Chapter 286 Don't Go

Right then, Dr. Carter and Aurelia were both staring at Nathaniel, waiting for him to pull out the meds. Nathaniel, feeling the pressure, tried to change the topic, glancing around nervously. "Hey, Dr. Carter, what did the tests say about my mom? She fainted again a few days ago."

Dr. Carter answered straight up, "Beatrice has her usual issues. She caught a cold from the AC recently. Don't worry, I'll prescribe something to help her get better. With the right care, she'll be fine."

Nathaniel asked, "Can she still use the AC? It's been super hot, and it might be rough without it."

"Sure, she can use it. Just make sure it's not blowing right on her and don't set it too low."

Aurelia was getting annoyed. She didn't come all the way here in the middle of the night to hear them talk about Beatrice and the AC.

Aurelia urged, "Dr. Carter, can you check on him first? He's burning up."

Dr. Carter cleared his throat awkwardly and walked over to Nathaniel.

"Mr. Heilbronn, is the rash just on your neck, or do you have it elsewhere?"

Nathaniel scratched his arm, feeling itchy all over. "I don't know, probably everywhere. My arms are itchy too."

"Please take off your shirt so I can check."

Nathaniel didn't mind, since Dr. Carter was also a guy. He managed to sit up and casually took off his shirt, then asked, "Do I need to take off my pants too?"

Dr. Carter chuckled, "No need."

Aurelia's face turned red. If Dr. Carter hadn't said no, Nathaniel might've stripped completely in front of her.

"Mr. Heilbronn, show me the medicine you've been taking so I can figure out how bad your allergy is. I can't prescribe anything without knowing."

The conversation circled back to the medicine.

Nathaniel hesitated, "Just prescribe some anti-allergy meds. I don't think it's that serious."

Aurelia couldn't take it anymore. He was usually so efficient at work, but today he was stalling.

Aurelia said directly, "He's taking antidepressants. As for the name, Mr. Heilbronn needs to show you the bottle."

Nathaniel was shocked, thinking, 'How did she know I was taking antidepressants?'

He reached out and grabbed the bottle from the bedside drawer, handing it to Dr. Carter. "Here it is, Dr. Carter."

Dr. Carter took the bottle and went to the living room to check it out.

Now, it was just the two of them.

Nathaniel was still shirtless, his well-defined chest and abs looking particularly attractive under the light. He was leaner than four years ago, having used exercise to deal with his emotions. When he couldn't sleep, he'd hit the gym.

Aurelia turned her head, feeling a bit flustered.

"Just put your shirt back on already," she said.

Nathaniel slowly put his pajamas back on, buttoning them one by one.

"Why are you depressed?" she asked.

Nathaniel's face turned serious. He didn't want to use this to gain her sympathy and get closer to her. He wanted to win her back with his sincerity, and it had to be her willing choice, without any other reasons.

"Aurelia, it's nothing. I'm fine now." He said this without much confidence, knowing full well that he had relapsed today, which was why he took the medicine and ended up with an allergic reaction.

"Do you still have thoughts of dying?" Aurelia's voice trembled as she asked.

Nathaniel fell silent for a while. It must have been Zack who told her.

He once thought about dying just to be with her and their kids. But now that he knew she was alive, dying wasn't an option. He wanted to live and be with her.

"Aurelia, no," he said.

Aurelia seemed to relax a bit at his answer.

Nathaniel looked at her back, feeling a deep ache. He had already put his shirt back on.

"Aurelia, turn around."

She turned but didn't look directly at him.

Nathaniel could still see her red eyes, like she'd been crying. "Aurelia, those four years without you were really tough for me. But none of that compares to the pain you went through. It's hard enough for two people to be happy together. Let's not torture each other anymore."

Aurelia laughed, "We're not right for each other. Don't say things that make it awkward. If Zack hadn't told me how serious your condition was, I wouldn't have come."

Then she added, "He said you were dying and refused to go to the hospital. Once your fever is down, go see a therapist. Don't delay your treatment."

Nathaniel felt a sharp pain in his heart. His psychological issues were right in front of him. What was the point of seeing a therapist? As long as she was here, it was better than any professional therapist. "Aurelia, it will get better."Dr. Carter came back with the test results. "Mr. Heilbronn, how long have you been taking this medicine?"

Nathaniel replied steadily, "Four years."

Dr. Carter reminded, "Mr. Heilbronn, you must never take this medicine with alcohol again. You're lucky you didn't drink much, or it could have been fatal."

Nathaniel kept a straight face, not saying anything. He had never paid attention to this issue before. This was the first time he drank alcohol and took the medicine.

Dr. Carter's words scared Aurelia. No matter what, he was someone she had deeply loved and the father of her two children. Hearing something so dangerous, she couldn't help but be moved.

"Dr. Carter, does he need his stomach pumped?" she asked.

Dr. Carter shook his head. "Mr. Heilbronn drank the alcohol over eight hours ago. The reactions have already occurred. Stomach pumping wouldn't be very effective now. He should start drinking more water to flush the medicine out of his system. I'll prescribe something to bring down the fever. The rash on his skin needs a topical treatment, but I don't have it with me. I'll need Zack to accompany me to get it. Mrs. Heilbronn, please stay here and take care of Mr. Heilbronn. His fever is quite high, and I'm not familiar with his depression. It's best if someone stays with him."

Dr. Carter handed a small bottle of fever medicine to Aurelia. "Mrs. Heilbronn, give this to Mr. Heilbronn and use physical methods to help reduce his fever. I'll go get the other medicine now."

With that, Dr. Carter hurriedly left with his bag.

Aurelia followed Dr. Carter's instructions, pouring out 20 milliliters of the medicine. She went to the living room to get some water. When she returned, Nathaniel was already dozing off against the headboard, mumbling, "Aurelia, don't go..."

Aurelia reached out to feel his forehead, which seemed even hotter than before.

"Nathaniel, take your medicine." She called out, but Nathaniel didn't respond.

Aurelia was worried he might pass out. She had no experience taking care of a patient. She pushed him gently, "Nathaniel, wake up and take your medicine first."

Nathaniel finally reacted, reaching out to grab her hand tightly. "Aurelia, don't leave me, please. I'm begging you..."

Can't win me back
