Chapter 306 Attracting Women's Attention
A woman's sharp intuition made Aurelia sense hostility from Lori.
Aurelia pondered for a while, could it be that Lori had her eyes on Caleb, and seeing me as Caleb's date today made her jealous?
Caleb was a man of integrity, with above-average looks, and the owner of one of the top three media companies in the country. He was considered one of the best marriage prospects by socialites and it was understandable that his female artists would like him.
Aurelia curled her lips and said,
"Indeed, good men are becoming increasingly rare nowadays. I wish Miss Lori success."
Lori pursed her lips and smiled meaningfully,
"Then I'll take Ms. Semona's good wishes and try to win him over tonight!"
Caleb teased from the side, saying,
"Stop bragging. Where's your date? Did he even agree to come with you?"
"Mr. Sinclair, don't mock me. Would I say something if I wasn't sure? He went to the restroom and will be back soon. I'll introduce him to you all when he returns."
Caleb took a sip of red wine.
"Then we'll wait and see. I'm curious to see who has caught the eye of our big star."
As he said this, music started playing in the hall, and the ball began.
People gradually entered the dance floor and started waltzing. Caleb's eyes fell in that direction. After a moment, he downed half a glass of red wine in one gulp and asked with a slight smile,
"Do you want to dance with me?"
Aurelia had learned dance for a few years as a child, but after Brenda's accident, Norman had forbidden her from continuing, and she hadn't danced since.
She had a foundation in dance, so she could handle this social dance.
Aurelia smiled without modesty,
"Then let's just have a simple dance."
Caleb was particularly gentlemanly today, probably because Aurelia was his date, and he took extra care of her.
The two walked into the dance floor, and soon the crowd automatically made space for them in the center. Aurelia, in high heels, danced gracefully with Caleb, their coordination so seamless it seemed rehearsed.
Soon, onlookers gathered around, whispering,
"Which celebrity is this girl? I've never seen her before."
"I don't know, probably an artist under Sinclair Media. To be able to dance with Mr. Sinclair, she must have a close relationship with him. Just wait, she'll be famous soon."
"With that delicate face, even without Mr. Sinclair's connection, it's only a matter of time before she becomes famous."
"She is indeed beautiful. I think her face is more delicate than Lori's."
"It seems her eyes are more captivating than Lori's, full of allure."
Lori, watching coldly from the side, sat on a high stool, gently swirling a glass of red wine. She heard all the discussions but didn't take them to heart.
The men Lori set her sights on were unattainable for other women.
In the dance floor, Aurelia and Caleb chatted as they danced, unaware that they had become the center of attention. The audience speculated wildly about their relationship, coming up with various versions.
Rumors even spread that Aurelia was a trainee from The Sinclair Family, using her looks to win over Caleb.
As the music ended, Caleb asked,
"Do you want to keep dancing or take a break?"
Aurelia's feet were a bit tired and said,
"Let's take a break, I can't dance anymore."
Just as they were about to leave, Lori, in a red dress, squeezed through the crowd, saying,
"Mr. Sinclair, Ms. Semona, don't leave yet. My date is here, let's dance together."
Lori's eyes had a hint of provocation.
Aurelia thought to herself, 'It's just a social dance, not a competition. What's the point of competing in this?'
"Then let's dance!"
Aurelia wasn't afraid of trouble. She had seen plenty of women who were more jealous than she was.
Lori proudly picked up her phone and dialed. Within seconds, the call connected, and Lori's demeanor changed to that of a coy little girl,
"Mr. Heilbronn, why did it take you so long in the restroom? Do you need me to bring you some paper?"
Just as she finished speaking, a voice from the back of the crowd said, "I'm here."
Everyone turned to make way, and Nathaniel, in a high-end suit, stood at the back.
The scene suddenly quieted down, with only the music playing.
Aurelia never expected that the quality man Lori mentioned was Nathaniel. She smiled inwardly, clearly, Lori had done her homework and knew all about her relationship with Nathaniel.
No wonder the hostility was obvious.
Nathaniel didn't respond to Lori but stared straight at Aurelia.
After a few seconds of silence, he strode through the crowd and said,
"Aurelia, you're here too. Ride with me later."
Caleb stepped forward to block him, saying,
"No need to trouble Mr. Heilbronn. Aurelia is my date today, and I'll make sure she gets home safely."
Lori pouted in dissatisfaction and said angrily,
"Mr. Heilbronn, I went through so much to get you here. What's going on? You haven't said a word to me and are fixated on someone else's date. Is your date not attractive enough?"
Nathaniel's gaze still went past Caleb to look at Aurelia and said,
"Aurelia, do you want to dance with me?"
Lori stomped her foot in anger, saying,
"Mr. Heilbronn!"
Nathaniel was getting impatient and said,
"Lori, dance with your boss. Build a good relationship with him so he can promote you. Don't you want to be famous?"
"Can't you promote me?"
Nathaniel coldly replied,
"I'm in the jewelry business. How can I promote you? Are you a piece of jewelry?"
Lori's lips trembled with anger. She was the national goddess, and people lined up to dance with her, yet she was humiliated in public.
She felt aggrieved.
Aurelia, standing behind Caleb, wanted to laugh. Nathaniel, this jerk, never had a kind word to say. He used to treat her like this, and she had gotten used to it. Now, seeing another woman driven mad by him, she felt a strange sense of calm.
After asking Aurelia and not getting a response, Nathaniel, thick-skinned as ever, walked around Caleb to stand beside Aurelia,
"Aurelia, if we don't start, the music will end."
Without waiting for Aurelia's response, he extended his hand.
Aurelia rolled her eyes at him, this jerk, always seeking women's attention.
Seeing her reluctance, Nathaniel leaned in closer, saying,
"Aurelia, so many people are watching. Can you cut me some slack?"
Aurelia finally placed her hand in his, and they moved to the center of the dance floor, dancing to the music,
"Mr. Heilbronn, you really have a lot of women around you."
Nathaniel was puzzled for a second before realizing she was talking about Lori. To make sure she heard him, he leaned in and explained,
"Would you believe me if I said I was tricked into coming?"
Aurelia bluntly replied,
"No."
"Aurelia, do you still believe anything I say?"
Aurelia retorted,
"What do you think?"
Even with his thick skin, Nathaniel understood the meaning behind Aurelia's words. Without her saying it outright, he guessed that he had completely lost her trust four years ago.
Nathaniel said, "Aurelia, what do I have to do for you to trust me again?"
"We have no chance, Mr. Heilbronn. A quality man like you can find any woman. Why hang yourself on my tree? Besides, last time at the restaurant, Beatrice warned me to stop entangling with you. She said the Heilbronn family's doors would never open for me.
Why don't you go back and explain that I'm not the one clinging to you, it's you who won't let go of me?"
