Chapter 47 The Police Arrive
Nathaniel was just making casual conversation and couldn't understand her reaction.
"I've seen the short videos she made. What's the matter?"
After registering, Zack promptly sent the video filmed by the influence yoga instructor from the yoga studio to his phone; it was hard to resist watching.
Aurelia was still nervous, stuttering, "Do you know her?"
Thinking Aurelia was jealous again, Nathaniel replied, "What's always on your mind? Am I the kind of person who has to know every woman I see?"
Hearing this, Aurelia felt relieved.
"Good, you don't know her," she muttered, but Nathaniel heard every word.
"Aurelia, I'm very selective. Not just any woman can catch my eye."
His thumb brushed over Aurelia's beautiful blue eyes, and her long eyelashes trembled at his touch, sending a ticklish feeling through his body.
"Aurelia, you can only be mine. Even after a divorce, you can't be with anyone else. If I find you entangled with another man, I won't let you off."
Jealous of her eagerness to divorce and her relentless search for a man, he was consumed by envy.
Aurelia couldn't help but laugh at his overbearing attitude.
"If you don't want me, why can't I seek my happiness? Do I have to be a widow for the rest of my life because of you?"
"Then we won't divorce."
He rudely took Aurelia's hand and stuffed a cold black card into her palm.
Aurelia recognized it as the legendary unlimited black card, the ultimate honor in the world of the rich.
This time, she didn't return his supplementary card as she did last time; instead, she tightly held onto the card.
"Can I spend it freely?" she asked.
Nathaniel chuckled, "It's yours, so naturally, I'm not afraid of you using it."
Aurelia sneered, realizing that he had reneged on their agreement to divorce at the last moment. If Nathaniel wanted to play hardball, she wouldn't be polite either. "Can I buy anything I want?"
"Whatever you like."
Aurelia put the card away, thinking to herself, 'Don't regret it later.'
The atmosphere in the dressing room was more relaxed than before. Both of them had calmed down, at least on the surface.
Aurelia noticed that his gaze, when looking at her, had changed again, exuding a dangerous aura.
"Why don't you go take a shower?" she said, pushing against his chest. Nathaniel took a step back, staring blankly at her small hand on his chest.
The words sounded ambiguous, like some code.
Nathaniel's heart raced as he grabbed a towel and left the dressing room.
Aurelia leaned against the wall, listening to the sound of running water from the bathroom. She breathed a sigh of relief and took out the clothes she had just put away, then ran back to the guest room.
The door was locked.
Aurelia tossed and turned on the bed, unable to sleep.
Nathaniel had completely disrupted her plan, and now she had to find a way to get him to agree to a divorce as soon as possible.
Her belly was getting bigger, and she couldn't hide it for much longer.
With a discerning eye, one might notice that her waistline has expanded slightly compared to usual.
She didn't have much time.
Unable to sleep, she opened her phone and logged into her own Instagram account, which she had always treated as a confidant.
Her Instagram account contained the pregnancy diary she had written, documenting the baby's changes every week and recording the joy of being a mother.
Only by looking at it could she temporarily forget her troubles.
The next day, after finishing her work, Aurelia saw a crowd of people gathered around the office, with several police officers in uniform. The whole office was in an uproar, and she didn't know what had happened.
Amy saw Aurelia approaching and pointed in her direction, saying to the police, "That's the woman, and she dares to come back!"
Aurelia had a bad feeling, and it turned out that the trouble was directed at her.
Chelsea sat in her chair with her eyes all red.
"Officer, that necklace is my mother's heirloom. I never thought it would be lost in the office. The employees of the Heilbronn Group are not so unprofessional. Please, as long as you help me get the necklace back, I'll do anything."
After speaking, Chelsea burst into tears, her shoulders trembling, crying miserably.
The police tried to comfort her. The office surveillance had already been checked, and it clearly showed that only Aurelia had returned to the office the night before last. The surveillance footage clearly captured her opening Chelsea's drawer and taking out a jewelry box.
The evidence was conclusive. "Miss, your name is Aurelia, right? Please come with us."
A crowd of onlookers gathered around, each with a hostile look at Aurelia.
Someone whispered, "She's pretty, but I can't believe she has sticky fingers. She actually dares to steal. You can't judge a book by its cover."
"How can Aurelia bite the hand that feeds her? Ms. Thompson has been so nice to her. It's not the theft itself that's the problem. It's the constant worry about it. She must have seen something in Ms. Thompson's drawer and took advantage of the fact that we were all away to sneak back and take it. Unfortunately, she didn't expect there to be surveillance."
"Aurelia must have some difficulties at home. The last time when I was recording information, I saw in her file that she was married, but she didn't even have a ring in her hand. She must have married a poor man."
"It's a pity. Aurelia's salary is low, and her husband only has a little money. After this, she definitely won't be able to stay at the Heilbronn Group."
Aurelia finally understood the saying that a lie repeated often enough becomes the truth.
The blabbermouths in the office could turn fake stories into reality.
Everyone was waiting to see the excitement. Chelsea wiped her tears and fanned the flames. "I'm sorry to my mother. She wore that necklace for fifty years. Now it's lost in my hands."
Amy usually loves to suck up to Chelsea, so she immediately handed her a tissue to comfort her. "Ms. Thompson, don't worry. The police won't let a bad person go. They will definitely help you find the family heirloom."
At this point, the police wanted to take Aurelia to a quiet place for questioning. Aurelia remained calm in the face of these harsh words.
"Officer, let's just do the questioning here so that everyone can hear. I will admit to what I have done."
The police looked at the poor victim in the seat and sighed softly. "Alright, let's do it here. Miss, did you return to the office between 8 and 9 p.m. the day before yesterday?"
"Yes."
"Did you go through Chelsea's drawer?"
"Yes."
"So you admit that you stole the heirloom from Chelsea's drawer, which is the necklace?"
Dozens of people in the office instantly fell silent, waiting for the answer. This kind of scandal might even make the news. After all, the Heilbronn Group was not an ordinary company.
In this age of the internet, even having a salad in the office could be filmed and criticized, let alone such a despicable act of theft.
Who would dare to leave things in the office in the future?
Aurelia's career was over here. Everyone was waiting for her answer.
