Chapter 404 The Prime Sniper Territory
After dispatching Lily, Henry, Earl, Fluffy, and other combat personnel, Steven turned around and began assigning tasks to several logistics staff.
It was all things he had repeated many times before, and he emphasized them once more before the battle.
"Elinor, be ready to treat the wounded."
"Nora, catch some rest and make as much of that Supernatural energy food as you can. We're gonna need them!"
Nora and Elinor nodded seriously.
Steven looked at Cindy. "Cindy, you're in charge of all the firepower on the front line. We've got multiple positions, and it's too much for anyone else to handle. Plus, some of those people out there might be allies—or at least neutral. Only shoot when I give the word."
Cindy couldn't stop smiling, her face flushed with excitement.
She covered her red face with both hands and said, "I can finally kill the enemy with my own hands! What a wonderful battle! Steven, Cindy will be your best helper!"
As for Aubrey, she didn't have any tasks for now.
Her main ability was to debug weapon equipment for everyone before the battle and check the entire firepower system.
Steven had her stay by Cindy's side, and he would assign her tasks if needed.
After handing out the assignments, Steven looked at them and said, "Alright, get back to your stations! The enemy could hit us any minute. Stay sharp but don't freak out—this fight could be over in a flash or drag on forever. If you're too wound up, you'll screw up."
With that, he headed up to the shelter's second floor, alone.
As before, Steven had collected all the important things on the first and second floors.
He was prepared for the possibility of the shelter's surface being breached, even though the likelihood was less than 5%.
The women watched Steven's back as he ascended the stairs alone, all longing to follow him and fight by his side.
But they knew Steven didn't like anyone deviating from the plan, so they each returned to their positions and began waiting for the enemy's arrival.
After reaching the second floor, Steven climbed up to the small attic above.
The space here wasn't very large, about the size of a bathroom in the shelter.
Its purpose might be a study, a music room, or simply a place to look out at the distant scenery.
Steven came here because it was the highest point in the shelter, offering a view of a great distance.
Moreover, the attic had skylights on every side, making it the perfect lookout. No doubt about it—this was prime sniper territory.
Steven stepped up to the window and peered out through the floor-to-ceiling glass.
After the battle with West Mountain Base, the entire front of Emerald Estate was almost flattened.
So now the front was very open.
Not far away was the long Eternal River, and across it, where there were several snow houses, was Cox Town.
Looking east and west, there was a vast white plain.
There used to be buildings or forests there.
But after the apocalypse, the blizzard destroyed everything around, and the snow buried it, creating an open white area.
This place was very suitable for a charge.
And because it was so open, it was also very suitable for sniping.
Steven took out a metal box from the extradimensional space and silently took out a heavy sniper rifle from it.
He unhurriedly set up the rifle at the window and placed several boxes of sniper bullets beside him.
Then he brought over a chair to ensure that his legs wouldn't go weak and affect his performance while sniping.
After all, this battle might last a long time, and he needed to rest.
After preparing, he said, "Aurora, open the window in front of me."
The Dimension Door sealed the position in front of the window, preventing any possibility of being shot from outside.
And next, what Steven had to do was wait for the enemy to appear in his sight.
Steven was not a melee fighter.
Even though he had killed Charles one-on-one, he firmly believed that he was not good at close combat.
Even with the ability to accelerate, even after learning close combat from Lily for a while, he still instinctively resisted.
It just wasn't his strength.
To keep winning, you've gotta pick your battles—play to your strengths and dodge your weaknesses.
So, no way was he stepping out there to mix it up in close combat.
After absorbing Charles's Supernatural ability, Steven's Supernatural ability had greatly improved.
Besides gaining Martial Prowess, his other abilities had also significantly enhanced.
First was his Precision shooting ability. With a heavy sniper rifle, he could hit targets up to 3 miles away, but his sweet spot was within 2 miles.
Within 3 miles, he could take out unguarded civilians without breaking a sweat.
Inside 2 miles? Even soldiers in standard bulletproof vests or helmets weren't safe.
Soldiers in custom combat suits were tougher, but within a mile, he could still drop them in one shot.
After all, the gear regular grunts wore was nothing compared to what the higher-ups had. And anything above captain-level—they were either too well-protected or outright immune to bullets.
He wouldn't bother with them.
Those people were left for Lily and the others to deal with.
Otherwise, why would he give Lily the Dragon roar?
Second, Steven's Dimension Door had leveled up—bigger range, stronger energy resistance.
These upgrades were huge, borderline insane.
But if he ran into Charles again, no prep, no warning? He'd still have more than a 50% shot at ending up dead.
That's the Achilles' heel of his power.
"However, as long as I can play to my strengths and maximize my abilities, I will make the enemy fear!" Steven slowly squinted his eyes.
Today, he had only two tasks.
First, take out as many of the enemy's grunts as possible before the fight even starts.
Psychics? They're tougher to crack, so they're not the priority.
But regular soldiers? With his Precision shooting, he could drop one with every shot.
The more foot soldiers he takes out, the more it messes with the enemy's morale.
Plus, even though they're just grunts, they're still a valuable resource for any faction.
If the enemy loses too many, they might just cut their losses and bail.
And for Steven? That's the best-case scenario.
Second, Steven would use his Dimension Door ability to help Lily, Henry, and the others defend to the maximum extent.
These were the only two things he needed to do today.
Once these two tasks were completed, he would decisively choose to abandon the first line of defense and have everyone retreat to the shelter.
No matter what, he wouldn't give anyone a chance to get close to him!
