Chapter 100 Someone Wants to Undermine Him
Caleb was shocked on the phone, thinking, 'The family education of a big clan like the Heilbronn family shouldn't be so peculiar. Siblings of this age can’t sleep in the same room. This will lead to trouble! That's my fiancée, whom I had introduced to my dad!’
Since Reed had recognized Caleb as the grandson-in-law, Caleb couldn't allow his fiancée to sleep in the same room with his brother. He tentatively asked, "Where is Aurelia?"
Nathaniel heard him shout Aurelia's name and suddenly became angry. The way Caleb said his wife's name was quite smooth, almost challenging his anger.
The man's competitiveness made it unbearable for him at the moment, even if it meant taking the lead in words and asserting his possession.
"Aurelia is in my bed. Dare you to give me a name?"
Nathaniel’s tone made Caleb nervous. Scenes of being bullied by Nathaniel in childhood rushed to Caleb's mind. He knew how much Nathaniel loved to hit people since he was a child.
"Nathaniel, I am your brother-in-law."
Nathaniel looked at the number on the screen again and directly ended the call in annoyance.
He turned back and looked beside him and found that Aurelia was still in her sleep.
"Aurelia, wake up."
When Aurelia heard him call her name, she felt something was wrong, and her drowsiness disappeared instantly.
"What's wrong?"
She sat up from his arms, rubbed her sleepy eyes, and when her gaze focused, she saw his serious face.
Nathaniel opened the recent call log. Caleb’s number was at the top. With an accusatory tone, he asked, "Whose number is this?"
Aurelia glanced at the unmarked number and said, "I don't know, probably an advertisement."
Since she got pregnant, her memory had been terrible. She would carefully save the number of people she needed to contact in her life. If it wasn't a number in her contacts, she naturally assumed it was an advertisement or a scam call.
Nathaniel snorted. "Would an advertisement call you by name, Aurelia? What kind of advertisement? I'll shut them down tomorrow."
Aurelia licked her lips, wondering why this man was so irritable early in the morning. Soon, she realized something: the call he showed her was an incoming call, and this man had answered her call.
"You answered my call?"
Their focus was not on the same thing.
Nathaniel stared at her straight, waiting for a reasonable explanation.
They were at a standoff when the mysterious number called again.
Nathaniel harshly pressed the call and speaker buttons, his movements aggressive as though he were channeling his anger into the screen. Aurelia felt his towering rage.
"Aurelia, are you awake?"
Caleb wouldn't rest until he figured out what had happened that day.
Aurelia had already forgotten what Caleb said when David and Caleb went to the Heilbronn Villa to discuss marriage with Ashley. At this moment, she didn't even recognize Caleb's voice on the phone.
"Who are you?" Aurelia asked tentatively, looking up at Nathaniel, who was angry at the moment.
"Aurelia, I'm Caleb. We agreed last time; I'm here to pick you up for a weekend getaway. I'm outside your house. Do you want to come out?"
When Nathaniel heard it was Caleb who was trying to ask his wife out, he wondered if Caleb hadn't been beaten enough in his childhood.
"Caleb, are you crazy?" Nathaniel said.
He immediately went to the window, pulled back the curtain, and didn't see the annoying guy outside. Only then did he calm down a bit.
Caleb heard Nathaniel curse and fell silent again. He thought, ‘Nathaniel intervenes too much, even listening to his sister's phone calls and managing his sister's dates with her fiancé.’
It was the first time he heard of such a severe case of sister control.
'Must I report to Nathaniel even if I kissed my fiancée at home?' Caleb thought.
He couldn’t endure it.
Aurelia tensed for a moment. "Caleb, how did you get my number?"
Caleb said, "I naturally have ways to contact you if I want to. I've told you before that blocking me won't work."
The anger in Nathaniel's mind was about to explode. How dare Caleb flirt with his wife in front of him?
"Caleb, stop talking. Where are you?" Nathaniel inquired.
Considering the person scolding him was his future brother-in-law, Caleb held back for now.
"I'm at your doorstep," Caleb replied.
Nathaniel quickly realized. "The Heilbronn Villa?"
"Yes."
Without further ado, Nathaniel ended the call immediately.
"Get up. Let's go back to the Heilbronn Villa."
Aurelia could feel his anger about to explode.
"Um, let me explain first. Caleb might have mistaken me for your sister."
Nathaniel got out of bed and went into the dressing room. In about two minutes, he came out and had already changed into a shirt and trousers. He stared deeply at her, buttoning his shirt methodically.
Aurelia was still sitting there in a daze.
She knew his jealousy had erupted completely. She weakly asked, "Did you hear what I said? He might have mistaken me for Ashley. A few days ago, when I went back to the Heilbronn Villa, I happened to meet the members of the Sinclair family. I mean David and Caleb. They came to discuss Caleb’s marriage with Ashley. They might have mistaken me for Ashley."
The implication was that she didn't agree to meet him. Caleb took it upon himself.
Aurelia looked at Nathaniel with a pitiful look, wanting to convey that she was also a victim.
Nathaniel, with a stern face, said coldly, "My sister is not someone he can seduce."
Aurelia felt that Caleb's plan for this marriage might not go so smoothly, and she nervously clenched her hands.
She got up to wash up, and Nathaniel pushed her into the car before she could have breakfast.
The wheels spun fast on the way, and the car drove back to the Heilbronn Villa. Before they even got out of the car, they saw a big, shiny G SUV parked at the entrance, but the people inside seemed to have disappeared.
Nathaniel slammed the car door loudly, and Aurelia felt a bit sorry for Caleb's limited-edition luxury car.
Before entering, they caught sight of Caleb emerging from the villa, his face etched with shock. Close behind him was Ashley, her expression unmistakably filled with discontent.
Aurelia was afraid Nathaniel would hit Caleb, so she quickly walked a few steps to his side, wrapping her arms around his arm.
Seeing the two people outside the villa, Caleb helplessly scratched the back of his head and walked towards them.
Caleb said, "Bro, I know you want to hit me now, but let me smoothen my thoughts first."
The way Caleb called him brother made Nathaniel feel a bit comfortable.
Nathaniel looked coldly at Caleb, who seemed to have suffered a major blow, and, in a commanding tone, said, "Open your phone and delete my wife's number from your contacts."
Caleb looked at the outstanding woman beside Nathaniel and felt bitterly miserable. He had only fallen in love at first sight once in his life, but he never had expected his crush to be Nathaniel's wife. He felt embarrassed when he heard Nathaniel say Aurelia was his wife.
Having lived in Nathaniel's shadow since their childhood, Caleb felt an overwhelming sense of despair. It got stronger when he found out he had fallen in love with a woman who turned out to be Nathaniel's wife. It seemed to him that he was destined to remain in Nathaniel's shadow forever.
He felt heartbroken and thought he would never love again.
Nathaniel instinctively shielded Aurelia behind him, blocking Cale’s gaze.
Caleb realized Nathaniel's hostility and reluctantly moved his gaze away, opened the contacts, and deleted the number from the special attention list with a heavy heart.
Nathaniel watched Caleb operate without looking away, and when he saw the number disappear from Caleb’s phone, his face softened slightly. Then he thought of something else.
"Facebook. Delete her from your friend list on Facebook, too."
Caleb looked bitter. "Nathaniel, your wife has already removed me completely. We are not friends at all."
