Chapter 338 You Don't Deserve to Have It
The police only allowed fifteen minutes for the call. Aurelia and he stared at each other through the glass for a long time before picking up the phone and putting it to their ears.
Norman was crying uncontrollably and took a while to calm down.
This time, the lawyer Aurelia hired handed over evidence of his embezzlement to the police. Originally, Norman could have been released after a few years, but now he was involved in a major financial case, and it was likely he would never be released.
Aurelia looked at him coldly. She had never seen this side of Norman before, with his eyes filled with deep regret.
Finally, it was Norman who spoke first. "Aurelia, I might never get out in this lifetime. You and your sister must take care of each other; you're all the family you have."
Aurelia sneered. Even now, the person he was most concerned about was Chelsea."Dad," Aurelia spoke with difficulty. "This might be the last time I call you that. It won't be long before I return to Coral Bay. I forgot to tell you, I have many family members now. Grandma and Uncle are very fond of me. As for the sister you mentioned..."
Aurelia chuckled softly. "She has done many bad things; the police will take care of her. It's not my responsibility."
Norman hesitated for a moment, clearly frightened by Aurelia's words, but he still asked, unwilling to accept it, "Aurelia, what do you mean by what you just said?"
"Exactly what you think it means. Everyone has to face the consequences of their actions. Don't worry, the police won't wrong an innocent person," Aurelia replied.
Norman closed his eyes, and tears rolled down his cheeks. "Aurelia, I'm sorry."
"The person you owe the most is my mom," Aurelia replied. "I put the photo you wanted in the bag. It's your wedding photo with Maria. Both of you have done many bad things and deserve to be together forever."
Aurelia then took out the photo of Brenda and Norman from her bag and cut him out of it with scissors, leaving only Brenda. "You don't deserve to have my mom's photo."
Norman held his head and cried, unable to calm down for a long time.
Aurelia looked at the graying Norman and thought about being mistaken for someone else. She pursed her lips and asked, "Dad, I have one more question. I hope you won't lie to me. Did my mom have any other children?"
Norman was stunned for a moment and shook his head while crying. His emotions were too out of control, and the police ended their conversation early.
Aurelia left the prison and got caught in the evening rush hour on her way back.
There was an accident on the road, causing a severe traffic jam. Bored while waiting, Aurelia picked up her phone and saw Nathaniel's missed call.
She hesitated for a moment before calling back. By then, Nathaniel had already finished shopping with Reed and returned to the Heilbronn Villa.
"Did you call me earlier?" Aurelia asked.
"Aurelia, let Betty stay with you for a few days," Nathaniel said.
"I have Dahlia here; we don't really need more people. We're going back to Coral Bay in a few days," Aurelia replied.
Nathaniel's brow twitched. He knew what she meant; she still didn't want too much involvement with him.
"Aurelia, Dorothy and Jacob like Betty's cooking," he said after a pause. "And you like it too."
Aurelia unconsciously gripped the steering wheel. After a few seconds of silence, she relented, "Alright."
Only then did Nathaniel's expression soften.
It was an hour later when Aurelia got home.
As soon as she entered, she smelled the aroma of food. She was late, and everyone else had already eaten. Betty had saved some food for her and even made a few new dishes.
When the food was served, Betty stood by with a big smile, watching her eat. Perhaps it was because they hadn't seen each other for a while, but Betty seemed even more affectionate than before.
"Ma'am, eating more vegetables is good for your skin, eyes, and digestive system," Betty said said enthusiastically. She went on to list all the benefits, emphasizing how good they were for everything.
Aurelia had never liked green leafy vegetables, which had always worried Betty. She would always try to prepare them in a way that Aurelia could enjoy.
Aurelia took a bite, and the taste was familiar. Looking up, she saw Betty still watching her eat. "Betty, why don't you sit down and eat too?"
Betty smiled and said, "Mrs. Heilbronn, you enjoy your meal. We've already eaten. The two kids ate a lot and went downstairs for a walk with Dahlia."
Betty said as she pulled out a chair and sat across from her.
Aurelia looked up and smiled. "Betty, you should change how you address me. I'm no longer Mrs. Heilbronn."
Betty patted her mouth. "I've been calling you that for so many years; it's a hard habit to break. Besides, in Mr. Reed Heilbronn's heart and Mr. Nathaniel Heilbronn's heart, you'll always be Mrs. Heilbronn. No one else can take that place."
Aurelia curled her lips, finding Betty's words a bit too certain. "Betty, he can't stay single forever. He'll meet someone new eventually."
Betty shook her head and said, "Impossible. Mr. Heilbronn never intended to let another woman into the house. When you moved out of the Bloom Villa, Chelsea came over. Mr. Heilbronn wasn't home at the time, and I couldn't stop her from barging in. When Mr. Heilbronn found out, he threw out the carpet, the sofa she sat on, and even the things she touched."
Aurelia choked on her soup and coughed a few times. She recalled going back to the Bloom Villa with Nathaniel a few days ago; everything inside was still the same.
Seeing her confusion, Betty added, "Of course, he replaced everything with new furniture in the same style as before. He was worried you might not like it or feel upset if you came back and things had changed. He's just too reserved to say it, but he cares about you the most."
Aurelia was momentarily dazed, but the noise from downstairs brought her back to reality.
Aurelia was startled; it was Dahlia arguing with someone.
Dahlia was usually easygoing and wouldn't argue with others easily. Thinking that she was still out with the two kids, Aurelia threw down her utensils and quickly went out.
As she opened the door, Dorothy and Jacob ran in.
Aurelia checked the two kids and, finding no injuries, finally relaxed.
"Dorothy, Jacob, what happened outside?"
Dorothy, trembling and scared, clung to Aurelia, tears streaming down her face. Jacob, after catching his breath, slowly said, "We were jumping rope outside with Dahlia when two strange women came. One of them grabbed Dorothy, so I bit her hand, and she let go."
Aurelia was shocked and immediately thought of criminals. Dorothy was terrified, clinging to Aurelia and crying.
Aurelia felt her pocket; her phone was on the dining table. "Betty, call the police now!"
Betty finally reacted, nodded, and ran back to the dining room to get her phone and dial 911.
The cursing outside grew louder and more unpleasant. After comforting Dorothy for a few minutes, Aurelia handed the kids to Betty, locked the security door, and went out.
