Chapter 220 Going to the CBD
Caleb stood at the door holding a beautifully wrapped bouquet of flowers. He was momentarily stunned to see Nova, then asked in a slightly disdainful tone, "What are you doing here?"
Nova cast a skeptical gaze at her seemingly useless brother, examining him from head to toe. She was taken aback to see him holding a bouquet of flowers, as she had never witnessed him purchasing any for their mother's birthday or any other occasion.
"I'm here to talk to Anna about something. Do I need to report to you?"
Caleb raised an eyebrow, his gaze shifting between the two women, thinking to himself that it was probably his thick-skinned sister trying to cozy up to Anna.
"I didn't expect you two are so close."
Nova snorted and muttered under her breath, "If you weren't so useless, I could call her sister-in-law by now!"
Caleb glared at her in warning, and Nova quickly shut her mouth.
Aurelia remained seated at her desk, her expression devoid of emotion. She appeared to disregard the presence of the siblings, treating them as if they were invisible.
Caleb walked in and placed the bouquet on her desk, saying, "I saw these on the street and thought they looked nice. I heard they last a bit longer. Should I have my assistant arrange them for you?"
Aurelia looked at the bouquet, which didn't seem like something casually bought on the street. Caleb had been considerate and tactful over the years, always saying things in a way that left no room for criticism. She knew that if he admitted to ordering the flowers, she would coldly tell him not to buy them again.
Everything he had given her over the past four years had been carefully chosen.
"Caleb!" Aurelia looked up at him, her expression rather helpless. She glanced at Nova sitting on the sofa and said bluntly, "What's the point of wasting your time here?"
Caleb's expression turned serious, and he said, "How do you know I'm not enjoying myself?"
Aurelia was momentarily speechless and said coldly, "I need to get back to work. Please close the door on your way out."
Caleb had heard this dismissal many times and had grown thick-skinned. Normally, he would shamelessly linger a bit longer, but with his sister sitting there watching, he found it was too annoying.
"Then I'll take Nova away first. How about dinner together this weekend?" he offered.
Aurelia opened her laptop without even looking up. "We'll see. I have a lot of work to do."
Caleb walked over to the sofa and reached out to pull his sister up. Nova, like a cat with its fur standing on end, protested,
"What are you doing? Anna didn't tell me to leave. Why are you dragging me? I haven't finished talking to her yet."
Ignoring her protests, Caleb dragged her out of the office.
In Imperick.
Joe arrived at the international airport with two kids and a nanny. His assistant in Imperick was already there to pick them up.
Joe put the nanny and kids in the car and said, "Jacob, Dorothy, Kai will take you back to the hotel first. I'll take you out to play after I finish my work. Listen to Dhlia, and if you need anything, call me. If you can't reach me, contact Kai. Got it?"
Kai Donovan was Joe's trusted assistant in Imperick.
The two kids got into the nanny's car and said in unison, "Got it, Uncle."
Joe gave the nanny and Kai some more instructions before hurrying to catch a cab. He had a contract to sign that afternoon and couldn't afford to be late, so he had to leave the task of taking the kids to the hotel to his assistant.
In the nanny's car, the two kids became lively once they were out of their uncle's supervision, drinking yogurt and waving their hands excitedly. The car arrived at the hotel, and Kai escorted the nanny, Dahlia, and the two kids to their room before leaving.
Jacob, taking advantage of Dahlia being busy, opened his laptop and started typing away. After a few minutes, he called Dorothy over, "Sis, sis!"
Dorothy, holding her favorite strawberry bear, ran over and asked, "Jacob, what's up?"
Jacoba whispered a few words in her ear and then asked, "Do you know what to do?"
Dorothy nodded and asked, "Can we really find Dad?"
"We can, as long as we work together. We definitely can."
Dorothy nodded obediently. "Go, Jacob! I'll complete my mission!"
The two kids were plotting something big, completely unbeknownst to Dahlia.
After dinner, Joe returned and saw that the kids had been well-behaved. He picked up Jacob and Dorothy and sat them on his lap,
"I'm available tonight. Where do you want to go? Most attractions are probably closed at night. We could go to a children's park, ride the Ferris wheel to see the night view of Imperick, or do you have any other ideas?"
Dorothy's big eyes sparkled as she said, "Uncle, can we go to the CBD?"
Joe arched an eyebrow, taken aback by Dorothy's suggestion. He hadn't anticipated her showing interest in CBD and its potential benefits.
"Dorothy, why do you want to go there? It's a place where adults work, not really suitable for kids. How about we go to an indoor playground instead?"
Jacoba frowned. "Uncle, you're so boring. Who comes to Imperick to go to an indoor playground? Aren't they all the same everywhere?"
They had a point. Joe chuckled awkwardly and asked, "So, you both want to go to the CBD?"
The kids nodded enthusiastically.
Joe couldn't think of anything in the CBD that would be fun for kids, but he agreed to take them there, thinking it might be good for them to gain some knowledge. After all, they would eventually take over the family business, so it wouldn't hurt to start early.
Jacob jumped off Joe's lap, opened his laptop, and started typing away. Then he put on his smartwatch.
Joe watched his little nephew, who looked like a mini-adult, asking, "Jacob, what are you doing on the computer?"
"Uncle, I'm installing a tracking system," he replied.
The family knew Jacoba was a little genius, interested in electronics since he was three. What they didn't know was that he had secretly modified his smartwatch, turning it into a mini-computer.
He installed the tracking system on his smartwatch, syncing it with his laptop, so he could record the route they would take.
Jacob said,"Uncle, I'm ready. Shall we go?"
Joe took the kids downstairs, where his assistant Kai was already waiting.
The kids got into the car, and Jacob looked out the window,
"Mr. Donovan, can we follow the route I set?"
Kai started the car and smiled at him through the rearview mirror, "Sure, today we'll follow your navigation. Just let me know in advance when we need to turn."
Jacoba responded excitedly, "OK, let's go!"
The car merged onto the main road, heading towards the CBD.
Along the way, Jacob watched the screen of his smartwatch, directing the route and occasionally jotting down notes. Joe was curious about his nephew, noticing that the notes looked like a map with circles, checkmarks, and various symbols.
Joe asked, "Jacob, can you tell Uncle what you're drawing?"
Jacoba shook his head. "It's a secret!"
