Chapter 173 Accident
The car in the accident was the one Aurelia had sold two days ago. She felt relieved it wasn't her and her unborn baby in the crash, but guilty another family suffered.
The accident was eerily similar to Brenda's, with the same "brake failure" explanation from the police. Aurelia couldn't believe it was just a coincidence.
As she calmed down, she remembered the intense looks Maria and Norman gave her in the hospital parking lot. She couldn't shake the feeling they were involved. To Aurelia, they were the prime suspects.
She felt overwhelmed. What kind of person was Norman? He likely had a hand in his first wife's death with his mistress Maria, abandoned his mother and daughter, and now, he seemed willing to harm his daughter for Chelsea's sake. How ruthless could someone be?
Aurelia sat on the floor, realizing she couldn't leave the house. She feared Norman and Maria might send someone to harm her. After a moment, she shook off her thoughts. The law wouldn't let them act so recklessly. She had no proof yet, but she was determined to bring Maria and Norman to justice.
She called the police. "Officer, I owned the car in the thirteen-car pile-up yesterday. I suspect foul play. Please investigate and find the truth for the victims."
Meanwhile, Chelsea was at Diamond Crest Estates, taken care of by Nathaniel's people, and could only talk to Norman and Maria over the phone. Watching the news, she saw a covered body being carried out of the car and felt ecstatic.
She no longer had to worry about Aurelia taking Nathaniel away or rushing their divorce. Nathaniel was finally hers, and only she deserved to be Mrs. Heilbronn.
She was so excited that she hadn't slept all night and had even had an extra bowl of food in the morning. When Maria called, Chelsea answered eagerly. "Mom, does this mean I'll never see Aurelia again?"
There was a long silence. Then Maria spoke, "Chelsea, the person in the car wasn't Aurelia. She sold the car the day before."
"What?" Chelsea felt like she'd been hit by something, stepping back in shock. She'd been excited all night, but when she found out Aurelia wasn't in the car, her hopes were crushed.
Why wasn't it that bitch?
She retreated to the bathroom, lowering her voice. "Mom, I want her dead. You must have a way, right?"
Maria tried to calm her down, "Chelsea, don't rush. Aurelia is smart, and we've already tipped her off. We can't act now."
Chelsea, covering her mouth, cried, "But I can't wait! In three days, the specialist Nathaniel hired will find out I'm cured. He won't feel pity or guilt anymore, and I'll lose my chance to marry him!"
Chelsea felt desperate, running out of time, and couldn't just sit around. She couldn't let Aurelia be comfortable while she suffered.
In the kitchen, the housekeeper sent by Nathaniel was making desserts.
Chelsea composed herself and put on a fake smile. "Hello, you look busy!"
The housekeeper turned around, smiling. "I'm baking cookies. I see you had a good breakfast. Mr. Heilbronn wants you to eat more for the baby's nutrition. Let me know what you like, and I'll make it."
Chelsea raised an eyebrow. "I'd like some fish. Can you make it for me?"
The housekeeper smiled. "Of course, Miss Thompson. Fish is good for the baby. I'll call Derek to buy some."
Chelsea quickly stopped her. "Derek is from the Heilbronn Villa. Reed doesn't like me and probably doesn't want his people to be at my beck and call. Why don't you go buy it?"
The housekeeper, brought in by Nathaniel from Heilbronn Villa, had been with the family for decades and almost watched Nathaniel grow up. Nathaniel trusted her to take care of his child. Seeing Chelsea so cautious while pregnant, she felt sorry for Chelsea.
Feeling softened, the housekeeper agreed. "Okay, I'll go. Wait here, and don't go anywhere."
There was a supermarket just across the street, a ten-minute walk away. The housekeeper took off her apron and changed her shoes, reminding Chelsea, "Miss Thompson, be careful while pregnant. If you want to go out, wait for me to come back and accompany you. Don't go out alone; it's better to be safe than sorry."
Nathaniel had specifically instructed the housekeeper not to let Chelsea go out alone, showing how much he cherished this child. The housekeeper took care of Chelsea diligently, fearing any oversight.
Chelsea smiled and reassured her. "Don't worry, I won't go anywhere."
As soon as the housekeeper left, Chelsea changed into outdoor clothes and called Maria. "Mom, I want Aurelia to suffer."
Aurelia spent the day at home feeling uneasy. She dared not go out, unsure of what awaited her outside, as there was still no response from the police.
In the evening, a phone call broke the silence in the house. Aurelia saw it was Timothy calling and answered quickly.
"Aurelia, something is wrong," Timothy said.
As soon as she heard his words, a chill ran down her spine. "What happened?"
"Stay calm. Don't panic," Timothy said. He knew it was serious and wanted to prepare her, fearing the news might be too much to handle. Such incidents were tough for most people, even for an outsider like him.
Even he found it hard to tolerate the heinous acts of that mother and daughter.
"I'm ready. Tell me," Aurelia said.
