Chapter 369 Comforting Aurelia
Upstairs, Aurelia lay on the bed, zoning out.
She felt that Nathaniel wouldn't go that far; she had just been angry and said some harsh words.
Aurelia dialed Amber's number. "Amber, I need a favor."
Amber was still at Ulysses' house. She sighed. "Why are you being so polite? Just tell me what you need, and if I can do it, I won't refuse."
"I need to consult your husband about something."
After saying that, Aurelia added, "It's about Chelsea."
Amber glanced at the man who had just walked in. "He just came to pick me up. I'll hand the phone to him, and you can ask him directly."
"Thanks."
Aurelia calmed down, thinking it was better to hear a professional opinion on professional matters. Worrying alone wouldn't help.
She explained the situation in detail to Amber's husband, and his response was, "The penalty is indeed reasonable."
Aurelia hung up the phone and lay on the bed, gradually accepting the situation. The bedroom door was knocked, and the next second, Nathaniel pushed it open.
"Aurelia, do you want to get up and eat something?"
Aurelia was about to say she had no appetite, but Nathaniel had already walked in with several takeout bags.
He unpacked them, taking out the items one by one and placing them on the bedside table, which quickly became overloaded.
After unpacking the last bag, he took out a cup of milk tea.
Aurelia looked at the variety of cakes and couldn't help but swallow. What woman could resist desserts? Putting aside her worries about her figure, she could eat desserts as meals.
She glanced at the logo on the takeout bags Nathaniel had unpacked. It was from the most famous dessert store in Imperick, which had been on the news. She had craved it for a long time but never had the heart to buy it.
Nathaniel said calmly, "I didn't know which one you liked, so I just bought a few. Try them and tell me which one is good, so I can get it next time."
Aurelia thought to herself, 'Is this 'just a few'? He probably bought one of every kind from the store.'
Seeing her lying still, Nathaniel, following Dorothy's advice, picked up a box of strawberry cake and opened it. He looked down and saw Aurelia still staring at the pile of cakes, her eyes red with emotion.
He scooped a piece and brought it to her mouth, saying gently, "Open your mouth."
Aurelia hesitated for a moment, then opened her mouth and swallowed the spoonful he fed her. She then sat up on the bed. "I'll do it myself."
Nathaniel handed her the cake and spoon, holding onto the bed's edge and watching her eat. He was tall, and his entire upper body leaned down.
Aurelia moved over a bit. "Sit here."
Nathaniel felt greatly honored. She invited him to sit on her bed, and even if it was just sitting, he felt very satisfied.
He sat lightly on one side, watching her eat.
At that moment, he somewhat understood why Chris liked watching his girlfriend eat. Seeing her enjoy the food made him feel as if he were eating it himself, and the happiness didn't diminish.
When Aurelia had eaten about a third of the small cake, Nathaniel opened a box of mango-flavored cake for her. "Try another flavor."
Aurelia choked a bit, looking at his sincere face, and said slowly, "Let me finish this one first. It's not good to leave it unfinished."
Nathaniel directly handed her the mango-flavored cake and started opening other flavors. He wanted her to try them all. "If you finish that, you won't have room for the others."
Aurelia thought, 'Even if you have money, you shouldn't waste food like this. Eating just one bite of each and throwing the rest away?'
"Isn't that too wasteful?"
Nathaniel just smiled and didn't speak. He picked up the half-eaten box she had put down and scooped a piece into his mouth. He would finish what she left, so it wouldn't be wasted, and she could try various flavors without feeling guilty.
Aurelia couldn't help but feel touched. This was the second time since their reunion that he had eaten her leftovers. He was a germaphobe and hated sweets.
Aurelia's eyes reddened again. She sniffed, her voice thick with emotion. "Nathaniel, don't do this."
Nathaniel swallowed the cake, paused, and chuckled lightly. "Do what?"
After a few seconds, he asked, "Aurelia, have you ever thought that maybe this is just who I am?"
Aurelia sniffed a few more times, thinking carefully about what he said. Indeed, when they were together before, he would eat her leftovers.
Every time they ate at the Heilbronn Villa, the half bowl of food she couldn't finish would end up in his stomach.
Back then, she thought he did it out of respect for his grandfather. Now that she thought about it, with his temper, who could force him to eat if he didn't want to?
Aurelia's throat felt tight, and her eyes reddened even more.
Nathaniel threw the cake box into the takeout bag, opened the milk tea, and brought it to her mouth.
"Aurelia, eat whatever you want. It's your freedom. If you can't even have this bit of freedom in life, how can you be happy?"
Desserts indeed made people happy. Aurelia took the milk tea he handed her and drank a few big sips, her taste buds soothed. Why hadn't she realized this before?
She had always been afraid to eat this or that, worried about gaining a few extra pounds. If it went to the right places, fine, but if it went to her waist, she'd regret it.
At this moment, she suddenly felt relieved.
Let the weight come. Her body was her own; she didn't need to maintain it for anyone else.
Thinking this, Aurelia scooped a big bite of tiramisu into her mouth, feeling extremely satisfied with this dessert feast.
Seeing her mood improve, Nathaniel felt better too. "Aurelia, from now on, let's look forward, okay?"
Aurelia paused, continuing to eat her small cake.
Nathaniel added, "I can't make you forget the pain you've suffered, but I don't want to see you living in the shadow of the past. I want you to be happy, you and Jacob and Dorothy."
Nathaniel's words were sincere, without any fancy language, but his attitude was almost as if he were opening his heart to her.
After a long time, Aurelia responded, "I'll try."
She also wanted to leave the past behind and start a new life. But those memories were deeply ingrained, not easily erased.
Only she knew how much effort it took to remove Nathaniel from her life. Before she could completely rid herself of his shadow, he had re-entered her life.
Aurelia felt that she might never have a clear boundary with him in this lifetime. He was like air, omnipresent.
