Chapter 379 Tit for Tat

Marcus didn't stay long in the ward; those two kids really made him feel uncomfortable.

Only God could see the jealousy that was driving him mad inside."Dad, since you have company, I'll go take care of some things. Call me if you need anything."

Reed waved his hand, "Go ahead, there's nothing much here."

As long as he saw his two precious darlings nearby, everyone else was unnecessary.

After speaking, Marcus gave Aurelia a meaningful look and turned to leave.

As soon as he left, Nathaniel followed him out. Marcus stopped at the elevator; he had heard the footsteps behind him but chose to ignore them.

Taking Aurelia away was a certainty for him; what others said would only add to his troubles and wouldn't affect his decision.

The elevator door opened, and Nathaniel spoke coldly, "Can we talk for a bit?"

Marcus adjusted his glasses, a slight smile curling at the corner of his mouth, "Is there any need to talk?"

The uncle and nephew had been fighting openly and secretly within the group, maintaining only a facade of peace in front of Reed.

Their battles were private; they had never torn each other apart for a direct confrontation.

Nathaniel's eyes were deep, giving off a sense of long-suppressed tension, "Uncle Marcus, you are a respectable man; I don't want to make this public, as it would disgrace the Heilbronn family."

Nathaniel seemed ready to lay everything out.

If Marcus were to compete with him for control of the company, he wouldn't care; he had the ability and confidence to protect what he had.

But Marcus was fixated on Aurelia, and no one could covet his woman.

Marcus was silent, perhaps not expecting Nathaniel to be so direct.

The elevator door closed automatically after a few seconds, and Marcus laughed suddenly, turning to walk towards the stairwell.

The two men entered the stairwell one after the other. The nineteen floors were quiet, and their breathing echoed in the silence, filled with a sense of competition.

Nathaniel pulled out a cigarette, lit it, took a deep drag, and exhaled heavily. Behind the thin smoke was a cold, hard face, "How long have you been fixated on Aurelia? It's time to give up, isn't it?"

Marcus coughed a few times from the smoke, unable to speak for a while.

Seeing this, Nathaniel leisurely extinguished the cigarette, speaking in a careless tone, "I forgot, you have asthma."

Marcus took a moment to recover, and as the smoke cleared, he finally spoke, "Aurelia is a person, not someone's accessory. She has the right to choose."

Nathaniel played with the extinguished cigarette between his fingers, his smile cold.

"How can you be so confident that Aurelia will give you a chance? She was my wife before, and now she's the mother of my children. When did you ever have a chance? Do you think that by doing things behind the scenes, Aurelia will leave with you? You're just fooling yourself."

Marcus's throat moved slightly, but he remained expressionless despite Nathaniel's mocking words.

"I will definitely take Aurelia away. If not this time, then the next. Can you guard her forever? I've bought her favorite house, decorated it entirely to her liking. Her miserable life back home should come to an end."

Nathaniel sneered, his laugh full of sarcasm, "Do you really think she's that person, or are you just pretending to be stupid? Four years ago, in that avalanche, your wife disappeared. How long are you going to let your obsession trouble others?"

At the mention of the avalanche four years ago, Marcus finally reacted, "Enough!" He shouted, his eyes bloodshot.

That avalanche was a pain he dared not mention. No matter how gentle he usually was, mentioning the avalanche from four years ago would make him collapse and turn ruthless in an instant.

After shouting, Marcus coughed again. Once he calmed down, he said firmly, "Aurelia is her; she is Aurelia. I've fulfilled all the promises I made to her: quitting spicy food, overcoming my cleanliness obsession, going to bed early and waking up early, and even preparing the lab she always dreamed of. Now it's her turn to fulfill her promise."

Marcus fell into a reverie after speaking, "She said that after traveling around the world, we would buy a quiet house in Elvenia and settle down. We'd have two babies, a boy and a girl."

At this point, Marcus looked at Nathaniel, his eyes filled with hatred.

The woman he loved deeply had children with another man. This thorn was buried in the softest part of his heart, and every time he thought about it, it hurt deeply.

Nathaniel's fingers tightened, deforming the cigarette and causing a layer of ash to fall.

Hearing Marcus fantasize about Aurelia and mention having children made him feel unbearably disgusted.

"I always knew you were sick, but I didn't realize you were a complete lunatic! Your wife just looks like Aurelia. If you loved her so much, you would know they are two different people."

Nathaniel glared at Marcus, wishing he could kill him with his eyes, "I'm warning you, don't harass my wife and children again. You know I'm not a sentimental person. Aurelia is my bottom line; don't push me to do something unethical."

Marcus showed no sign of backing down. Losing her was the most terrifying thing he had ever experienced; what else could threaten him? "She is my bottom line too."

Nathaniel had never seen someone so impervious to reason, who wouldn't listen to anything.

He picked up his phone, unlocked it, and after a few taps on the screen, Marcus's phone chimed with a message notification.

"If you still don't believe me, take a look for yourself. Your wife has a very noticeable red mole on her chest, doesn't she?"

Nathaniel continued, "Aurelia doesn't."

Marcus's eyes fixed on the phone. It was a set of photos taken during a vacation with Burry. Burry had a great figure and wore a bikini on the beach. But how did Nathaniel get these photos?

How could he not know his wife's body? Countless nights, he had buried his head in that small mole, lost in passion.

"Impossible, Aurelia must have it. She is Burry, the wife I vowed to be with in front of the priest." Marcus's previous calmness was gone, as if he had been provoked.

In his darkest moments, Aurelia's appearance had brought him light.

Now, Nathaniel's words were almost extinguishing the hope in his heart.

Marcus clenched his fists, veins bulging on his arms, his breathing becoming rapid.

Nathaniel coldly said, "Got your medication? I don't want to anger you to death. After all, I haven't said anything excessive; everything I've said is the truth."

Putting aside everything else, he initially had no ill will towards Marcus. If Marcus didn't fight for the company's control, he would have willingly shared some of it.

But Marcus had ulterior motives, coveting Aurelia, and he was not a forgiving person.
