Chapter 344 The Person Who Secretly Gave Money
Nathaniel felt the urgency to address this issue immediately.
Marcus was already thirty-five and showed no interest in settling down. As his family, Nathaniel felt it was time for Reed to give Marcus a nudge.
He opened his computer and found the list of eligible women Beatrice had sent a while back. He forwarded it to Reed.
After sending the message to Reed, an overseas email popped up.
He clicked on it and saw the photos in the email. His hand froze on the touchpad, and he was stunned.
Not long ago, he had someone investigate Marcus's years abroad. The email was full of photos of Marcus with a woman, both looking very close and affectionate. Marcus's eyes were filled with love when he looked at the woman, a side Nathaniel had never seen before.
The woman looked exactly like Aurelia—her face, figure, demeanor, and even her mannerisms were just the same.
Nathaniel was filled with a cold, uneasy feeling. He couldn't make sense of the situation; his mind was a foggy mess.
He reviewed the days since he met Aurelia.
He first met Aurelia under Reed's pressure. At that time, Aurelia had lost her family and was alone in the world, longing for a home.
After marrying into the Heilbronn family, it was impossible for her to have had contact with Marcus. Before marrying into the Heilbronn family, she attended college in Imperick and couldn't have lived abroad for long periods.
Most importantly, Aurelia wouldn't lie to him.
He carefully read the contents of the email: [The information you asked for about Marcus over the past ten years is mostly here. I selected some photos for you to look at. He had a marriage in Elvenia, and they were very much in love. Unfortunately, seven years ago, they encountered an avalanche while traveling in Nephoria. Marcus was lucky to survive, but his wife wasn't so fortunate. Marcus spent the next three years living in Nephoria, staying near those mountains, immersed in pain every day. Later, for some unknown reason, he suddenly decided to return home.]
Nathaniel felt a bit panicked as he read the email.
The reason Marcus decided to return home was no mystery; it was because he saw the family photo Reed posted. In it, he saw Aurelia.
At this moment, Dorothy had been taken to the restroom by a secretary.
Nathaniel looked at the cats playing around on the floor and thought of Jacob.
He had heard that having twins required certain genetic factors, and no one in the Heilbronn family had had twins for generations.
He wondered if Aurelia might have a twin sister.
Dorothy came back inside, her hands freshly washed and ready to play with the cats.
Nathaniel grabbed a tissue from the table, walked over, and bent down to gently dry her hands.
"Dorothy, shall we go pick up Mommy from work?"
Dorothy jumped with joy,
"Yes, yes, let's go pick up Mommy from school!"
Nathaniel chuckled. "It's work, sweetie."
After saying that, Nathaniel called Zack and had the staff from the front desk come up to carry the cats. All the cats were put into Nathaniel's car without cages, just loose.
Zack watched the kitten scratching at the expensive leather seat and couldn't help but feel sorry for Nathaniel. That seat's upholstery alone costs a small fortune, and now he was letting the cats ruin it.
To the wealthy, money seemed to mean nothing.
After fastening Dorothy's seatbelt, Nathaniel drove straight to Thompson Enterprises.
Aurelia didn't have her own office at the company; she was just there temporarily and didn't want to take up any resources. For the time being, she was sharing Patrick's office, making do with the space, and it was convenient for her to ask for help whenever she needed it.
Patrick returned from a meeting to find her frowning at the computer screen. Before Aurelia could ask, he approached her. "Aurelia, is there something you don't understand?"
Aurelia's screen showed an email from the marketing manager. The marketing department had been signing deals frequently these past two days, selling off years of accumulated scrap at high prices, bringing in a lot of money for the company.
Even though Aurelia was new to this industry, she could understand that scrap was useless. Leaving it there was just a pile of junk, but selling it at a high price, if these scrapped parts ended up in the market and were used in a car, wouldn't that be harmful?
Aurelia's mother had died in a car accident, and she had experienced one herself. She couldn't bring herself to do such a thing.
"Patrick, the marketing department sold all the scrap parts to Eden Industries. Won't that cause problems?"
Patrick took a sip of coffee.
"Don't worry, Gabriel may be greedy, but he's not reckless enough to resell those scrap parts into the market."
Aurelia was taken aback. "Then why did he buy these scrap parts at a high price?"
Patrick chuckled. If he guessed correctly, someone must be supporting this from behind. His business principles wouldn't allow these scrapped items to be sold again, but he couldn't resist the temptation of 'anonymous cash'.
Free money? Why not take it? It just solved the cash flow problem for this quarter.
Patrick hesitated to tell her the whole story. He already knew about Aurelia and Nathaniel's past, and now the person funding this from behind was, in a way, his romantic rival—a very formidable one.
Before Patrick could figure it out, he saw a tall figure at the door, seemingly with a bit of resentment.
He ignored it, nonchalantly bending down and placing his arm on Aurelia's desk. From Nathaniel's angle, this posture looked intimate and ambiguous.
Patrick put his coffee cup on the table.
"Aurelia, I'll make sure to keep an eye on Gabriel. In this industry, we have to act with integrity and never risk others' lives for profit. Don't worry; what you're concerned about won't happen."
Aurelia was focused on the computer when she was suddenly enveloped by Patrick's faint cologne. She looked up warily, her view partially blocked by Patrick.
Instinctively, Aurelia moved her chair to the side. This movement allowed her to see Nathaniel standing at the door with a complex expression in his eyes, holding Dorothy.
Looking up again at Patrick leaning on the desk, Patrick had a smile on his lips, seemingly intentional.
"Mommy, I'm here to pick you up from work!"
Dorothy rushed over from the door, holding a fruit drink and handing it to Aurelia.
"This is for you!"
Patrick finally stepped back and settled into his office chair.
Nathaniel's face was flushed with anger.
