Chapter 393 The Surprising Appearance of Burry
Reed paused for a moment. "Maybe in the past, but I don't want to live with you young people. It's inconvenient."
Nathaniel silently felt rejected again.
"Grandpa, there's nothing inconvenient about it. I promise I won't make noise during your rest time, and there shouldn't be any other issues, right?"
Reed held the phone, a slight smile on his lips. The inconvenience he mentioned wasn't about himself; he was worried it would be inconvenient for the young couple.
His grandson had finally won back Aurelia, and young people needed space to be together. He didn't want to be the third wheel.
"I'm not going. If you buy a new house, I'll consider it."
Nathaniel rubbed his forehead. His grandpa was more rebellious than Jacob, throwing a little tantrum.
"Grandpa, how about you stay at my place first, and I'll move out?"
Reed resisted the huge temptation to hold his great-grandchildren and said stubbornly, "If you can move to Aurelia's place, then do it. If she doesn't take you in, forget it. I'll wait until you buy a house."
Nathaniel sighed inwardly. He wasn't capable of achieving that yet; the road to winning back Aurelia was still long.
"Alright, I'll buy a house first and then bring you over."
After hanging up, Nathaniel called his grandpa's old friend, Cassius, to ask if he had any extra houses to spare.
Cassius, hearing that it was for Reed, immediately had his butler bring out all the property deeds for inspection. The two old friends hadn't seen each other in over a decade.
"You're in luck. The apartment you bought from me, the one upstairs is also mine. Let your grandpa stay there. There's no need to distinguish between us."
Nathaniel insisted, "Mr. Wilson, please name a price. You've known my grandpa for a long time. If I don't buy it, he won't feel at ease and will scold me later."
Cassius shook his head and sighed, "Alright, Reed is a man of principles. Just pay the same price as the other one. Let me know when your grandpa arrives, and I'll pick him up. We old friends have a lot to catch up on."
"Alright, Mr. Wilson. I'll transfer the money to you now and come to Coral Bay in a few days to get the keys."
After hanging up, Nathaniel immediately transferred the money to Cassius. He planned to gradually move the core departments of the Heilbronn Group to Coral Bay and, of course, bring his grandpa along.
Fulfilling filial duties should be done sooner rather than later.
Nathaniel's office only had a few spare clothes. As he was getting ready to wash up and sleep, he couldn't find any pajamas in the closet. So, he went to bed shirtless.
Something on the bed was poking his back painfully. He got up to check and found something under the sheet.
Lifting the sheet, he found a Barbie doll's high heel.
The last time he used this bed was when Dorothy and Jacob followed him to the office. The kids had been jumping on the bed, and the assistant had changed the sheets but left the high heel behind.
Holding the high heel, his mind was filled with thoughts of the people in Coral Bay.
He had a bit of insomnia and only managed to fall asleep in the early hours.
The next day, Nathaniel was awakened by the ringing of his phone.
It was unusual for someone to call him so early. Groggily, he reached for his phone by the pillow and saw the name "Aurelia." Instantly, he was wide awake, no longer sleepy. He sat up in bed and answered the call.
Aurelia had gotten up early today. It was her first day back at work, and she expected a lot to do. She first retrieved her phone and computer from her grandmother.
Back in her room, she immediately called Nathaniel on video.
As soon as the call connected, she saw his bare abs on the screen. The blanket was draped over his waist, covering his lower body.
His muscles were just as defined as before, glistening enticingly in the morning light.
Aurelia couldn't help but swallow, feeling the hormones through the screen. "Where are you?"
Nathaniel raised his phone to show her the rest area. "You know it, my office."
"You didn't go home last night?"
Nathaniel felt aggrieved. "With you and the kids not there, it doesn't feel like home. I'd rather stay at the office; at least I have work to keep me company."
Aurelia smiled. He did sound quite pitiful.
"Why aren't you wearing clothes?"
Nathaniel had forgotten he didn't have pajamas. Seeing her video call, he had excitedly answered, forgetting he was shirtless.
Not only did he not avoid it, but he also deliberately lowered the camera a bit, speaking lazily, "I forgot to leave pajamas here, so I had nothing to wear."
Aurelia stared at the screen, her eyelids twitching. He seemed even leaner than before. Her gaze followed the defined abs down to the V-line.
Further down...
It was the blanket.
"Go put on some clothes." Aurelia didn't want to get too excited this early in the morning. A glance was enough, though she did want to look a bit longer.
Nathaniel raised an eyebrow. "No rush, I still have two hours before work. Sleeping at the office saves me commuting time."
With that, he reached for the water cup on the cabinet and drank it all in one go.
He felt refreshed, but Aurelia felt uncomfortable. She had been staring at his abs, and when the camera suddenly shifted, his handsome face came into view. Her gaze was drawn to his Adam's apple as he drank, and she was still in a daze when he finished.
Nathaniel chuckled softly. "Aurelia, I think you're blushing."
Aurelia patted her face, stubbornly saying, "It's the lighting."
"Really?"
His tone was teasing, clearly up to no good. Aurelia, a bit flustered, said, "I'm hanging up."
The video call was abruptly cut off.
Nathaniel regretted teasing her; now he couldn't even see her.
He sighed at his phone when an overseas call came in.
"Mr. Heilbronn, are you awake? I found something but I'm not sure. I'll send you the photos; please check them."
The caller was a private detective Nathaniel had hired to search for information about Burry. It had been a while.
Nathaniel opened Facebook and saw a series of seven or eight photos. He looked through them one by one, all back views, until the last one made him pause.
Though it was a blurry side profile, the resemblance to Aurelia was striking—the face shape, jawline, and nose curve all seemed identical.
From the bone structure, it looked like Aurelia.
He quickly exited Facebook and asked, "Where was this photo taken?"
"Mr. Heilbronn, it's a strange story. The man with this woman is a mob boss named Alex. I was following Alex for another case and accidentally photographed the woman beside him. She looked a lot like the person you asked me to find, so I sent it to you for verification."
"Have you done a facial recognition analysis?"
"Not yet. I'm still following Alex. The photos I sent were just taken."
Nathaniel couldn't describe his feelings. He had hired a private detective to investigate Burry, hoping to understand the woman who looked exactly like Aurelia. He hadn't expected to find her.
After all, what were the chances of surviving an avalanche?
Unexpectedly, they had stumbled upon something.
He immediately transferred some money to the detective. "Do the facial recognition analysis right now. Send me the results as soon as you have them."
Relying on eyesight alone wasn't enough; he needed a professional analysis.
