Chapter 492 Knew Nathaniel Couldn't Handle It
After finishing their handmade crafts, it was time for the kids to head to bed. Dorothy and Jacoba reluctantly waved goodbye to Nathaniel, clutching their newly completed projects as they followed Aurelia back to their room.
Nathaniel drove back to his neighborhood and made a quick stop at Reed's place. Reed was still awake, soaking his feet, while Marcus was engrossed in the news on his tablet.
Seeing Nathaniel walk in, Marcus immediately put down the tablet.
"Nathaniel, any updates from Burry?"
Nathaniel took off his shoes as Marcus anxiously approached him, having stayed up just to hear any news from Nathaniel.
"Nathaniel, what's the situation?"
"The people watching her reported that she tried to escape a few days ago but was caught and brought back. Her health isn't great right now. When Joe returns in three days, we need to plan how to bring Burry back to the States for treatment."
Marcus was extremely worried. The thought of the person he cared about being held captive while he could do nothing was unbearable. Hearing this news made his heart ache.
He coughed a few times, taking deep breaths as he paced the floor.
"Nathaniel, maybe I should book a flight and go there now. What if something happens to her again? I..."
"Marcus, calm down. That person doesn't mean her any harm and is even helping to find a match for her globally. Burry isn't in immediate danger. The urgent issue is her health. Aurelia and I discussed it, and we think bringing her back here for a match with Aurelia would be more effective than searching blindly."
Marcus couldn't stay calm.
"But she... she won't just let herself be locked up. Can her body hold out until we rescue her?"
Reed, soaking his feet, watched Marcus pace anxiously, making him dizzy.
"Marcus, sit down and talk. Stop pacing. Nathaniel knows what he's doing, so trust him. Joe won't let Burry suffer overseas either. They'll find a way. You need to take care of your health. Do you want Burry to come back and find you in the hospital?"
Marcus, hit where it hurt, tried to calm down and sat on the couch.
"But Dad, how can I stay calm? I can't just sit here and do nothing. She's my wife. I have to do something for her."
Nathaniel handed Reed a towel for his feet.
"Marcus, this situation is complicated. That person has significant power, more than we can handle. We need to plan carefully, possibly involving the police to take him down completely. Otherwise, even if we bring Burry back, we won't have peace."
Reed agreed with Nathaniel.
"Nathaniel's right. Dealing with someone like that means our lives won't be peaceful. This is beyond what we can handle alone. We can't act rashly."
Reed finished drying his feet and put the towel down.
"Hand over your passport. I'll keep it for now."
Reed didn't trust Marcus not to secretly fly to Elvenia to find Burry, worried about his health and the risk of alerting the drug lord.
Marcus, whose plan had been guessed, had indeed intended to sneak away while Reed was out exercising.
Caught, he sighed.
"Dad..."
"No arguments. Hand it over now."
Reluctantly, Marcus opened his wallet and handed his documents to Reed.
"Dad, give it back soon."
"When Nathaniel has news, you'll get it back. I don't need your documents. Focus on getting better. No more incidents."
Reed, at his age, couldn't handle much stress. Marcus had recently become his biggest worry, and he needed to keep him in check.
With Marcus settled, Reed remembered another concern.
"Nathaniel, what's going on with you and Aurelia? A family should live together. This separation isn't good. How are things with Aurelia's family?"
Reed's words echoed Nathaniel's thoughts. He wanted nothing more than to have his family together, dreaming of bringing Aurelia and the kids home.
But it seemed too soon.
The Semona Family still had strong opinions about him. Just having a peaceful meal together was an achievement. For now, he needed to visit and show his sincerity.
"Grandpa, if you have time, could you come with me to visit the Semona Family? Just as friends."
He worried Reed might assume they were already a family, which would be too forward given the current situation. Visiting as friends seemed more appropriate, and he hoped Reed's presence would secure a meeting.
Reed snorted.
"I knew you couldn't handle it. Didn't I put enough effort into raising you? You're good at business, but clueless about relationships. How did you let things get this bad?"
Nathaniel felt a headache coming on. Reed always brought up the past, blaming him for his mistakes. After that incident, Nathaniel realized his emotional intelligence was lacking.
Since finding Aurelia, he had followed Zack's advice, watching shows and reading magazines that women liked, and even secretly following relationship media online to improve his emotional intelligence.
"Grandpa, please..."
Reed was exasperated. Neither of the men in the family gave him any peace of mind.
"Find out what Aurelia's family likes. We can't go empty-handed. We need to bring proper gifts."
Reed sighed internally. At his age, he still had to humble himself for his grandson. Nathaniel's mistakes were beyond his ability to fix alone.
But if it meant bringing Aurelia and the kids back, he'd endure the embarrassment.
The Semona Family was well-known. Reed had met Cathy Semona years ago, a sharp and formidable woman. He didn't expect an easy time with her.
But no matter how difficult, he had to try for Nathaniel's happiness.
