Chapter 275 Meaningless
On the flip side, Nathaniel kept replaying the voice message Aurelia had sent. No matter how many times he listened, he could hear a guy's voice talking to Aurelia, sweetly calling her name and mentioning Imperick.
Nathaniel felt a knot in his stomach. Another man, besides Caleb, was hanging around her. They seemed to be traveling together, and with what Aurelia had hinted at, a thought hit him, 'Could Aurelia have gone back to Imperick?'
With that thought, he immediately called Zack in.
"Do you have the number for Mrs. Heilbronn's assistant?" he asked.
Zack thought his boss was gearing up to head back to Coral Bay. He was hoping to go back soon too, since he had left his wife alone in a hotel there, which made him uneasy. Zack said, "Mr. Heilbronn, yes! If you're worried about Mrs. Heilbronn, we can fly back tomorrow. With her stunning looks, she surely has many admirers. You can't afford to let your guard down!"
Those words hit Nathaniel hard. Those despicable men!
"Call Aurora and say I ordered an ice cream cake for Anna and ask what time would be convenient for delivery."
Zack immediately pulled out his phone and dialed. The result was just as Nathaniel had expected: Aurelia had gone back to Imperick.
Nathaniel didn't know why she had gone back to Imperick, but he had a gut feeling it was to handle something important. This thought made him restless.
He asked Zack for the car keys, hurriedly left, and left a bewildered Zack standing there.
Nathaniel thought it over. The only place Aurelia could go in Imperick was the villa her mother had left behind. He drove straight there.
As night fell, the villa was shrouded in darkness, showing no signs of life.
He parked the car under a sycamore tree outside the villa, hesitating whether to call her. He wanted to be by her side at all times, but he was afraid of scaring her away.
While he was thinking, a white car pulled up at the gate.
Aurelia unbuckled her seatbelt, got out, waved to the person in the car, and watched them leave before looking for her keys to open the door.
Nathaniel recognized it was Ulysses'.
He got out of his car and said, "Aurelia."
Aurelia, who had been rummaging through her bag for the keys, stopped when she heard Nathaniel's voice. She turned around and saw the luxury car hidden in the darkness under the sycamore tree.
Nathaniel, dressed in a light gray suit, got out of the car, walking with an air of elegance and nobility.
Aurelia asked, "What are you doing here?"
Nathaniel didn't answer but asked, "Why did you suddenly come back? Did something happen?"
Aurelia knew Nathaniel was concerned about her, but this matter involved Chelsea, and she didn't want him to know. Maybe the past had left a significant shadow, making her subconsciously feel he would absolutely side with Chelsea against her.
She shook her head and said, "It's nothing. I just came back to go through my mother's belongings."
"Alright, if you need any help, just call me anytime. If I can't make it, I can send a couple of people to assist you," he said.
Aurelia said, "I'll just sort through the things first and take the important stuff back to Coral Bay. I shouldn't need any help."
"Whatever you can't take, I'll help you with. We'll go back to Coral Bay together in a few days," he said.
Aurelia remained silent.
She had casually made up a lie, and Nathaniel believed it without question.
Seeing Nathaniel's sincere face, Aurelia felt a bit guilty. How did she not realize before that he was so gullible, believing even such a simple lie?
Aurelia said, "It's getting late. You should go back. It's not convenient for me to invite you in."
Nathaniel hesitated, then said, "I'll watch you go in."
The memory of her last kidnapping was still fresh in his mind. He needed to make sure she was safely inside and had locked the door before he could relax.
Aurelia didn't respond, still rummaging through her bag for the keys. The more she panicked, the harder it was to find them. Finally, she squatted down and dumped everything out of her bag, turning it inside out.
She wanted to slap herself. She remembered putting the keys in her bag before leaving, but they weren't there. She probably hadn't put them in at all.
Nathaniel stood quietly, watching her, noticing her embarrassment.
"Aurelia, how about go back to the Bloom Villa?" he asked.
Aurelia, still squatting on the ground, paused and started picking up her things one by one.
"No need," she said.
The Bloom Villa—just hearing the name made her heart ache.
That place was somewhere she probably wouldn't have the courage to step into for the rest of her life.
Aurelia picked up her bag, found a stick on the ground, and dug out a small box from the corner of the wall.
Nathaniel watched her quietly as she took a key from the box like performing a magic trick and entered the yard, where there was a keypad lock.
"Aurelia!" He was getting anxious and called out, saying, "Do you want to talk for a bit? I bought your favorite milk tea."
Nathaniel opened the car door, took out a cup of milk tea, still warm, and handed it to her.
Aurelia was suddenly handed something. When their skin touched, she instinctively pulled back.
This subconscious action made Nathaniel's heart ache. She was now so guarded against him, and the fact that it was an unconscious reaction made it even more painful.
Maybe in her subconscious mind, he was someone dangerous, someone she shouldn't be in contact with.
"Aurelia, I'm not dirty." Nathaniel, with reddened eyes, wanted to prove himself to her. He took out his phone and played a recording for her.
The familiar male voice made Aurelia tense up, unpleasant memories flooding her mind. It was the voice of the man who had kidnapped her a few days ago, nearly costing her her life.
Nathaniel explained, "You never touched Chelsea. That night, she got you drunk."
Aurelia listened to the recording and smiled bitterly. She knew about Chelsea's affairs with other men but didn't know Nathaniel had never touched Chelsea. It was all orchestrated by that woman.
Aurelia shouted, "What's the point of telling me this now? Can time travel to the past? That car accident didn't make me lose my memory. Are you disappointed?"
Nathaniel's lips trembled, and his voice choked.
"Aurelia, you know that's not what I meant."
Aurelia composed herself. "Sorry, I got a bit emotional just now. What I meant is that my disappointment accumulates bit by bit. It's never just one thing that suddenly changes my heart. We've been through a lot together. I won't deny that I used to care a lot about that matter, but there's no need to revisit the past. Talking about it is meaningless and will only make us uncomfortable."
Nathaniel's dry throat moved, a bitter taste spreading in his mouth. Learning that he hadn't touched Chelsea had made him as happy as a fool. He had come to her full of hope, playing the recording for her, hoping to salvage his image, only to be met with her cold response.
Nathaniel's voice was frighteningly low.
"I understand," he said.
He didn't feel wronged at all, only filled with endless regret.
He didn't dare hope for immediate forgiveness. He could only patiently rebuild the trust she had lost in him, bit by bit.
