Chapter 457 Can You Help Me Find a Woman?
Oscar had a smooth life, never encountering any major issues. The doctor's words hit him hard, and he couldn't process them for a long time.
"Mom, hasn't Dad always been in good health? How did he suddenly..."
Magnolia's eyes were swollen from crying.
"He mentioned feeling dizzy a few times recently, said he would go for a check-up but never did. He's been too busy with work lately. Today, he suddenly fainted at the office. His assistant called for an ambulance and sent him straight to the hospital. By the time I got the call, he was already being examined."
Oscar's face turned pale. If Arthur fell, the family would rely on him. He had been carefree and idle for over twenty years, and now he was suddenly expected to take on such a big responsibility. He felt helpless.
Arthur had long asked him to familiarize himself with the company's business to make it easier, but he had always been lazy, only caring about enjoying life.
Oscar tried to calm himself down. If he panicked, Magnolia and Linda would be even more lost.
"Mom, let's get him admitted first. I'll find a specialist to ask about the severity of this illness."
Magnolia was so scared she felt weak all over. Something growing in the brain couldn't be minor, right? Now, they could only pray that the thing in Arthur's brain was benign, not malignant, or the family would fall apart.
Oscar matured a lot in a short time. He quickly went downstairs and completed the admission procedures.
Arthur was moved to a regular ward, with an IV drip in his arm. When the drip was halfway through, he slowly woke up. The first person he saw was his good-for-nothing son, and his eyes then shifted to a pretty girl.
Arthur smiled and asked Oscar, "Is she your girlfriend?"
Oscar scratched his head, "Dad, are you confused? This is Aurelia, Nathaniel's girlfriend."
The light in Arthur's eyes dimmed, and he didn't want to talk, "Leave, I don't need you here."
Magnolia sobbed, "Don't say such things."
Arthur closed his eyes, not wanting to talk, "Stop talking, I have a heartache!"
At this point, he still wouldn't admit he had a physical problem. He firmly believed the family just needed a daughter-in-law. As long as that good-for-nothing Oscar could bring a girl home, all his ailments would be cured.
Magnolia said, "You're in this state, stop being angry with your son. Can't we just live happily as a family?"
Arthur got emotional again, "Don't I want that? At my age, who doesn't want to set up a family business for their children, get them married, and have grandchildren? I dream of holding a grandchild!"
Arthur's eyes then fell on Nathaniel standing on the floor, and he angrily said, "Matthew doesn't have to worry about anything. His son runs the entire group and he has two grandchildren!"
"Do you think my demands are high? Just a girl, as long as he brings a girl home, I don't care about her family background, looks, or education. Is that too much to ask?"
Arthur felt dizzy again, and no one dared to respond. If he got more upset, it would be too late for regrets.
Magnolia, scared, pressed the nurse call button. Nothing more could go wrong. "Oscar, stop upsetting your dad. I'm begging you, make him happy!"
Linda also cried by the bedside, "Dad, stop talking. You can't have anything happen to you, please!"
Oscar was lost for a while. Magnolia and Linda's cries made his mind a mess. He knew he couldn't continue being idle; the family needed him now.
"A girl, a girl..." He muttered a few times, not even knowing what he was saying.
The doctor came in after hearing the call, checked on Arthur again, and then asked everyone to leave.
"The patient needs rest and should avoid emotional agitation. You should wait outside, only one family member needs to stay. Too many people aren't good for the air quality."
Everyone left the ward. Oscar held the scan of Arthur's head that the doctor had given him, looking dazed and helpless.
Ulysses, seeing the situation, quietly left the group and called his father in the empty hallway, "Dad, when can you help me look at a scan? It's a friend's father."
"You only call me when you need something. What friend?"
"Just a regular friend's father. He suddenly fainted today, and there's something in his brain. The doctors here suggest surgery as soon as possible."
"Bring the scan over. It's hard to explain over the phone."
"Okay, Dad, I'll come over tonight. Please wait up for me."
"Alright, be safe on the road."
Ulysses' father was a renowned neurosurgeon, and his surgeries were hard to schedule.
After the call, Ulysses returned to find Magnolia and Linda had been taken home by the driver, leaving Oscar alone on the bench, looking helpless.
Nathaniel and Aurelia stood by him, showing the importance of friends at such times.
Nathaniel tried to come up with solutions.
"Oscar, you need to hold on. If you have any questions about the company, just ask me. Arthur's condition might not be accurately diagnosed by just one hospital. I'll contact a few more specialists. Don't worry, there's always a solution."
Oscar, with red eyes, looked up just in time to see Ulysses approaching, "Ulysses, I won't be going back with you for now."
Ulysses understood his feelings, "I'll pack your things."
"And don't contact me for now."
Ulysses was stunned, taking a deep breath, "What do you mean?"
Oscar repeated, "Just don't contact me. My dad... I don't want to anger him to death."
Ulysses' eyes dimmed. "Okay."
With that, there was nothing more to say. He turned to the elevator without looking back.
Nathaniel took a couple of calls, all saying the doctors he contacted were too busy to fit them in, even with money.
For the first time, he felt the powerlessness of money. "Oscar, don't worry, I'll think of something."
Nathaniel called his friends abroad. The foreign specialists had time but could only come in three days.
Oscar, with red eyes, asked after a long time, "Nathaniel, can you help me find a woman right now?"
