Chapter 420 Adults Have So Many Secrets
The door clicked shut from the inside.
Nathaniel stood outside the door, grinning foolishly.
His phone chimed with a message notification. The message he sent to his classmate at noon finally got a reply. He quickly opened it. His phone automatically translated his classmate's text into Nathaniel's country's language.
His classmate: [What do you want to find out about that hospital?]
Nathaniel: [I want to check someone's medical records. Do you have a way?]
[Send me the name, I'll try.]
[The name is Burry. She's been visiting that hospital in the past few days. Thanks!]
After sending the message, Nathaniel also sent Burry's photo to make it easier to check.
For the next few minutes, there was no reply.
Aurelia came out of the bathroom and saw him staring at his phone, deep in thought. "Where did you get Norman's hair?"
Nathaniel reached out to Aurelia, and she walked over and sat beside him.
"I went to the prison a few days ago. Norman still fantasizes that I can get him out."
Aurelia snorted. "Even now, he doesn't forget to use me."
Nathaniel's large hand moved to the back of her head, stroking her smooth hair. The next second, he gently pulled her to lean on his shoulder.
"Remember to find your boyfriend if you need anything. I'm more helpful than Norman."
Aurelia snorted. "I wouldn't go to Norman. When I needed him as a child, he was never there. Now that I'm grown, I can take care of myself. I don't need anyone."
Aurelia's words were bold, making Nathaniel feel a sense of failure. As a man, who wouldn't want to be the one their girlfriend relied on? But his girlfriend seemed too strong, making him feel unnecessary.
His large hand stayed on the back of her head, his index finger twirling a strand of her hair.
"Aurelia, relying on others can make things easier for yourself. There are many things you can ask others for help with, like your brother or me."
Aurelia lifted her head from his shoulder, creating some distance to look at him, then smiled. Over the years, she had habitually thought that all men, except her brother, were unreliable.
Norman was like that, and so was Nathaniel.
But now, Nathaniel was proving with every word and action that he was dependable.
Aurelia, used to being independent, thought she might need to slowly get used to his changes and not judge him by his past self.
Nathaniel saw a different emotion in her eyes, like recognition and affirmation.
He continued, "I also got Burry's daily necessities. They will be sent back soon. I'll use them for another test with Norman's. But I think if the test results show that you and he are not biologically related, there's no need to test Burry's."
Aurelia paused. "Do you think my mom had twins, me and Burry, and then Norman sent one of us, Burry, away?"
Nathaniel pulled her closer, letting her half-lie on his lap.
"Your guess isn't impossible. Norman knew the children weren't his, but he needed your mom's help for his career. He didn't dare to do anything openly, but he couldn't get over it, so he secretly sent one child away to ease his mind."
Nathaniel's analysis was so logical that Aurelia felt it might be the truth.
Mentioning Norman made Aurelia angry. If it weren't for the crazy women he attracted, Brenda wouldn't have had those accidents and lost her life.
Although Maria got the punishment she deserved, Chelsea was still out there.
"Norman, that scumbag, should be the first to go to hell!" Aurelia couldn't help but curse.
Nathaniel comforted her. "I'll help you find your family members one by one."
The two cuddled on the sofa as the sun set and the sky darkened outside.
Aurelia got up from his lap. "Let's go downstairs. I wonder if Grandpa can handle those two kids."
Aurelia was ready to leave and put on her high heels. When they got downstairs, Reed was playing games with the two kids, a harmonious scene.
Aurelia didn't want to interrupt. She waited until their game ended to call them.
"Dorothy, Jacob, it's time to go home. Say goodbye to your great grandpa."
Reed and the two kids stopped playing, looking a bit reluctant.
Jacob comforted, "Great Grandpa, my sister and I will come to play with you next time. We'll bring you a gift."
Dorothy snuggled into Reed's arms. "Great Grandpa, I'm going home with Mommy. Be good at home."
Reed laughed. "Okay. I will wait for you to come next time. I'll buy some toys for us to play with together, okay?"
"Great!"
"Great!"
The two kids answered almost simultaneously.
Nathaniel held the keys. "Alright, I will pick you up when I have time."
As they were about to leave, the two kids reluctantly waved goodbye to Reed.
Nathaniel drove them back to the Semona Villa. Outside the gate, Nathaniel put the two kids down and said seriously, "I've something to discuss with you."
The two kids didn't know what he wanted to say and were puzzled.
Dorothy couldn't help but ask curiously, "Daddy, what is it?"
Nathaniel organized his words. "The details of Daddy and Mommy's life at home are our family's secrets. You can't tell anyone."
Jacob's eyes rolled, and he asked defiantly, "Daddy, Great Grandpa is also part of our family. Didn't you tell me that last time? How is he an outsider?"
Nathaniel's brow twitched.
"Yes, he is indeed not an outsider, but everyone has their own little secrets and space. Daddy and Mommy don't want our lives to be spied on by others. So can you promise Daddy to keep our secrets?"
Dorothy scratched her head, half understanding. "Daddy, you adults have so many secrets!"
She still remembered when she was called over by Nathaniel to keep a secret at Imperick. Adults were really complicated.
Dorothy reluctantly nodded. "Okay, I promise to keep the secret."
Nathaniel then asked Jacob, "Jacob, can you help Daddy and Mommy keep the secret?"
Jacob pouted. "Depends on your performance!"
Nathaniel was taken aback. What kind of tone was that? Just like his mom, asking him to perform!
