Chapter 49 Nosebleed
The police officer's gaze wandered among the three individuals, wondering what drama had unfolded today. The person who claimed to be the proprietress was not the real one; the accused thief was the CEO's wife.
However, the police had no authority to meddle in the private affairs of these high-profile individuals; their task was to handle the case.
Suppressing his curiosity, the officer turned to Chelsea and began, "About your mother's belongings..."
Before he could finish, Nathaniel interjected, "What belongings? Chelsea, isn't your mother fine at home?"
The police officer no longer needed to ask anything; it was a family matter—it's hard to judge family matters—and it involved the CEO of the Heilbronn Group.
It was best left for them to resolve internally.
"If you have no further questions, we'll get back to work," the police said.
Nathaniel nodded politely, "Thank you."
As the police officer left, he cast a sympathetic glance at Aurelia.
"Ms. Semona, please take care of your mother's belongings and don't lose them again."
Chelsea's face turned green with anger; the statement implied that she had stolen Aurelia's mother's belongings.
Nathaniel was unaware of the situation with the heirloom.
"Heirloom?" Nathaniel gazed at Aurelia, awaiting her response.
Aurelia took out the necklace her mother had left her and held it in her palm.
"My mother's necklace was in Chelsea's drawer. She asked me to retrieve it, and I did open her drawer without permission."
Nathaniel finally understood how the police had been informed.
He stared at Chelsea in disbelief and disappointment. "Come with me," he said, his voice cold.
Chelsea felt a pang of fear as Nathaniel looked at her.
The two of them left the office, leaving Aurelia standing alone.
She looked at the ring on her finger, feeling a sense of loss. 'Can lost things be found again? What about lost people?' she wondered.
It was now clear to Nathaniel that Chelsea had been exposed. He should have seen through her. Aurelia was somewhat curious about how Nathaniel would handle the situation.
He was always domineering, whether in business or life. He disliked it when someone used underhanded methods in his presence.
Nathaniel took Chelsea away, and the other employees gradually returned to their workstations.
No one dared to gossip anymore. Zack issued a warning in the group chat: [Today's events are not allowed to be discussed further. Anyone who dared to say another word would be immediately fired.]
Life was not easy, and no one was willing to lose a job that paid twice as much as others.
As they passed by Aurelia's desk, they caught a glimpse of the sparkling diamond ring on her ring finger.
Aurelia put the ring back on her finger, and the lie was exposed. No one dared to accuse her of being a thief anymore; in fact, they felt that she must have had a significant identity to wear such a ring.
Chelsea stood in front of the president's office, unable to move forward. Nathaniel's disgust made her feel as if she had fallen into an icy abyss.
It was a look he had never given her before.
"Nathaniel, you've misunderstood," she tried to explain but found herself at a loss for words.
"Do you often wear these earrings?"
Nathaniel's large hand reached up to Chelsea’s earlobe, and Chelsea couldn't help but tremble. The tense heart finally relaxed, and tears welled up in her eyes.
"Nathaniel, you scared me just now."
Nathaniel suddenly exerted some force, causing Chelsea's earlobe to ache. When she looked up, the pearl earring was already in Nathaniel's hand.
"Answer me. Do you often wear this pair of earrings?"
Chelsea looked at him with teary eyes, not understanding why he cared so much about the earrings. Last time, he took them off and asked her about them for half a day.
Nathaniel's face turned even colder.
She obediently nodded, and the heart that had just relaxed tightened again.
Nathaniel threw the earring into the trash can as if his hand would be dirtied if he held it for another second.
"Don't do those despicable things again. I won't allow anyone to interfere in my affairs with her. If I find out that someone has hurt my wife again, you know what punishment you would receive."
Chelsea's body went cold.
'They have all signed the divorce agreement, and he is still willing to call her his wife and stand up for her. Then what am I?'
"Nathaniel, will you still marry me?" she couldn't help but ask.
Nathaniel coldly raised his eyelids. "The law does not allow bigamy."
The sentence crushed all Chelsea's expectations.
She returned to the country with a goal and thought he was also looking forward to it.
She thought she had finally endured the most difficult long-distance relationship, so she kept it from him that her health had almost recovered, hoping that he would take better care of her and quickly divorce Aurelia.
But now, Nathaniel said such heartless words.
At this moment, Chelsea's tears burst out like a floodgate.
"What about that night?"
Nathaniel rubbed his temples, feeling a headache. He had been thinking for so long and had not come up with a good solution to the matter. Now that she brought it up, it was obviously a demand for an explanation.
And he had promised to give her an explanation.
But now, what she wanted, he probably didn't want to give.
"Chelsea, I can give you anything you want: cars, money, houses, anything."
Chelsea couldn't believe her ears.
There is a saying in the upper-class circle that you can go for his money, his heart, or even his person, but you can't go for his name.
She now deeply understood this.
Chelsea knew that Nathaniel really didn't intend to divorce.
Nathaniel probably felt that he owed the woman in front of him, and his tone softened.
"Go back and think about it. Don't do anything that embarrasses everyone."
Chelsea left the president's office, feeling as if her soul had been sucked away. The man she had loved for many years now only wanted to give her money, and she couldn't reconcile with it.
Aurelia thought Nathaniel would fire Chelsea. After all, the Heilbronn Group adhered importance to principles and did not accept employees with a tarnished reputation.
When Aurelia saw Chelsea return to her workstation as if nothing had happened, she knew Nathaniel had softened his heart towards Chelsea.
He tolerated everything about Chelsea, even the fact that the woman had someone defile his wife.
'What exactly is first love in a man's heart? Even though he knows she has done something against humanity, he is still willing to stand by her side.'
Aurelia's heart shattered once again, and she couldn't help but think that if Chelsea came to take her life, Nathaniel could also handle it.
At noon, Ted came to deliver lunch again.
Neither of them had much of an appetite today, and they ate a few bites, lost in their thoughts.
Nathaniel stared at the dish, which tasted good but had no discernible original ingredients. "Ted, don't bother anymore. There are plenty of restaurants near the company."
Aurelia wondered if he really didn't want to eat the food from the Heilbronn Villa or if he didn't want to eat with her.
"Ted, don't bother anymore."
Ted forced a smile. "Mr. Reed Heilbronn is afraid that you won't eat well and that the food outside is unsanitary."
Nathaniel rubbed his nose, and two hot things flowed out of his nostrils. He instinctively looked up and tasted a sweet and sour taste in his throat.
Ted hurriedly helped him with the tissue.
"Mr. Heilbronn, you're having a nosebleed."
Nathaniel took the tissue, and Ted quickly cleaned up the leftovers on the table. By the time Nathaniel reacted, Ted had already taken everything away and cleaned the table.
"Mr. Heilbronn, the weather has been dry lately. Drink more water. If there is nothing else, I'll leave now. Mr. Reed Heilbronn is still waiting for me."
Ted found a reason to leave quickly.
Aurelia was about to leave. When she had barely reached out to grab the doorknob, a hand reached out and grabbed the doorknob.
