degree."
Cindy touched her wheelchair. "This wheelchair was custom-made by her! I've used it for ages without any issues."
Cindy was really trying to sell her friend to Steven.
Hearing this, Steven took another look at Aubrey.
This short-haired girl seemed fit. Good physical fitness is essential for a competent mechanic.
Steven asked, "What can you do?"
Aubrey's eyes lit up, knowing her chance had come. She quickly said, "I'm skilled in vehicle design and repair, and I know a bit about firearms. If you take me back, I can modify cars and guns for you!"
She added, "I've also studied blade forging as a hobby. If conditions are right, I can make cold weapons for you too."
Steven admitted she had convinced him.
He needed a genius in this field right now!
Steven clapped his hands. "Alright, you can come along too!"
Aubrey and Cindy exchanged a glance, her eyes filled with excitement.
"Thank you, um, how should I address you?" Aubrey asked.
Steven chuckled. "I'm Steven Rogers."
"Okay, Mr. Rogers!" she said, smiling happily.
Steven had Aubrey push Cindy's wheelchair, ready to leave.
The remaining students were almost in tears.
"Mr. Rogers, I can be useful too! I can drive, and I'm really good at it!"
"I know eight languages, I can be your translator!"
"I'm proficient in literature, I can recite The Old Man and the Sea backwards!"
There were indeed many geniuses among the crowd.
After all, they had received elite education since childhood.
Even Lily, a national-level expert, was brought in to be their physical education teacher, which showed how rich their educational resources were.
However, most of what they had mastered was useless in the apocalypse.
Because most of them aimed for political careers, they focused on literature, history, philosophy, and finance.
These skills weren't very practical and naturally didn't interest Steven.
"If you leave us here, we'll all die!"
A girl with long wavy hair stepped forward and bravely met Steven's gaze.
The class leader, Michelle.
She said, "Mrs. Evans is already very weak, and that monster was let go by you. If you leave, what if it comes back to kill us?"
At the thought of that terrifying monster, a thick cloud of fear enveloped every student's heart.
Michelle continued, "If it weren't for your intervention, Mrs. Evans might have killed that monster. Are you just going to walk away? If you're going to leave, at least help us deal with that problem!"
Although the students feared Steven's gun, they didn't want to wait for death.
Steven remained unmoved.
He shrugged. "As if you would have survived if we hadn't come!"
