Chapter 449 I'll Try to Learn
"Nathaniel?"
She called out for no reason, and Nathaniel looked down.
"Hmm?"
"Do you have any more dirt on Norman? Why didn't you bring it all out?"
Nathaniel snapped back to reality and realized the movie had ended. No wonder she had time to chat.
"There's nothing else. Compared to his embezzlement of huge public funds, everything else is insignificant. I was just scaring him in the interrogation room."
Aurelia's eyes showed a hint of disappointment.
"I thought you really had something on him that could increase Norman's sentence. You sounded so convincing in the interrogation room."
Nathaniel paused for a moment. "I was afraid he wouldn't tell the truth, so I had to scare him. Actually, my words had a lot of loopholes. He was probably just scared at the moment, but he would figure it out later."
Aurelia asked, "Do you know the people he mentioned at the dinner?"
Nathaniel counted the key information he had extracted from Norman. The people he mentioned were all big shots. He wasn't familiar with them, but they were all prominent families, and there was some business interaction.
"Yes, I know them." After a pause, he asked, "Aurelia, if we find your biological father, would you accept him?"
Aurelia didn't have much attachment to her father. Instead of finding the man who only provided a cell, she wanted to understand what had happened back then.
If possible, she wanted to seek justice for her mother. "I want to give my mom an explanation."
Nathaniel nodded. "I'll help you find the truth."
The next day, Aurelia and Nathaniel went their separate ways to their respective companies. Since they were back, they naturally had to check on their companies and handle some work.
Near the end of the workday, Nathaniel drove to Aurelia's building.
"Aurelia, come down."
They had agreed to attend Phoenix's grandmother's birthday party today. They needed to prepare in advance, not go empty-handed, and also dress appropriately.
Aurelia declined Patrick's invitation for dinner, packed her things, and went downstairs. As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she saw Nathaniel in a custom-made gray suit, exuding an aristocratic aura.
Nathaniel reached out to her.
"Aurelia, I prepared a few outfits for you. Pick one."
Aurelia got into the car, her eyes unconsciously drifting to the driver's seat. Nathaniel usually wore dark clothes, rarely light-colored ones. His whole demeanor seemed different from before.
Nathaniel fastened his seatbelt and looked at her.
"Aurelia, why are you staring at me?"
Aurelia retracted her gaze and complimented him without hesitation.
"You look quite handsome today. You should wear light-colored clothes more often. It makes you seem gentler and less cold."
Nathaniel only caught one word. "I'm not gentle?"
Aurelia was momentarily speechless and followed up with his question. "Do you think you're gentle?"
Nathaniel scratched his brow. "Alright, I'll try to learn."
Nathaniel drove home, and the stylist he had called was already there. Several expensive-looking dresses were hanging on a rack in the living room.
Aurelia chose a simple, understated strapless dress that suited her temperament.
After getting styled, Nathaniel didn't use a driver and drove her to the Sawyer family mansion..
Aurelia clutched her purse, thinking about Norman's words, feeling a bit nervous.
"Nathaniel, the Dominic Norman mentioned that day is Phoenix's father, right?"
Nathaniel nodded. "Dominic and Reed have a good relationship. He's a decent person."
Based on his understanding of Dominic, Nathaniel believed he wasn't the type to take advantage of someone, especially not a woman who had been drugged and drunk.
The car stopped outside the Sawyer family mansion.
Nathaniel took the prepared gift to the front desk and held Aurelia's hand as they entered.
Phoenix's grandmother, Madeline Sawyer, was turning eighty. The birthday party was grand, inviting all the elites and nobles of Imperick, making it quite lively.
Nathaniel's face always stood out wherever he went. This time, he brought Aurelia, and the crowd's gaze was somewhat complicated.
Everyone in Imperick's wealthy circle knew about their past drama—divorce, car accident, trending news. They had all followed the gossip for almost a month.
Seeing them together again, looking intimate, people couldn't help but sigh. Over the years, no woman had caught Nathaniel's eye. It turned out he had been waiting for Aurelia to return.
Among the crowd, some offered blessings, while others were jealous.
Many socialites who had tried to attach themselves to the Heilbronn family over the past four years whispered among themselves.
"Didn't Aurelia die? I saw the news; the ambulance took her away, and there was so much blood. Was it a fake death?"
"She must have tricked Mr. Heilbronn to make him feel sorry for her. Quite a tactic. I have to say, Mr. Heilbronn really fell for it. She looks like a vixen."
"What kind of taste does Mr. Heilbronn have? That woman is just average-looking. Which of us is worse than her?"
Ashley, wearing a low-cut, high-slit sexy dress, walked over. "She really doesn't deserve my family, but my brother is blind and insists on her."
The crowd stirred. The socialite circle in Imperick was small, and news spread quickly. Everyone knew about Ashley's recent stint in jail.
Was she released so soon?
People looked at her with some disdain, but since she was the eldest daughter of the Heilbronn family, they had to be polite. Her brother was formidable, after all. A few girls forced a smile.
"Ashley, you're here?"
"Ashley, did your brother remarry Aurelia?"
"Ashley, give us some inside scoop!"
Ashley looked down on Aurelia. In her mind, none of the women present were worthy of her brother.
"My brother won't remarry her, but he probably doesn't fancy anyone else either."
This statement implied that Nathaniel didn't fancy Aurelia, nor did he fancy anyone present. Soon, everyone lost interest and dispersed.
Nova walked over with a glass of champagne.
"Ashley, it's been a while, but it seems your temper hasn't improved at all."
Nova had long been displeased with the crowd's comments. Now, with Ashley's condescending attitude, she couldn't stand it anymore. It didn't bother her personally, but she couldn't tolerate anyone insulting her idol.
Ashley's face stiffened. She had just been released two days ago, and her time in jail was a stain on her life. Even the usually low-key Nova was mocking her.
