Chapter 221 Jacob Entered the Heilbronn Group Building

The car drove near the Heilbronn Group building, and Jacoba shouted, "Mr. Donovan, slow down a bit."

Kai had already slowed the car to the minimum speed, but the little guy still thought it was too fast.

"Slower!"

At that very moment, Nathaniel had an evening engagement to attend. Coincidentally, the company's elevator was undergoing maintenance that day, so he walked out of the building and waited outside for Zack to bring the car around.

Joe glanced outside the car unintentionally and happened to see Nathaniel, tall and long-legged, standing there, frequently checking his watch, looking like he was in a hurry.

He was startled and looked at the two kids. Dorothy was playing with her strawberry bear, and Jacob was focused on his smartwatch. Neither of the kids noticed the person outside the car, and Joe felt a sense of relief.

Joe thought it must be a coincidence. Two four-year-olds couldn't possibly have the cunning to direct the car to the Heilbronn Group building. Besides, no one at home had ever told them about their father, Nathaniel, and they knew nothing about him.

Whenever the two children inquired about their father, Aurelia would spin a tale, telling them that their dad had embarked on a journey to the moon to study magic. She assured them that he would only return once they had grown up.

In just a few seconds, a thin layer of sweat appeared on Joe's forehead. He instructed Kai, "Drive faster."

He glanced out the window again. Nathaniel was still standing there, gradually becoming a black dot in the distance. He couldn't allow any accidents to happen; he absolutely couldn't let the two kids meet that scumbag.

The car drove on, and Jacob had already drawn everything he wanted to remember on paper. His mission for the day was complete, and he didn't care where the car went next.

Jacoba said, "Uncle Joe, I want to set off fireworks."

Joe frowned, "Fireworks are banned in the city. Think of something else."

Dorothy offered, "Uncle Joe, can we go on the Ferris wheel? I want to take pictures of the night view to show Mommy. Seeing beautiful lights gives her more design inspiration."

Joe patted Dorothy's little pigtail. Girls were indeed more considerate. These two kids had opposite interests. Jacob liked tinkering with electronics, while Dorothy, just like her mom, loved collecting pretty stones, beads, and trinkets and drawing them on paper.

Joe said, "Alright, let's go on the Ferris wheel and video call Mommy, okay?"

The two kids clapped their hands in joy at the mention of a video call with their mom.

The following day, Joe had to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony and departed early in the morning, before the two children had awoken.

After Dorothy and Jacob got up, they started whispering and plotting to find their dad. Jacob had memorized the map, and the marks he made yesterday were now etched in his mind.

Dorothy was in charge of getting them out of the house.

Dahlia was in the kitchen preparing breakfast when Dorothy ran over, hugging her leg and shaking it. "Dahlia, I want to eat the little cake Uncle Joe bought last night."

Dahlia had already prepared a nutritious breakfast with vegetables, main courses, and balanced proteins. She usually made the kids' meals herself, as she was not only a nanny but also a nutritionist.

"Dorothy, I made your and your brother's favorite vegetable egg rolls and mixed grain porridge today. How about we eat at home?"

Dorothy pouted and shook her head. "No, I want to eat the little cake. I just want the little cake."

Dorothy clung to Dahlia, acting in a spoiled manner. Unable to resist her request, Dahlia contemplated how rarely Aurelia allowed the children to indulge in sweets at home. With this in mind, she made the decision to call Aurelia and inquire about the cake situation.

Aurelia answered the phone while stuck in traffic, "Dahlia, what's up?"

"Dorothy wants to eat the little cake and is a bit upset."

Aurelia sighed, "Let her have it this time, but remember not to give her too much cream. Her digestion isn't great, and too much will upset her stomach."

"Got it, just a little," Dahlia said, giving a thumbs-up to the little Dorothy clinging to her leg.

After hanging up, the two kids jumped up in joy. "Great! We can go eat the little cake!"

Dahlia packed a backpack with various tissues and the kids' water bottles. Just before leaving, she remembered, "Where are we going to buy the cake?"

In Coral Bay, the kids liked a cake from a downtown dessert shop, but now they were in Imperick, and she wasn't familiar with the area.

Jacoba, like a little adult, jumped in front of Dahlia and said, "Dahlia, I know. I remember the road Uncle Joe took us on yesterday."

Jacoba had a strong memory, which didn't surprise Dahlia, so she said, "Alright, you lead the way for me and Dorothy."

At this moment, Dahlia had no idea she was being schemed by two four-year-olds.

The three of them left the hotel and hailed a taxi. Jacob directly told the driver the name of the dessert shop.

Dahlia, unfamiliar with Imperick, had no idea that Jacob had directed the driver to a dessert shop located right under the Heilbronn Group building. These kids didn't want cake; they had another agenda.

The car stopped in front of the dessert shop. After getting out, Jacoba scrutinized the tall building.

He had found some news online from a few years ago, with photos of his mom and the president of the Heilbronn Group. The comments under those posts were all congratulating them on their marriage.

He guessed that this handsome man must be his dad. Otherwise, his fairy-like mom wouldn't take photos with a random man.

He didn't believe the story about the magic academy meant to fool kids.

He thought, 'Dad must have done something wrong to make Mom leave. '

He had to find out the truth; otherwise, his kindergarten classmates would keep teasing him and his sister for being born out of nowhere without a dad.

Dahlia, holding the hands of the two little ones, stepped into the dessert shop and placed an order for Dorothy's beloved strawberry cake and Jacoba's favored blueberry cake. The three of them settled into a cozy booth, ready to enjoy their sweet treats together.

Jacob's big eyes darted around, and he exchanged a glance with Dorothy. An idea popped into his head as he said, "Dahlia, I need to go to the bathroom."

"Alright, I'lll go with you."

Dahlia stood up, intending to accompany him to the bathroom. She looked back at Dorothy, who was sitting obediently, asking, "Dorothy, do you need to go too?"

Dorothy shook her head. "No, I don't need to go now."

Seeing that Dahlia was on board, Jacob quickly added, "Dahlia, you stay here with my sister. I can go by myself. I'm a big boy and don't need company to the bathroom."

Jacob acted like an adult, worried about his sister's safety alone.

Dahlia hesitated and asked, "Do you know where the bathroom is?"

She realized the question was unnecessary. Jacoba had an extraordinary memory and intelligence far beyond his age. In Coral Bay, he often moved around alone and was better at finding his way than adults.

"Come back right after you're done. The waitress will bring the cake soon," she reminded.

Jacoba nodded his little head. "I know, Dahlia."

Dahlia watched him walk towards the bathroom, unaware that as soon as Jacoba disappeared from her sight, he found another exit.

Leaving the dessert shop, he directly headed into the Heilbronn Group building.
