Chapter 458 The Distance in the Middle of the Big Bed

Nathaniel's brow twitched. "Don't ask for trouble!"

"I'm serious. You can help me rent one, the kind that charges by the day. I'll fool my dad. We'll deal with everything once he's better."

Nathaniel thought, 'Don't drag me into your brainless schemes. Aurelia is watching!'

It sounded like he had a way to rent women.

Nathaniel glanced at Aurelia and replied, "I don't know about that. Ask someone else. If it doesn't work out, get the company's assistant to help."

Oscar seemed to understand something.

"It's getting late. You two should go rest. There are doctors here, and I'll stay and watch."

Aurelia asked, "Oscar, can you handle it alone?"

"I can, thank you."

After comforting Oscar for a while, Aurelia and Nathaniel went downstairs and got into the car. Nathaniel's phone rang again.

"Mr. Heilbronn, the doctor has been scheduled. When he heard the patient's last name was Moore, he said to bring the scans over first, and he'll fit him in."

"Great, send me Dr. Lopez's time."

After hanging up, Nathaniel forwarded the information to Oscar.

Aurelia, listening to Nathaniel's phone conversation, felt a sense of familiarity. "It seems like Ulysses' father is also a doctor. I wonder which department he's in."

"That's quite a coincidence."

Aurelia felt sorry for her friend. "Honestly, I've known Ulysses for so many years, and I've never seen him care about anyone like this. Oscar is the first."

Nathaniel started the car and drove onto the main road.

"This path is already difficult. They can ignore others' opinions, but they can't neglect their family. Arthur is not unreasonable; he'll come around, but it will take time. They still have a lot to endure."

Aurelia sighed. "I hope they succeed in the end. I'm just afraid they'll part ways unhappily. Right now, we only see the obstacles from Oscar's family. We don't know about Ulysses' family yet."

"Yeah, Aurelia, when are we going back to Coral Bay?"

Nathaniel was worried about leaving his grandfather alone in Coral Bay. He hadn't seen his kids for a few days and missed them.

Aurelia checked her work schedule on her phone. "The day after tomorrow. Tomorrow, I'll sign a contract with Patrick."

Mentioning Patrick made Nathaniel feel a bit jealous. "Can't your brother arrange for a woman to help you?"

Aurelia lightly pressed her red lips together.

"He trusts Patrick the most, so he sent him. It's not a great job, and it's good enough that someone is willing to take it. You can't be picky."

"Can I not be picky? Patrick's eyes are practically glued to you. You're my girlfriend!"

"Don't be ridiculous. How can he work if his eyes are on me? He's quite capable."

Nathaniel acknowledged Patrick's work ability but still disliked the guy.

"You're not working in the same office with him, are you?"

"No, I set up a separate office."

Nathaniel's expression relaxed a bit.

"That's good."

The car soon arrived back at the Bloom Villa.

At night, the two lay far apart on the big bed, neither of them asleep, neither daring to move closer.

Nathaniel had taken Matthew and Aurelia's hair for a DNA test that night, and the results would take about half a month.

He now felt it was impossible for them to have that kind of strange relationship, but he couldn't shake the bad feeling. Even with the person he loved most lying next to him, he had no thoughts, not daring to look at her even if she were naked.

A sense of guilt kept him from getting close to her.

Aurelia lay stiffly for a long time, knowing Nathaniel was awake, just like her, suffering from insomnia.

This trip to Imperick had solved one mystery but brought a bigger one.

The incident years ago happened at Oscar's family restaurant. She had asked Oscar about it, but surveillance footage from over twenty years ago was long gone, and the restaurant staff had changed several times. The manager from that time had left the restaurant years ago.

Finding out the truth from back then wasn't easy unless they found the people involved.

The closer she got to the truth, the more pressure Aurelia felt.

Investigating this matter was like peeling back layers, facing the darkness of human nature, with her beloved mother as the ultimate victim.

If she didn't investigate, she felt she was letting Brenda down. She wanted to seek justice for her.

If Brenda had been forced into a relationship back then, she would do everything to make the perpetrator pay, even if it was her own father.

"Nathaniel, why aren't you saying anything?"

Nathaniel, hearing Aurelia's voice, instinctively moved away.

"I... I'm thinking."

"Thinking about what?"

Aurelia propped herself up and looked at him in the moonlight.

Nathaniel didn't dare look at her, afraid he might do something to her.

"Nothing... nothing."

"Then why are you so far away?"

Aurelia wasn't used to his current behavior. He used to want to sleep as close as possible.

Nathaniel hesitated, not daring to speak.

Aurelia said, "Come here!"

"Huh?"

"Come closer!"

Nathaniel reluctantly moved a bit closer to the middle. Aurelia kept staring at him, so he moved a bit more until he was close enough and then she lay down.

Aurelia pulled his pillow over and placed it under his neck.

"Stay here and hold me while we sleep."

Nathaniel felt a bit troubled.

"Aurelia, maybe we should wait for the test results..."

Aurelia regretted asking him that question yesterday. He hadn't thought about it before, but now even holding her to sleep was an issue.

"Nathaniel?"

Aurelia propped herself up in his arms and looked into his eyes.

"I don't think there's anything between us. Look at me and your dad; do we look alike at all? People say girls resemble their fathers. Dorothy's nose, mouth, and face shape are just like yours. Don't scare yourself, okay?"

Nathaniel was silent for a moment, then slowly placed his hand on her waist.

"Aurelia, have you thought about what we'll do if it's the result we're afraid of?"

Just thinking about it made Nathaniel feel suffocated. It would be a disaster like the end of the world for him.

"If that's the case, you should worry about our two kids, not us!"

Nathaniel's mind went blank.

Children born from close relatives...

"Do you regularly take Dorothy and Jacob for check-ups?"

"They had tests at birth, no genetic issues. The kindergarten does regular check-ups. It's been a while since the last one."

Hearing that there were no genetic issues, Nathaniel temporarily breathed a sigh of relief, silently praying that it wouldn't be that bizarre.

"Aurelia, why aren't you afraid?"

Aurelia smiled lightly.

"I was scared when I first thought about it, but then I calmed down and analyzed it. I don't think there's any unresolved connection between me and the Heilbronn family. Do you know your dad's blood type?"

Can't win me back
