Chapter 386 Stupidity

Ashley knew she was in the wrong, and with so many people standing up to accuse her, she had no way to defend herself. She just covered her swollen cheek and shook her head.

The atmosphere was tense when the door to the examination room opened not far away.

"Ashley, I'm done. Let's go back." The gentle voice drew everyone's attention. Chelsea, wearing a loose cotton dress and holding a medical report, came out of the examination room and froze when she saw Nathaniel.

Nathaniel understood immediately. His foolish sister was accompanying Chelsea for a prenatal check-up. The two had cut in line and gotten into a dispute with other pregnant women. Ashley had stood up for her friend and hit the other pregnant woman. How stupid.

Nathaniel felt embarrassed for her and a bit frustrated. When would she understand that some friends were just using her as a tool and didn't consider her a true friend?

Nathaniel said, "Ashley, apologize first!"

Ashley twitched her mouth, still feeling indignant. She was also hit and considered herself a victim. Why should she apologize first?

"I won't. Look at how badly I was beaten. The person who hit me hasn't apologized. Why should I?"

By this time, some of the onlookers had already raised their phones to record Ashley. No matter what, she was a lady from a prestigious family and cared a lot about her reputation.

She understood the power of public opinion; online comments could drive a normal person to suicide.

At this moment, she caved in and whispered to the middle-aged man in front of her, "I'm sorry."

The man ignored her, restraining his urge to hit her. "Don't give me that. If apologies worked, why would we need the police? Let's wait for the police to arrive."

Chelsea, who had been standing there in a daze, realized that Nathaniel hadn't even looked at her.

She walked over to Ashley, took her arm, and softly chided, "Ashley, you were too impulsive. I told you I was fine and could wait, but you went ahead and hit someone. You need to change your impulsive nature."

Ashley was shocked. "Didn't you just say you felt nauseous and that woman stepped on your foot?"

Chelsea cleared her throat. "Even if she stepped on my foot, it wasn't on purpose. You still shouldn't have hit her!"

Only then did Ashley realize she had put herself in a difficult position. She had been standing up for her good friend! But how could her friend act like this? She had clearly expressed that she felt terrible and was being bullied by another pregnant woman. How could she change her story when things escalated?

At this point, the emergency room door suddenly opened, and a doctor came out asking, "Who is the patient's family member? Come sign this form!"

The middle-aged man quickly pushed through the crowd to the front. "Doctor, is my wife okay?"

"The fetal movement is abnormal, and the pregnant woman is bleeding. We need to induce labor immediately."

The man panicked. "Then, my wife..."

"Don't worry. Fortunately, the baby is full-term. We'll take the pregnant woman to the delivery room now. You need to sign the form and then handle the admission procedures."

"Okay, okay..."

The man had just finished signing when the police arrived from the elevator. "Who called the police?"

The man who called had already left, and a nurse came out to explain, objectively recounting what had happened. The police looked over at Ashley and Chelsea.

Chelsea was already on probation and didn't dare get involved in anything else. Besides, she hadn't said a single curse word or lifted a finger today. The one who had hit someone was Ashley.

Even so, Chelsea was a bit scared and instinctively hid behind Nathaniel. The two police officers, looking serious, didn't just take the nurse's word for it.

"Let's check the surveillance footage first."

Soon, the surveillance footage was retrieved. After watching it, the police turned to Ashley. "Miss, please come with us."

Ashley realized the seriousness of the situation and was on the verge of tears. She looked at Nathaniel with red eyes, as if pleading for help. "Bro!"

Nathaniel had also watched the surveillance footage with the police. Ashley's behavior was even worse than described by the witnesses. No wonder the man couldn't help but hit her.

Her vicious attack on the pregnant woman was terrifying even through the screen. She had slapped the woman to the ground and continued to hit her. Within a minute, the pregnant woman was clutching her stomach, showing severe discomfort.

If the man hadn't returned with water in time to stop her, who knew what disaster might have occurred today.

Nathaniel looked at his sister with disappointment. The pampered daughter of the family had turned into someone with poor character and no sense of right and wrong.

She needed to be taught a lesson, or who knew what bigger trouble she might cause in the future.

"Officer, please handle this according to the law."

Nathaniel's words made Ashley feel desperate. She stared at him with bloodshot eyes, shocked that her own brother wouldn't help her and was asking the police to handle it by the book.

He was really going to watch her get taken away by the police.

Ashley even forgot to cry. She knew her brother's capabilities. If he intervened, she would just go through the motions and be released after a few questions. But his current attitude meant he was giving up on her.

After Ashley was taken away by the police, Nathaniel asked the doctor about the pregnant woman's condition. He arranged for the most authoritative obstetrician to take care of her, covered the medical expenses, and only left the building after confirming that the injured pregnant woman was okay.

In the parking lot, a simply dressed woman was leaning against the Bentley, looking like she had been waiting for a long time but still full of patience and energy.

Nathaniel walked closer and saw that it was Chelsea.

"Nathaniel, are you done?"

Nathaniel's expression turned cold. "Stay away from my sister. She may not be very smart, but she shouldn't be used by others."

Chelsea chuckled softly. "Nathaniel, how could you misunderstand me so deeply? Ashley and I are classmates and best friends. We've been friends for so many years. How could I use her? The same goes for you. I've never wanted to do anything to harm you. Instead, you've trampled on my sincere feelings."

Nathaniel found it ironic. "Have you forgotten what you've done?"

Chelsea had meticulously plotted to kill Aurelia. Nathaniel still felt terrified when he thought about it. Aurelia and the children were lucky to have survived, but he would never forget the lesson and wouldn't forgive easily.
