Chapter 199 Swear
In Coral Bay, in the upscale office building, Joe stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, radiating a murderous aura. He had only been away for a few days, and such a thing had happened. He deeply regretted not bringing Aurelia back immediately.
He had no idea how to explain this to Cathy.
"Is this how you protect Miss Semona? I've been gone for just a few days, and look what's happened. You lot are a bunch of incompetents. Once you've settled her, come back and apologize. I don't pay you to be useless!"
On the other end of the phone was his assistant who had been with him for seven years.
If voices could kill, the assistant would have been dead a thousand times over. The boss had left him in charge, and such a major incident happened right under his nose. It was like the sky had fallen.
He was too scared to speak. Reporting Aurelia's car accident to Joe was like walking on eggshells.
"Mr. Semona, I'm sorry. Our people were following her but couldn't prevent the car accident. The driver has been detained by our people. From the surveillance footage, it looks the accident was manipulated intentionally."
Joe's grip on the phone tightened, his arm tensed with visible veins, his voice a dangerous growl. "Once you've figured out the full story, sell that person on the black market."
The assistant could feel Joe's overwhelming anger through the phone.
He's sweating bullets with the stress, wondering if the guy they sent to the black market would actually make it. Not even a complete corpse left, as his organs would all be sold out.
He spoke carefully, fearing that the slightest slip might land him in the black market as well, "Mr. Semona, we've already assigned all our men to guard her, rest assured."
Joe snorted with his hands on his hips. "Rest assured? You almost lost her, and now you want me to rest assured? No matter what, keep Nathaniel away from her If anything else happens, you..."
At this point, the assistant was so scared he got goosebumps and quickly interrupted, "Mr. Semona, there won't be any more accidents. I swear on my life."
Joe said, "I've already mobilized Imperick's best medical resources. Be extra careful guarding her. You know how to work with your head on the line?"
Knowing the gravity of the situation, the assistant understood that his boss had been searching for his sister for years. Now that they'd finally found her, such an accident happened under their protection.
Joe's temper was at an all-time high. He was probably barely restraining himself from committing murder.
"Mr. Semona, we're all guarding outside the ward. If Ms. Semona needs anything, even a heart, kidney, or brain transplant, we won't hesitate!"
After such a vow, Joe finally stopped cursing.
In the hospital, the usually resource-strapped emergency room was filled with experts today, with more specialists arriving by car, all rushing to the operating room. Time was life, and their task was to snatch someone from the Grim Reaper.
That afternoon, Merry Hospital gathered the most authoritative experts from all departments of Imperick for a consultation. All other patients had to wait; emergency cases were prioritized.
These experts usually had a two-week waiting list for appointments.
In the emergency room, Aurelia had completely lost consciousness, unaware of the group of experts surrounding her. These doctors were under orders; if they couldn't save her, their reputations would be ruined by the person from Coral Bay.
In the hospital's inpatient building, Reed was anxiously pacing. He couldn't reach Aurelia or Nathaniel by phone and sensed something was wrong.
"Ted, I asked you to check on Aurelia's whereabouts. Have you done it?" Reed asked.
Ted's hands were clenched into fists at his sides as he nervously lied, "Mr. Reed, I haven't found out yet. Don't worry, nothing will happen. Mrs. Heilbronn probably just broke her phone. She'll call you once she gets a new one. Let's eat first; you haven't had dinner, and your body can't take it."
Ted's men had already discovered the horrific car accident that afternoon. He didn't dare mention that Aurelia had the accident after divorcing Nathaniel, and that Nathaniel had immediately married Chelsea.
He thinks, 'When Mrs. Heilbronn was in trouble, she was alone with no family by her side. It was kindhearted passersby who called for emergency services. She lay cold and alone in a pool of blood. I couldn't even bring myself to look at the photos my men sent, it's so distressing.
'The reality is simply unimaginable.
'Reed's current health condition is precarious, and he couldn't handle such a shock.
'I know how much Reed dotes on his granddaughter-in-law and how eagerly he anticipates the arrival of his great-grandchildren.
'Now, Mrs. Heilbronn is still in critical condition, and the hospital is suddenly filled with formidable experts. The sight of this indicates how perilous her situation is, and the babies are likely lost, considering her situation. It would be fortunate if she manages to survive.'
Just a few days ago, they were celebrating Aurelia's pregnancy with twins. Now, the family was on the brink of collapse. Even Ted, the butler, felt suffocated by the news.
Reed was not the kind of man to be easily deceived.
He said, "My eyelids are twitching like crazy. I want you to tell me straight what's going on. Don't think you can hide it from me. If you don't come clean, I'll find out myself!"
Saying this, he started to get up and change clothes, determined to find out the truth.
Ted was almost in tears, and he said, "Mr. Heilbronn, your body can't take this. You must take care of yourself."
Reed's breathing became unstable with anger as he shouted, "Tell me the truth!"
Ted, cornered, had to reveal part of the truth, "Mr. Nathaniel Heilbronn and Mrs. Heilbronn got divorced. Mr. Reed Heilbronn, don't get upset. Let them handle their own affairs. At our age, we should live with peace of mind!"
Shaking with rage, Reed stumbled back to bed. He lay there with his eyes closed for a while before opening them and telling Ted, "Get that bastard over here. I want to know why he threw away his family. This family clearly doesn't have room for him anymore!"
Ted cautiously comforted him, "Don't worry. I've been trying to contact Nathaniel. His phone might be on silent. He'll call us back when he sees it."
Meanwhile, Nathaniel was being helped into a car by Zack. His hands were covered in blood, and he seemed completely disoriented, unresponsive to questions or any attempts to clean him up. It was as though he was in a daze.
Zack, who had seen it all after years of working for Nathaniel, was profoundly unsettled. He had witnessed his boss' commanding presence in the business world and had encountered many dark sides of society, but this was different.
Nathaniel's current state scared him deeply.
After understanding the situation, Zack found out that the ambulance carrying Aurelia had gone to Merry Hospital. So he drove there at full speed.
