Chapter 293 Peeking
Aurelia glanced at the guys still deep in their game, trying to think of a way to dodge Marcus's stare.
Nathaniel showing up out of nowhere made her feel a bit more relaxed.
"Let's go, I'll help you with the medicine," she said.
He was too shy to admit he was suffering, so she gave him an out.
Perfect timing, she wanted to leave anyway.
Nathaniel's eyes lit up, and he jumped to his feet.
"Aurelia, let's go," he said.
Zack went quiet.
Aurelia's words always worked. In this world, the only thing that could calm Nathaniel down was Aurelia.
They walked side by side, with Zack trailing behind, packing up the nanny bag and putting away the stuff he had just taken out.
As they walked, Aurelia texted Patrick, saying she had something to do and would treat him to dinner another day.
They quickly reached the parking lot. Zack got in the driver's seat, waited for Nathaniel and Aurelia to get in, and started the car.
Nathaniel felt unbearably itchy. He unbuttoned the top button of his shirt and scratched his neck lightly. The discomfort was torturous, restrained yet unbearable.
Zack glanced at the rearview mirror and said, "Mr. Heilbronn, the ointment is in the bag. Why don't you apply it now?"
Nathaniel looked at Aurelia with a hopeful expression, saying, "Aurelia, can you help me?"
Aurelia leaned away towards the window and said, "Mr. Heilbronn, given our current relationship, it's not appropriate. You should ask someone else."
Nathaniel tried again, saying, "Didn't you help me with the medicine yesterday? Besides, it's just the three of us in the car, and he's driving. Only you can help me."
He seemed more like a timid husband than a domineering CEO.
Aurelia paused and said, "When did I help you with the medicine?"
"Wasn't it you last night? Your hands were a bit cold, and you even took off my pants."
Aurelia said in shock, "Who took off your pants?"
Nathaniel hesitated, saying, "Wasn't it you?"
Zack, driving, felt a chill down his spine. He had followed Aurelia's instructions to help Nathaniel with the medicine, but he didn't expect Mr. Heilbronn to mistake him for Aurelia in his dazed state.
He had pulled down Nathaniel's pants, which was as dangerous as poking a sleeping bear. This was truly a dangerous job!
"Mr. Heilbronn, I helped you with the medicine yesterday."
Zack's voice trembled, lacking confidence.
After he spoke, the car fell silent, and a strange atmosphere silently spread.
For Zack, it was like mental torture. He wondered if the 10% bonus Nathaniel promised him at the court would be forfeited because of this incident.
Even if the CEO scolded him now, it would be better than this silence.
Nathaniel leaned back with a defeated look. He had thought it was Aurelia who helped him last night, but now he couldn't process this fact. Although he was groggy last night, he cooperated fully, thinking it was her.
Since their reunion, Aurelia had been distant and cold. The thought of her personally applying the medicine made Nathaniel very happy, thinking she still cared for him.
Turned out his happiness was all a misunderstanding!
The rash on his neck itched again. He scratched it absentmindedly, not controlling his strength, leaving two red marks. But this was only a temporary relief; it felt even itchier afterward.
Aurelia felt a bit sorry for him and handed him a small pack of tissues from her bag and said, "Stop scratching, it's already bleeding."
Nathaniel was pretty bummed out but didn't resist when she handed him the tissues. He took one and dabbed at his wound.
Aurelia dug through the nanny bag, found the ointment Dr. Carter had prescribed, and handed it to him.
"You should put this on. For the spots you can't reach, let Zack help you later."
Nathaniel felt a pang of bitterness and wanted to ask why she couldn't help him. But he swallowed his words. Holding the ointment, he asked after a moment, "Will you peek?"
Aurelia was both amused and annoyed. It sounded like he was afraid she'd see something. She remembered how he had asked Dr. Carter if he needed to take off his pants in front of her last night.
She turned her face towards the window. The next left turn would lead to Nathaniel's house, while her home was in the opposite direction.
"Don't worry, I promise I won't peek. If you're really worried, I'll sit in the front and raise the car's divider. I'll get off at the next tree-lined road."
Nathaniel didn't say anything more. His slender fingers began unbuttoning his shirt one by one. Once all the buttons were undone, he took it off and placed it between them, then started applying the medicine as if no one else was there.
Aurelia kept her eyes glued to the window, afraid of being accused of peeking.
The car fell silent, and a few minutes passed.
"Aurelia!" he called out.
Aurelia reflexively turned her head at the call, and Nathaniel's lean upper body came into view. Her pupils widened, and she quickly turned back to the window. He had just called her name, and she didn't have time to think.
As soon as she turned her head, she heard Nathaniel's aggrieved voice from behind, "Aurelia, you promised not to peek."
Aurelia held her forehead, feeling it was a trap.
"Sorry, it wasn't intentional," she said.
Nathaniel asked again, "I can't reach my back. Can you help me?"
Just then, the phone rang. Nathaniel glanced at it and answered. Reed's angry face appeared on the screen.
"Where have you been? I heard from the company that you haven't been there for two days," Reed barked.
After his outburst, Reed noticed his grandson was shirtless with many red spots on his body. Reed's temper flared up again,
"You fool! Did you go somewhere and catch a bad disease? I'm so disappointed!"
Nathaniel looked at himself and felt embarrassed. What was Reed thinking? Did his grandfather think so poorly of him?
"Grandpa!" he called out helplessly and explained, "I have a rash from an allergy, not what you're thinking!"
Reed's expression softened. If Nathaniel had really caught a bad disease from fooling around, he would be completely ruined.
"I'm at your house now. You aren't at the office either. Where are you? Come back quickly, I have something to say," he said.
Nathaniel leaned back, adjusted the phone's angle, and deliberately let Aurelia appear briefly on the screen,
"Grandpa, I'm on my way back. You can go inside first. The password is our wedding anniversary."
Reed snorted and said, "I think you should set the password to your divorce anniversary to remind yourself that you're a man without a wife. That way, you won't forget to repent every day for how badly you treated your wife. You're almost forty and still wandering around. If I were you, I'd hurry up and win my wife back."
Nathaniel listened to the scolding in silence, wondering if his grandfather hadn't noticed.
He adjusted the angle again, letting Aurelia appear on the screen for two seconds.
