Chapter 251 That Bastard Is Investigating Her
Amber and Aurelia were holding hands as they went upstairs, like they were glued together or something.
The three of them plopped down in the dining room. The grilled meat on the barbecue was sizzling like crazy, and even with the AC cranked up, the heat was still intense.
They were all pretty hyped.
After four years apart, they had a ton to catch up on.
Their glasses clinked, and Aurelia took a tiny sip of her drink before saying, "Ulysses, Amber, I've been chilling in Coral Bay with my grandma's family for the past four years. I'm doing fine, so no worries. I didn't hit you guys up 'cause I was dodging Nathaniel, scared he'd find out I was still kicking and come after me. Now that he's found me, no more hiding. I can hit up any friends I want now."
Ulysses gripped his glass tight, looking shocked, "That jerk found you? Aurelia, listen, no matter what he says or does, don't forgive him. Nothing can make up for what you went through."
Aurelia nodded, "Yeah, I won't forgive him."
Amber, who had been Aurelia's prenatal doc, was more worried about the baby. At the time of the car crash, Aurelia was in the late stages of her pregnancy.
Thinking about that huge accident, she feared the worst. It was all over the news, and she couldn't even watch the footage on TV.
After a long pause, she finally asked, "Aurelia, how are the babies?"
Thinking of her two little ones, Aurelia's face lit up, "They're four now, a boy and a girl. I'll bring them to meet you when I can."
Hearing that Aurelia had two healthy kids despite the crash, Amber covered her mouth, tears in her eyes, "That's amazing, Aurelia."
Aurelia pulled out her phone and showed Amber the pics she had. The whole album, aside from some jewelry shots, was packed with pictures of the kids.
She said, "Nathaniel doesn't know about the kids yet, so keep it on the down-low, okay?"
Knowing Nathaniel's ways, Aurelia figured he'd find out about the kids eventually, but she wanted to keep it a secret as long as possible, ideally until they turned eighteen.
Amber's face got serious, "Will Nathaniel fight you for custody?"
Aurelia looked sad, "Hard to say. The thing is, he also has a kid with Chelsea. If he can't give my kids full fatherly love, I won't let him take them."
Ulysses, who hung out with Oscar a lot, knew more about what went down with Nathaniel. Seeing Aurelia thought Chelsea had the baby, he spilled the truth, "Aurelia, Chelsea didn't have the baby. Nathaniel made her get rid of it. After you disappeared, he made a cenotaph for you and had a funeral. He dealt with that awful Maria and Chelsea."
He added, "During that time, he was so messed up he couldn't even run the company. I heard he spent all his time sleeping at your grave until Zack dragged him away."
Hearing this made Aurelia's heart ache for a moment. Since they reunited, she hadn't let Nathaniel explain, always keeping her distance. She thought Chelsea became Nathaniel's wife, and they were a happy family of three.
It turned out he had kicked Chelsea out long ago.
It turned out he did have some limits.
But she wasn't about to fall for his late-to-the-party affection.
Aurelia downed her drink in one go, feeling the warmth hit her throat instantly.
Seeing her mood take a nosedive, Ulysses decided to drop the Nathaniel talk. He knew she needed time to wrap her head around their reunion.
He smoothly switched gears, "Aurelia, what's up with your grandma? How come we never knew you had family in Coral Bay?"
Aurelia started chatting about her grandma's family and all the interesting stuff that had gone down in Coral Bay over the past few years.
Ulysses suddenly remembered something and asked, "Aurelia, I heard Norman got busted for raping an underage girl. His company’s a mess now, with shareholders fighting over control. You bought a ton of Thompson Enterprises stock back then. Now that you're back, you gonna check it out?"
Aurelia was stunned for a moment.
She knew Norman was a sleazeball, but she never thought he'd stoop that low.
"He got arrested?" she asked.
Ulysses nodded. "Yeah, not too long ago. Oscar mentioned it."
Aurelia absentmindedly picked at the meat in her plate. She hadn't kept tabs on Norman's company in years.
She'd bought those shares to mess with Maria and Chelsea, but the car crash happened before she could make her move. After that, she had no plans to return to Imperick, so it all got shelved.
Considering Ulysses' suggestion, she opened her stock app and saw Thompson Enterprises' stock had tanked, hitting an all-time low. Clearly, the company was in deep trouble.
Aurelia knew Norman had used her mom's private money to start the company. Brenda had put in a lot of effort in the early days. Without her, the company would not have achieved success, given Norman's stupidity.
Seeing it in shambles now made Aurelia feel bad. If Brenda were still around, she would've run the company way better.
Aurelia was now the biggest shareholder, giving her a lot of sway. But she had bigger fish to fry on this trip back to Imperick, mainly moving Brenda's grave to Coral Bay. She couldn't deal with the company's mess just yet.
This would have to wait.
After dinner, Aurelia grabbed a cab home.
She crashed in her old room. In this villa, it was the biggest and brightest room besides the master bedroom.
Moreover, Brenda had meticulously decorated her room.
Later, when Maria moved in with Chelsea, Norman had forced Aurelia to give up the room to Chelsea.
The walls still bore traces of the posters Chelsea had once put up. Even though the room had been cleaned after they got it back, it still had Chelsea's vibe.
Thinking about all this made Aurelia feel down. No matter how much time had passed, it was still a sore spot.
Unable to sleep, she scrolled through her phone. When she opened her contacts and saw several missed calls from today, her eyes landed on an unsaved number.
She rubbed her eyes and looked again. It was a number she knew by heart, even after four years. Those digits were burned into her brain.
This was Aurelia's personal number, only known to her family and close friends. She couldn't figure out how Nathaniel had found it.
She had a gut feeling Nathaniel was digging into her life. Nathaniel cursed inwardly, 'That jerk!'
