Chapter 500 Purely Bathing, Nothing Else

"Mr. Semona, I'll give back all the money I took, okay? I didn't make much from it, you can check. Just let me go, please."

"Are you deaf? Someone died because of you! This isn't just about the money."

"Mr. Semona, please, don't call the cops. I'll talk to the victim's family, see if I can calm them down and settle this."

Thaddeus felt a knot in his stomach. He regretted not asking his nephew for help right away. Maybe if he'd offered some money back then, they wouldn't have come after him. Now, things were way out of hand.

Joe snorted, "What are you thinking? Just stay put and try to keep your conscience clear. Don't let the souls of those buried under the rubble haunt you."

With that, Joe left, leaving Thaddeus alone in the room, anxious and restless. Outside, Joe had stationed guards to watch him, so escape was out of the question. He was stuck in this tiny ten-square-meter space.

Thaddeus paced the floor and dialed his sister Beatrice's number again.

"Beatrice, Beatrice, you gotta help me. I can't get out. Joe's got me locked up, and he said he's calling the cops. Am I going to jail? Beatrice, you're my sister, please come back from your trip!"

Beatrice yawned. It was the middle of the night where she was, and she had been sleeping soundly before the call.

"Thaddeus, don't freak out. It's not as bad as you think. It's just about money, isn't it? I'll transfer some to you. Make it useful. If it's not enough, I'll send more."

Still groggy and eager to get back to her beauty sleep, Beatrice said, "I am transferring money now. We'll talk more in the morning. Don't call again tonight."

She hung up and transferred a million dollars to Thaddeus. His panic subsided a bit, knowing Beatrice had his back. However, he still needed to inform Nathaniel, just in case he needed his nephew's help.

Nathaniel had just returned to Bloom Villa with Aurelia. They were unpacking their luggage after a long day of travel. Seeing Thaddeus's call, Nathaniel answered, and Thaddeus's desperate voice came through.

"Nathaniel, I'm in big trouble. You have to help me. I have no one else to turn to."

Nathaniel, used to Thaddeus's pleas for money, asked directly, "How much do you need this time?"

Thaddeus, grateful, replied, "Nathaniel, it's not about money this time. I'm really in trouble."

Thaddeus explained everything in detail. Nathaniel's expression grew serious as he listened.

"Uncle, I can't help you with this. You should cooperate with the police and be honest. Maybe they'll go easier on you."

Thaddeus started crying, a grown man sobbing in the middle of the night.

"Nathaniel, please, don't leave me hanging. Remember when you fell out of that tree as a kid? I was the first one to pick you up. I'm begging you, help me out here. Joe's ruthless. Can't you talk to him for me?"

Nathaniel felt a headache coming on. His relationship with Joe had just started to improve. He had just dealt with his mother, and now his uncle was causing trouble. It seemed like there was always something getting in the way of his pursuit of Aurelia.

"Uncle, you didn't mention my name to Joe, did you?"

"I did. Joe seemed to recognize you. Please, talk to him for me. I have no other options."

Nathaniel felt a wave of despair.

"Uncle, I have to go. We'll talk later."

Ignoring Thaddeus's cries, Nathaniel hung up and sat on the bed, exhausted. Aurelia, who had been unpacking, overheard the name "Joe" and couldn't help but ask, "Did Joe contact you?"

Nathaniel, both physically and emotionally drained, looked at her and asked, "Aurelia, do you think I'll ever be able to win you over?"

Aurelia sat beside him. "Why do you ask that?"

Nathaniel explained, "My uncle works for Joe and got into serious trouble. He called me for help and mentioned our connection to Joe. Do you think I still have a chance with your family?"

Nathaniel held her delicate wrist, his eyes filled with doubt.

Aurelia thought for a moment, "Is this the trouble Joe came to Imperick to handle? Your uncle's mess?"

Nathaniel nodded wearily, "Aurelia, it feels like everyone except my grandfather is against us being together."

Aurelia lay back, staring at the ceiling, "Not everyone. Your two kids are on your side, too."

Nathaniel smiled bitterly. Those three were his closest family.

"For them, I'll keep trying."

Aurelia sat up, noticing the red in his eyes, "Are you tired? Did you sleep at all last night?"

"A little."

"Don't lie. Your eyes are barely open."

Nathaniel chuckled, "Look at yourself. You have dark circles, too. Did you sleep?"

They shared a knowing smile, unable to deceive each other.

"Let's wash up and get some rest. We have a busy day tomorrow."

Aurelia picked up her pajamas and was ready to shower. Nathaniel still held her wrist, not letting go.

"Want to shower together?"

Aurelia's heart skipped a beat. "No, I'm really tired. Besides, we didn't bring any protection. I don't want to risk a second baby right now."

Nathaniel laughed, "You think I'd dare? Your grandmother would kill me if we had another baby now."

He stood up, still holding her hand, "Just a shower, nothing else."

Aurelia looked at him skeptically, but before she could protest, Nathaniel gently pushed her towards the bathroom, grabbing his own pajamas on the way.

Can't win me back
