Chapter 493 Hurry Up and Put It On
The Semona Villa.
Aurelia tucked her two kids in for the night and knocked on Cathy's door.
Cathy was still awake, using a steam mask to soothe her eyes. Her dry eye condition had been acting up again lately.
"Come in!"
Aurelia gently pushed the door open and stepped inside.
"Grandma, you're still up?"
Cathy was leaning against the headboard. She lifted her eye mask to glance at Aurelia before putting it back down.
"Almost asleep. Have you been busy with work lately? It's been a while since you've come to chat with me."
Aurelia sat on the edge of the bed and started updating Cathy on the company's recent progress, picking out the good news.
"Grandma, my latest ad campaign just hit the market, and it's getting great feedback. Next, I'm planning to set up a dedicated counter. Hopefully, it'll be a big success. What gift would you like? I'll spend my first earnings on you."
Cathy was in a good mood.
"I'm so lucky. Aurelia's company is about to make its first big profit. I don't want anything special. If you insist, just give me the best-selling jewelry from your brand."
Aurelia hugged Cathy's arm and playfully said,
"Grandma, if you want jewelry, that's easy. I'll design a custom set just for you, a one-of-a-kind, globally exclusive piece. Tell me what style you want, and I promise you'll love it."
Cathy was delighted and thought for a moment.
"What style do I want? I don't want to tire you out! Seeing you happy is worth more than any rare treasure. Don't overwork yourself. If you face any difficulties, ask Joe for help. You need to learn to use the resources around you. Joe is here to help you. If you're too shy to ask, I'll do it for you. He won't refuse."
"Grandma, don't worry. I'm not shy about asking Joe for help. But I do have something else I want to discuss with you."
Cathy removed her eye mask after enough time had passed.
"What's the matter? Why are you hesitating?"
Aurelia took a moment to gather her thoughts before speaking.
"Grandma, you know Reed, right? He's in Coral Bay now and has always admired how you ran your company when you were younger. He wants to visit you. Do you have time to meet him?"
Cathy's expression turned serious at the mention of Reed. She knew he was likely coming to speak on Nathaniel's behalf.
"Aurelia, is it Reed who wants to come, or is it Nathaniel?"
She had heard rumors from the staff about Nathaniel frequently picking up and dropping off Aurelia at work. The kids were also very close to him, calling him "Dad."
Thinking about the hardships Aurelia had endured made Cathy's heart ache. She hadn't yet avenged the near-death experience her child had suffered years ago.
"Aurelia, be honest with me. Have you not let go of Nathaniel? Do you want to give him another chance?"
Aurelia paused.
"Grandma, we've had many misunderstandings. He's not what he seems on the surface. I hope you can meet him."
Cathy sighed.
"I fear you'll follow in your mother's footsteps. I want you to find happiness. I won't stop the kids from being close to him; they need a father. But can't we consider other options? Look at the young men in Coral Bay. Many are better than he is. I hope you think carefully."
Aurelia lowered her head.
"Grandma, I still hope you'll meet him. He's changed a lot over the years."
Cathy was silent for a while before speaking.
"Fine, let them come tomorrow. I want to see if the man who caused you so much pain has three heads and six arms. If he has fangs, I'll pull them out. I haven't settled the score from four years ago."
Cathy's agreement to meet was a relief for Aurelia. If Cathy was willing to see Nathaniel, there was a chance to change her perception of him.
It was better than having no chance at all.
"Grandma, how about I invite them for dinner after work tomorrow?"
Cathy pulled the blanket up to cover herself.
"You handle the arrangements. Just remember, I won't let you be mistreated again. You have support. If anyone tries to hurt you, I won't tolerate it, whether they're male or female."
"Grandma, he's not a bad person."
"Alright, I'm going to sleep. We'll talk tomorrow."
"Grandma, make sure you're covered."
Aurelia helped turn off the lights and quietly left the room.
Back in her own room, she took a moment before calling Nathaniel. He had just finished showering and was wrapped in a towel when he answered the video call.
"Aurelia, is Dorothy asleep?"
Aurelia gave him a look.
"Why do you only ask about Dorothy and not Jacob? No favoritism allowed!"
Nathaniel smiled and explained,
"No favoritism. Jacob is more independent and usually sleeps on his own. Dorothy needs you to stay with her to fall asleep."
"Alright, I misunderstood you."
Aurelia composed herself.
"I just came from Grandma's room."
Nathaniel looked tense.
"What did she say?"
"Grandma said you can come for dinner tomorrow. But she has a very poor impression of you and might give you a hard time. Be prepared. I'll be there to help as much as I can."
Nathaniel relaxed a bit. Cathy agreeing to meet was an opportunity for him. He should be happy. As for any difficulties, he had expected them.
Considering how Aurelia had suffered in the past, facing her family was the least he could do. He should have apologized long ago, but the Semona Family's impression of him had never improved, delaying things until now.
"Aurelia, thank you. Did Grandma say anything about you?"
"No. She just hopes I'll think things through and not rush into decisions. She doesn't oppose you being close to the kids. She said she wouldn't deprive them of a father's love."
Nathaniel felt touched.
"Grandma is very understanding."
"Grandma is wonderful. It's just my mom's situation that makes her wary. She's afraid I'll end up with someone like Norman and waste my life."
Nathaniel hurried to reassure her.
"Aurelia, I'm not like Norman."
Aurelia chuckled softly.
"I know you're not like Norman. Otherwise, why would I still be involved with you?"
Nathaniel smiled knowingly and grabbed a towel to dry his hair.
Aurelia swallowed as she watched him on the screen. Fresh from the shower, his chest was still glistening with water droplets, exuding a strong, masculine aura.
"You're not completely naked, are you?"
Nathaniel paused and asked,
"Want to see?"
Aurelia shook her head vigorously.
"No."
"If you want to see, I have no secrets from you."
Aurelia's brow twitched.
"Just put something on."
Nathaniel chuckled, grabbed a robe from the bed, and put it on. His desire to bring her and the kids over grew even stronger.
