Chapter 168 He Will Never Meddle with Her Business!

Aurelia woke up and saw the familiar room and Betty smiling at her. "What time is it?" she asked.

"1:30 PM. You've been out for over three hours," Betty replied, handing her some warm water.

Aurelia remembered Nathaniel carrying her back. She looked around but didn't see him, which was a relief.

Betty smiled, "Mr. Heilbronn had an urgent business, so he asked me to help you cool down. Let's take your temperature. If the fever's gone, no need to cool down."

Aurelia felt better but noticed she was sweaty and her clothes were sticking to her. She lifted the covers and saw she was in a nightgown, blushing because she didn't remember changing.

Betty, unaware of her thoughts, said, "Mrs. Heilbronn, please take your temperature."

Aurelia took the thermometer and confirmed her fever was gone.

Betty smiled, "You're recovering well. Hungry? I'll get some oatmeal."

Meanwhile, Nathaniel was in an important meeting when his phone rang. He answered, "Betty, how is she?"

After Nathaniel heard the response, his expression darkened, making the room tense. Nathaniel said, "Let it be," and tossed his phone on the table, leaving everyone silent.

He thought to himself that if he kept caring about Aurelia, he was just a damn fool.

The rest of the meeting didn't go well. Everyone got scolded, and the proposals were criticized as worthless.

Zack was sweating, wondering what Aurelia had done to piss Nathaniel off this time, knowing they, the employees, would suffer.

Aurelia changed clothes and took a cab to her rented house when she received a threatening message: [Slut! You'll see. If you have the guts, never step out again.]

The tone matched Maria's and Chelsea's, so she suspected them. Alarmed, Aurelia contacted a bodyguard from Marcus and headed to her place.

At home, she sent the number to Timothy to check if it was Maria or Chelsea's burner. Minutes later, Timothy called. "Aurelia, you were right. It's Maria's number."

"Has she been up to anything?" Aurelia asked.

"She's been hanging out with a man named Adam Price. I'm still trying to figure out any plots they are up to. Should we watch her?"

"Yes, keep an eye on her." After hanging up, Aurelia sent Timothy some money labeled 'hard work bonus.'

Across the window, a man watched everything, listening to his assistant's report. "Mr. Semona, the two men following Ms. Semona were bodyguards. It was a misunderstanding."

Joe took a drag from his cigarette and exhaled a cloud of smoke. "Explain."

"They were hired to protect her. Our people assumed they were criminals," the assistant said.

Joe raised an eyebrow, surprised. "Release them immediately and make sure they keep their mouth shut."

"Yes, Mr. Semona!" The assistant didn't leave after speaking. Joe, still holding his cigarette, asked, "Anything else?"

The assistant cleared his throat, bracing himself for the heavy news. "Mr. Semona, we found something."

"Go on," Joe said.

"Your aunt Brenda signed for an organ donation before she died. Her heart went to the daughter of Norman and his lover. Her death might not have been as simple as a car accident." The assistant's voice got lower, and he feared Joe's fury.

Joe's face hardened. He crushed his cigarette and threw it into the ashtray. "What makes a bastard daughter worthy of my aunt's heart?"

The assistant trembled. "We don't have solid proof yet. Either the culprit is good at covering their tracks, or it was just an accident."

Joe sneered, clearly not buying the accident story. "Keep a close eye on Chelsea and Maria!"

At the hospital, Chelsea and Maria were chatting in the ward, unaware they were being watched.

Chelsea, leaning against the bed, was eating fruit. Nathaniel had someone with her 24/7, supposedly for care but really for surveillance. He only allowed Norman and his wife to visit for an hour each day, like scheduled family visits.

Chelsea was frustrated. "Dad, Mom, how about I get discharged tomorrow? I'll say I'm feeling better. I can't stand being cooped up; it's driving me crazy."

Norman was worried about handling the specialist Nathaniel arranged. They still needed a plan, and time was running out. If they didn't act soon, they'd face serious trouble.

Maria, somehow calm, fed Chelsea fruit. "Chelsea, I heard eating grapes during pregnancy makes the baby's eyes big."

Chelsea, with her mouth full, said, "Mom, the grapes you bought today are really sweet."

Norman, frustrated, said, "Stop eating and think about what to do."

Chelsea wiped her mouth. "Dad, when Nathaniel brings in the specialist, you can arrange for an accident to happen to him. It shouldn't be that hard."

Maria smiled. "Just take care of yourself. I have got it covered." She didn't elaborate but assured Chelsea she had everything under control. As a mother, she'd handle it, even if the men couldn't.

Norman sneered, "Do you think Nathaniel is a fool? He went to great lengths to bring in a specialist from Melicia; he won't let anything happen to him easily."

Chelsea realized how serious the situation was. "Dad, what should we do?"

Nathaniel wasn't easily fooled, and she felt her days of peace were numbered. The constant care and special treatment were reminders that when the truth came out, she'd have to pay it all back—and maybe more.

Knowing Nathaniel's methods and his hatred for deceit, she shuddered at the thought. "Dad, you need to come up with something."
