Chapter 502 Indeed Sisters
Cathy had already heard the news over in Coral Bay.
She'd been worried all night, unable to sleep, constantly checking the weather forecast, hoping for a sunny day tomorrow. Aurelia was bringing back the heart, and her daughter would finally have a complete body.
She had consulted professionals to calculate the best time to open the grave and had set everything up. Now all that was left was for Aurelia's plane to arrive.
Joe's private jet landed just outside the cemetery.
Nathaniel carried a portable cooler in his arms, and Aurelia was walking beside him. They hadn't walked far when they saw Cathy approaching with determined steps, her urgency palpable even from a distance.
"Grandma," Aurelia called out, quickening her pace.
Cathy was already in tears, clutching the cooler and sobbing uncontrollably. "My daughter, your heart has finally come back. Now, I'll put it back for you. I hope in your next life, you'll be more guarded and won't fall for bad men again."
Aurelia sniffled, her nose stinging. "Grandma, it's all back now. It's all back."
In this world, what belongs to someone will eventually return to them. You shouldn't fight for what isn't yours, whether it's a person or a heart.
Cathy wiped her face, quickly regaining her composure. She had been through a lot in her life.
Nathaniel offered, "This is a bit heavy. Let me carry it."
Cathy didn't resist. Though she hadn't fully accepted him, she felt less resentment towards him after this ordeal.
"Someone is waiting ahead. Let's hurry."
Aurelia supported her grandmother, with a family servant by their side, while Nathaniel led the way. The four of them headed towards Brenda's grave.
As they walked, Cathy asked Aurelia about the recent events. "Aurelia, the police came today and took away a doctor named Fan."
Aurelia had been so busy she almost forgot Rosalind had been kneeling at the cemetery for days. "Grandma, she's a bad person with no medical ethics. I almost died at her hands when I was born."
Cathy's voice trembled as she wiped her eyes. "It's all because of that devil, Norman. What did he do to my daughter?"
She couldn't bear to think about it. Whenever she did, it led to nights of nightmares, with Brenda covered in blood, crying out in pain.
If it weren't for Norman, none of this would have happened. She should have stopped her daughter from following him.
Aurelia had kept many things from her grandmother, fearing she couldn't handle the truth. She only shared what she thought Cathy could accept. "Grandma, I have no blood relation to Norman. My mom had twins, and my sister was sent abroad. She's the one I mentioned recently, Burry."
Cathy sobbed, "I told Joe to bring the child back, but he insisted on waiting for the test results. Now, she's already here."
"Grandma, everything will be resolved one step at a time. Don't worry."
They reached the grave. Nathaniel set the cooler down and knelt to pay his respects.
Several people were gathered at the grave, including servants from the Semona family and a priest, Emeric Vosskühler, whom Cathy had called.
"Emeric, this heart has been in a bad person's body for years. Please help cleanse it."
Emeric, an elderly man with a two-inch beard, replied, "It needs purification."
He took out some tools from his bag and began a ritual, muttering under his breath.
Everyone watched in silence, the atmosphere solemn and respectful.
After a while, Emeric stood up, having completed the ritual. "The aura has been cleansed. I hope the original owner won't reject her own heart."
Cathy's eyes were still wet. "Good, good. Should we open the grave at night?"
Emeric replied, "Wait until sunset."
Aurelia checked the time. "Grandma, you've been here a long time. Do you want to rest in the car? I'll call you when it's time."
Cathy sat by the grave, gently wiping the photo on the tombstone. "I'm not going anywhere. I'll stay with Brenda. She was always close to me, even in high school. She'd look for me when it rained, when she had nightmares, and the first thing she'd do after school was call for me. My child, my precious..."
Cathy's voice was hoarse from crying.
Aurelia felt a pang of sorrow. "Grandma, please drink some water. Don't make yourself sick."
Nathaniel handed Cathy a bottle of water. She accepted it but didn't drink.
"You did well this time. I'll believe you care for Aurelia. But you won't be accepted into the Semona family just yet. I'll be watching you."
Nathaniel knelt to meet her gaze. "Grandma, please drink. Your voice is hoarse."
After a long afternoon, night finally fell.
This was the second time Brenda's grave was opened. The first was to bring her home, and now, to return her heart.
The heart, preserved perfectly, was taken from the cooler and placed in the coffin. As the earth covered it, Cathy felt a sense of peace.
This painful chapter had a resolution. She had finally returned what belonged to her daughter.
On the way back, Nathaniel's phone rang. The test results confirming Aurelia and Burry as sisters had come in. But with Rosalind's confession, it was already certain.
The car was silent. Nathaniel turned to Cathy. "Grandma, I'll bring Burry back. Don't worry."
Hope flickered in Cathy's eyes. "We must find her. We must."
Back in the city, Nathaniel got out first. He was worried about his grandfather and hailed a cab home.
At the apartment, he took the elevator to his grandfather's floor and unlocked the door with his fingerprint.
The living room was dimly lit, with Marcus watching a muted TV.
"Where's Grandpa?"
Marcus whispered, "He's sick. Just fell asleep. Don't wake him."
