Chapter 442 Not Biological Father and Daughter
Aurelia finished the interview and immediately returned to work. In the afternoon, she had a remote meeting with Imperick's company. Her day was fully packed.
After the meeting, she finally saw Nathaniel's message.
She stood by the window and looked across, but all she could see was a layer of glass. She remembered that not long ago, she could see him standing by the window making phone calls.
She didn't know when he had replaced the glass with one-way mirrors, but thinking about it now, he had ulterior motives.
Aurelia stood by the window for a few minutes, stretching her muscles after a busy day. The phone rang.
Aurelia answered, and Nathaniel's magnetic voice came through the phone.
"Aurelia, I see you."
"I was just standing here getting some sun, and you saw me. Do you have a telescope in your office or something?"
Nathaniel chuckled a few times.
"I think that would be a bit creepy. But if you're okay with it, I'll buy one and watch you when I'm bored."
Aurelia felt annoyed, thinking she had said something stupid, practically encouraging him to be creepy.
"Please don't, or I'll have to close the curtains."
"I wouldn't do that. I'm not that creepy. Aurelia?"
He suddenly called her name, and Aurelia didn't know what he wanted to say, so she just responded with a 'Hmm?'
"I saw the interview."
Aurelia replied nonchalantly, "Oh."
"So, when are you going to work with me?"
Aurelia laughed.
"Mr. Heilbronn, aren't you being a bit too eager? My brand just started advertising, and we haven't seen the results yet. As it stands, Karma Jewelry partnering with the Heilbronn Group is quite a stretch."
"You know very well who's stretching for whom here."
Aurelia said, "I don't know."
Nathaniel snorted lightly, "Alright, let's talk about it tonight. Any particular dish you want for dinner?"
"I'm on a diet."
Nathaniel's brow twitched.
"You're not even fat, what are you dieting for? You could do some stretching exercises instead. Come over tonight, and I'll guide you."
Aurelia's heart skipped a few beats, "You'll guide me for what?"
Nathaniel was momentarily stunned. He hadn't thought about it in a sexual way; he genuinely wanted to help her exercise. He had set up a gym at home with various equipment and thought they could work out together to build some muscle and get stronger.
Nathaniel laughed helplessly.
"Aurelia, what's in your head? Why are you always thinking about that?"
Aurelia was embarrassed and angry.
"What are you talking about? Who's always thinking about that?"
Nathaniel immediately conceded, "It's me..."
After hanging up, Nathaniel still had a smile on his face when Zack knocked and entered with a folder.
"Mr. Heilbronn, the results from the samples you sent for testing are back."
Nathaniel was momentarily stunned. He had sent Norman and Aurelia's hair samples for testing, and the timing was about right.
He took the envelope from Zack, carefully opened it, and pulled out the results. As he expected, Norman and Aurelia were not biologically related.
Norman didn't tell the truth.
Nathaniel carefully put the documents away, along with the hair sample from Burry that had been sent from overseas.
After work, Nathaniel went straight to Karma Jewelry to find Aurelia. When he appeared at her office door, she was tidying up her desk.
Having learned from past mistakes of losing her work, she now made sure to carefully organize and lock up her things before leaving each day.
Seeing Nathaniel, Aurelia teased, "Mr. Heilbronn, leaving work so early? Aren't you afraid your employees will all leave as soon as you step out?"
"I don't advocate for unnecessary overtime anyway, so they can do as they please."
He helped her take her bag from the coat rack, and they went downstairs together. In the car, Nathaniel sat in the driver's seat for a long time without starting the engine.
Aurelia had already fastened her seatbelt and turned to see him lost in thought. She noticed his heavy heart. "What's wrong?"
He had been in high spirits during their phone call in the afternoon.
Nathaniel hesitated, "Aurelia, there's something I need to tell you. Prepare yourself mentally."
Aurelia could tell from his expression that it wasn't a small matter. She asked cautiously, "What is it? Tell me."
"I recently sent Norman's and your hair samples for testing. The results are back. Take a look."
He handed her the envelope. Aurelia eagerly looked at the results, already having a suspicion in her heart.
She stared at the paper for a long time, unable to tell if she should be happy or sad. The man she had called "Dad" for so many years wasn't her father, and the man who had abandoned her in childhood wasn't biologically related to her. Everything now made sense.
"I'm not related to Norman?"
She sought confirmation from Nathaniel, needing to know she wasn't dreaming.
Nathaniel nodded.
"Aurelia, I couldn't get any truth out of Norman. He wouldn't say a word of truth. If you want to know the real story, you'll probably have to go back to Imperick."
Aurelia planned her upcoming work. "I can free up a day. Is one day enough?"
"Aurelia, don't rush. We can first go see Norman. He might know something."
Aurelia leaned back in her seat, lost in thought. If Norman wasn't her biological father, then the bigger question was, who was her real father?
Aurelia was certain her mother Brenda wouldn't have betrayed her marriage or wronged Norman. She had a lot of questions that needed answers.
Her mind was a mess.
Nathaniel held her hand on the console.
"Aurelia, set a date to go back to Imperick. I'll go with you."
Aurelia hesitated, then squeezed his hand back.
"I'll arrange my work and go back as soon as possible. You should prepare too."
Nathaniel said in a steady voice, "For me, you're always the top priority. Anytime you need me, I'm there. Also, the hair sample from Burry that the detective sent has arrived. We need to test it with yours. The results should be out in about half a month."
Aurelia looked up at him, feeling warm inside.
"Thank you, Nathaniel."
The way she said "Nathaniel" made his heart swell with sweetness.
Nathaniel's eyes darkened, and he placed a gentle kiss on her lips.
Then he fastened his seatbelt and drove out of the parking lot.
As they neared Nathaniel's neighborhood, Aurelia reminded him, "Did you let Gandpa know in advance? Otherwise, he might think there's a burglar when he comes back from his walk."
Nathaniel parked the car and held her hand as they went upstairs, first pressing the elevator button for Reed's floor.
"Grandpa might be home today."
When they reached the door, they knocked. Sure enough, Reed opened the door after a few knocks. Seeing Nathaniel, his expression was indifferent, but his eyes lit up when he saw Aurelia, and he smiled warmly.
