Chapter 277 The Heilbronn family Has No Good People
The sound of high heels clicking got louder, and Aurelia's face went pale as she clenched her fists.
Outside the door, Ashley, arm in arm with Beatrice, made their way to the private room, both decked out in the fancy clothes of the rich and famous.
The manager, unable to convince Aurelia otherwise, turned to apologize to the two intimidating women. "Mrs. Heilbronn, Miss Heilbronn, I'm really sorry, but the lady in the private room is enjoying her meal, and it's not convenient to move her. How about I set up the luxury suite across the hall for you? I'll give you the guest list, and you can say a few kind words to Mr. Heilbronn later. Our restaurant owes a lot to Mr. Heilbronn's friends for helping us get started."
Ashley sneered, "My mother only likes this room. Get the people inside to leave immediately. The Heilbronn family will cover this meal. We need this room today."
Beatrice patted Ashley's hand on her arm, saying, "Ashley, mind your words. Your grandfather will be angry if he finds out."
Then she smiled at the manager and said, "Manager Davenport, I'm hosting important friends this time, and we're used to dining in this room. Please apologize to the guests inside and tell them that I will cover this meal. My friends are arriving soon. Please."
Inside, Aurelia sneered, knowing that Beatrice wouldn't really reprimand Ashley. Beatrice was just using a different approach. They never saw anything wrong with their unreasonable demands.
Even if others disagreed, they insisted on having their way, making things difficult for a restaurant manager with an air of financial indifference. Ashley’s temperament was entirely due to Beatrice.
Manager Davenport took a deep breath, forced a smile, and stood at the door again.
Before Manager Davenport could speak, Aurelia declared, "Manager Davenport, there's no need to ask. I've already said I won't switch rooms, no matter who comes."
Manager Davenport was at a loss, caught between guests who were difficult to deal with on both sides.
Ashley, unable to hold back her temper, burst out, "What kind of restaurant is this? Why is it so difficult to change a room? I want to see who is hogging our room and won't come out."
Ashley stormed towards the private room in her high heels. The moment she saw the people inside, she was stunned. Just a few seconds later, she regained her composure, her gaze shifting between the two people inside with contempt.
Ashley said, "I was wondering who it was. What bad luck."
Beatrice said, "Ashley, who is it inside?"
Before Ashley could answer, she had already walked over and, like Ashley, was stunned.
Two days ago, Reed had mentioned this at the dinner table, but they hadn't taken it seriously. Who would have thought they'd run into her so soon? Aurelia was indeed not dead, and judging by her attire, she seemed to be living quite well.
Beatrice scrutinized Aurelia. Her skin was paler than before, and she didn't look as rosy. Her hairstyle had changed to a chin-length bob, making her look sharp and capable. The determination in her eyes made her seem less easy to bully than before.
Ashley sneered, curling her red lips, saying, "So that's who was speaking so assertively and refusing to give up our private room—it turns out it's my brother's ex-wife! Can you even afford to eat here after leaving my brother? Won't you have to wash dishes to pay for your meal later? Why don't you beg me? Aurelia, are you crazy?"
Before Ashley could finish her sentence, Aurelia splashed a glass of red wine at her, and she said, "I used to tolerate you for Nathaniel's sake, but his face means nothing to me now. If you keep acting like a jerk, I'll splash you every time I see you!"
Patrick nodded with a smirk, picking up the wine bottle to refill her glass, looking like he was ready to hand over a knife in a fight. "Aurelia, we got plenty of wine. I'll keep refilling it for you after you splash it!"
Ashley was about to lose it. She had spent nearly an hour doing her makeup before going out, and she had carefully selected this dress from her wardrobe. Now, it was all ruined by that bitch.
"Mom, look at her!" Ashley whined.
Beatrice's face tightened as she pulled out a tissue from her bag to wipe Ashley. Seeing her precious daughter splashed like this broke her heart.
Beatrice said, "Aurelia, we're family. Is it necessary to get physical? Can't we just talk this out calmly? You were Ashley's sister-in-law before. Can't you cut her some slack?"
Aurelia had long been fed up with Beatrice's reasoning. Why should others cut Ashley some slack? Did she think the whole world was her mother?
"Beatrice, I'm sorry, but she provoked me first and insulted me. I was married into the Heilbronn family for three years, but I never felt Ashley's respect. Since that's the case, I have no reason to respect her. Respect is mutual. There's no need for these double standards in what you're saying."
Ashley's freshly styled hair was now wet and dripping. Hearing Aurelia's words made her even angrier, and no one could hold her back. She said furiously, "You're talking nonsense. My brother marrying you was a favor to you and an honor to your family. You don't even deserve to carry my shoes!"
"Ah!" Another scream.
Aurelia splashed another glass of wine at her, this time directly in her face.
Aurelia said coldly, "Ashley, I'm dining here, and you came to insult me, causing me trouble. If you continue to harass me, I'll call the police."
Beatrice's lips trembled with anger. "Aurelia! How can you treat your sister like this!"
Aurelia retorted, "Sorry, my mother only gave birth to me. I don't have a sister, especially not one as rude as her."
Beatrice's facade finally cracked, and she tore into Aurelia. "Aurelia, don't even think about stepping foot into the Heilbronn family again! A lowly and crude woman like you doesn't deserve my son!"
Aurelia said, "Don't trouble yourself. Just make sure your son doesn't keep coming to me. We're all adults with our own private spaces, and he's been bothering me for a long time."
Aurelia's words deeply stung Beatrice.
For the past four years, she had tirelessly scouted wealthy socialites for Nathaniel, but he refused to see anyone, even to the point of falling out with her.
Beatrice knew all too well what kind of life her son had been living these past four years. It was as if he were under Aurelia's spell, willing to remain faithful to her even after her supposed death, refusing to get close to any other woman.
Without a woman by his side, how could he produce an heir for the Heilbronn family?
Such a vast estate would eventually fall into the hands of that sickly Marcus.
Hearing Aurelia say that Nathaniel was pestering her made Beatrice lose her composure.
As a mother, she had worried herself sick over her son's future, only for him to cling to his ex-wife's cold shoulder. It was a slap in her face!
Beatrice spat out, "Aurelia, remember what you said today. My son would rather marry a blind, crippled woman than let you back in."
Patrick, who was listening to all this, found it particularly grating.
He clearly remembered his good friend Joe's instructions before they set out: to help take care of his sister and not let bad people bully her, especially the Heilbronn family.
Now it seemed the Heilbronn family indeed had no good people.
