Chapter 282 Dealing with a Hacker
Aurelia was seriously freaked out by Marcus, her face going ghostly pale.
"Marcus, don't do this. There are security guards outside," she said, her voice shaky.
But Marcus wasn't listening. He was off in his own world, talking about something completely different.
"Four years ago, I thought you were dead, Aurelia. It was a cruel joke by fate. I won't let you face danger again. I..." he started.
Aurelia put her hands on his chest, trying to push him away.
"Marcus, back off, or I'll call for help," she warned.
Marcus adjusted his glasses, took a step back, and leaned against the sink. "Sorry, I scared you. Maybe I miss her too much. Even your scared look is just like hers. We watched the Northern Lights in an igloo in Scandinavia, skydived in South America, skied in South Asia, and traveled to the most romantic places. But she still left me forever. When I first saw you, I thought you were her, coming from another dimension to find me. I still believe that. You came to find me, but you just forgot your past life."
Marcus tilted his head back, his throat moving slightly, his eyes red, looking completely shattered.
"It doesn't matter if you forgot me. I'll help you remember, or we'll go through it all again. You can't understand how I felt seeing you with Nathaniel at the Heilbronn Villa. I was insanely jealous. You were supposed to be my wife, yet you were in my nephew's bed. I even thought about burning down that villa! You said you'd love only me forever. Why didn't you keep your promise?"
As he spoke, the veins on his arms bulged, his emotions barely contained.
Aurelia took a deep breath and bolted from the bathroom.
She'd never seen Marcus like this before. Beneath his calm exterior was a wild, repressed heart.
She couldn't imagine what would happen if she stayed in that small space with him. The Marcus she saw was just the tip of the iceberg; the rest might be darker than she could ever imagine.
Aurelia ran back to her seat, her heart pounding like crazy.
"Ulysses, is it almost over?" she asked, trying to steady her voice.
"Just the finale left, it's the AquaChic brand under the Heilbronn Group, the highlight of the show. Lots of media are waiting to take pictures," Ulysses replied.
Her heart skipped a beat at the mention of 'AquaChic.'
Thinking back, when she and Ulysses accidentally wandered into Marcus's shop, every outfit she tried on seemed made for her. Ulysses had joked that she had a common body type, and any clothes would fit her well.
Now, it was clear it wasn't a coincidence at all.
"Ulysses, Oscar, you guys keep watching the show. I'm not feeling well, so I'm heading back," she said.
Ulysses turned to look at her, seeing her pale face. He could tell she wasn't feeling well.
"I'll take you home," he offered.
"No need. Don't forget the media interview later. It's a great exposure opportunity; don't waste it. The car I called is almost here," she insisted.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Ulysses asked, still worried.
"I'm fine. I'll just rest a bit when I get home," she assured him.
Ulysses watched her get into the car before heading back inside.
As soon as Aurelia got home, Jacoba's video call came through.
"Mommy, Uncle Joe took away my computer. Can you help me get it back?" Jacoba asked.
Aurelia took a deep breath, trying to keep her cool so Jacob wouldn't worry. The kid was sharp; nothing got past him.
"Jacob, why did Joe take your computer? Did you get into trouble again?" she asked.
Jacob's eyes darted around, then he quickly denied it.
"No, Mommy. You told me not to mess with other people's websites, and I've been good. But now I need the computer to configure a robot, and Uncle Joe won't give it to me," he whined.
Just then, Joe's voice came through the phone. "Jacob, who are you talking to?"
Jacob's tone changed instantly, trying to butter up Joe. "Uncle, you're done for the day! You must be so tired! I'm talking to Mommy, I won't disturb your rest, I'm going upstairs!"
Jacob grabbed the phone and dashed upstairs, locking the door behind him. It looked like he was being considerate, but really, he was just avoiding Joe.
Joe had been keeping a close eye on him lately, not letting him near the computer and even monitoring his calls. What a pain!
"Mommy, I want my computer. Can you help me?" he pleaded.
Aurelia looked at Jacob on the screen, both amused and a bit exasperated. This little guy rarely acted spoiled, and now a computer had him begging.
"I'll talk to Joe and see if he'll give it back," she said.
Jacob shrugged and said, "Please, my dear Mommy."
After hanging up, Aurelia pondered for a moment, 'Joe isn't usually this strict. If he confiscated the computer, Jacob must have messed up big time.'
She called Joe, and he picked up right away.
"Joe, why'd you take Jacob's computer?" she asked.
Joe sounded irritated. "Didn't your genius son tell you what trouble he caused?"
Aurelia sat up, nervous. "Joe, what did Jacob do? I told Dahlia to watch him and not let him run around. Did he go out to play?"
Joe snorted. "What he did was way worse than just playing. He somehow ticked off a hacker online, and they came after him. My company's access control system got hacked and was down for a whole day. The security team found a message from the hacker, warning J that if it happened again, they'd expose nude photos of me online! As for what exactly Jacob did to provoke them, I couldn't get a word out of him. The little rascal is just as difficult as his father!"
The more Joe talked, the angrier he got. He downed a glass of water but still couldn't calm down.
"Joe, did it cause any damage to the company?" she asked.
"Nothing else so far, just the access control system," he said.
Joe refilled his glass and stood by the window. Jacob hacking into other systems wasn't new, and though Joe was mad, it wasn't the main reason for his frustration.
What really got him was Jacob's father, Nathaniel, that scoundrel.
Nathaniel had sabotaged his Imperick project, halting his already launched project and snatching away a piece of land he was about to acquire.
Nathaniel, a jewelry businessman, had come to steal it, clearly intending to oppose him. This behavior was like declaring war.
But he didn't dare tell Aurelia about this. He tried to avoid mentioning Nathaniel to her. That scoundrel, he'd deal with him sooner or later.
Aurelia looked apologetic. "Joe, before I come back, please keep an eye on Jacob and don't let him cause any more trouble. Don't give him the computer back!"
'A child provokes hackers online—this time, they found Joe's company. What if next time, they find their home or the kindergarten?' Aurelia shuddered at the thought.
