Chapter 161 Go Before I Change My Mind
After taking a break, Steven took some stimulants from the extradimensional space and administered them to Frank.
To wake him up faster, Steven splashed some ice water on his face.
After a while, Frank finally opened his eyes, exhausted.
"So cold!" he cried.
Seeing Steven in front of him, Frank was stunned for a moment, and then his face lit up with joy. "Mr. Rogers, did you... did you succeed?"
He looked around, trying to find Brock, but saw nothing.
Steven didn't say anything but just untied the ropes on Frank.
Frank didn't expect that after a nap, they had taken over Brock's luxurious shelter!
The victory without doing anything made him very happy.
However, he was very curious. Both of them had fallen into the trap of the sleep gas, so why did Steven wake up so quickly?
And it seemed like he had taken over the shelter.
"Mr. Rogers, where's Brock? How did you deal with him?" Frank asked curiously.
Steven said calmly, "Did you forget? I'm a city soldier king, a master from the mountains, and a mercenary back from the battlefield. Dealing with someone like Brock is no problem at all."
Frank laughed heartily. "You're amazing. I knew I wasn't wrong about you."
"From now on, I'll follow you wholeheartedly! With your leadership and protection, I won't have to worry about survival anymore."
Steven picked up a heavy backpack from the sofa and placed it in front of Frank. "These are your rewards. Take a look!"
Frank's eyes lit up, and he rubbed his hands together with a smile. "This... how can I accept this!"
"No need to be polite because you deserve it." Steven said calmly.
Frank no longer hesitated; he hadn't had normal food in a long time.
In front of Steven, he unzipped the backpack.
A pile of food appeared before his eyes, including cookies, bread, chocolate bars, chicken legs, cream cakes, snacks, etc.
The entire backpack was stuffed full, and it felt like it weighed about 44 pounds!
Frank's excitement was evident as his smile nearly reached his ears.
"Mr. Rogers, you're like a brother to me! Whatever you need me to do in the future, just let me know. If I even hesitate to help, consider me less of a man!"
Frank grabbed a pack of chicken legs, tearing at the packaging while pledging his loyalty to Steven.
Hearing this, Steven finally showed a slight smile.
"You said it yourself! I didn't force you." He nodded towards the outside. "Take these things and leave!"
Steven couldn't keep Frank.
But his conscience wouldn't allow him to be ungrateful.
Frank might be a jerk, but he did help Steven a lot in this matter.
So, Steven decided to give him enough food to survive on his own.
Frank was tearing at the chicken leg packaging when he heard this and froze.
Time seemed to stand still as he stared at Steven, his body stiffening.
Steven looked down at him calmly, his gaze indifferent but filled with an unyielding will.
After a while, Frank came to his senses, his heart racing, even experiencing tinnitus, as if electricity was running through his ears.
He couldn't accept this reality.
He had clearly joined Steven's team successfully, and he had helped Steven secure this luxurious and safe shelter.
So, why wouldn't Steven let him stay?
Frank looked at Steven, his eyes reddening.
With a pleading look, he said to Steven, "Mr. Rogers, what did you just say? I didn't hear clearly."
He hoped it was just a hallucination.
But soon, Steven said to him word by word, "You can't stay here. Take the reward I gave you and leave."
As soon as Steven finished speaking, tears streamed down Frank's face.
He hugged the backpack in front of him, took two steps back in agitation, and curled up in a corner for a sense of security.
"You promised to keep me! You promised me!"
Steven shook his head helplessly. "I did promise you. But I can go back on my word! You should understand that verbal agreements are the easiest to break."
"People have always been like this, especially now," he added.
Steven's shamelessness was evident.
For his own safety, he could disregard any moral principles.
This behavior made Frank cry even harder. He curled up like a helpless child, shouting at Steven in anger, "You can't do this to me! You can't go back on your word!"
"I helped you so much. I don't want anything else from you, just your protection to survive. Can't you even accept that?"
"With this attitude, you'll end up alone, with no one trusting you or staying by your side!"
Steven listened and just smiled faintly, his expression contemptuous. "So what? At least I'll still be alive."
"But if I lose my life because of soft-heartedness, then I have nothing!" He didn't bother arguing with Frank because it was unnecessary.
Their strengths were not on the same level.
Whatever Steven told Frank to do, Frank had to do.
Steven waved his hand towards the outside. "Go! Save this food, it should last you a month. Find a way to survive in that month. I've done my best for you."
Frank shook his head desperately. "No, I won't go!"
It was too cold outside. Compared to this shelter, Sunshine Community was akin to a world of snow and ice.
Leaving here meant death, which was just a matter of time.
After experiencing the warmth and happiness of this shelter, he couldn't leave.
Steven smiled.
Then he raised his gun. "Do you really want to push me to this point? I hope we can part peacefully, not with me pointing a gun at your head."
Seeing Steven raise his gun, Frank showed even more fear on his face. "I can't leave. I'm still poisoned!"
Steven's tone grew colder, "There's no poison. It's just regular medicine with color, so you won't die!"
Frank's face turned pale.
He had been tricked by Steven.
He yelled out, "But you can't drive me away! How can you be so untrustworthy?"
Then, he raised the backpack, "I helped you take over a shelter, and you give me this little? It's far from enough!"
Steven took a deep breath.
His patience was wearing thin.
He stared at Frank, his tone becoming emotionless. "But don't forget that you owe me a life!"
"What? When did that happen!" Frank asked.
"Of course it did. In the community, you should have been killed by me! But I didn't kill you, so you owe me a life!" Steven said, "Now, I'm using your life and this bag of food as payment. You've gained a lot!"
He pointed the gun at the door, using his left hand to open it with a remote.
"Go quickly! If you leave late, I might change my mind," he ordered.
