Chapter 166 Pregnant Women Should Not Take Medicine Casually
Aurelia tensed up. "I'll go on my own. You get busy on your business."
"I'm not busy," Nathaniel replied.
Reed chimed in, "Why not let him help? Those long legs aren't just for show."
Aurelia went silent and left the ward, with Nathaniel following, ready to help.
She glanced back, not wanting to boss Nathaniel around. "I can handle this. You really don't need to come. Go do your thing," she whispered. Before she could finish, she sneezed twice.
Nathaniel laughed. "Stop wasting time; we could've been done by now. If I don't come, Grandpa will be mad."
He led the way to the elevator, and this time, Aurelia followed.
"I didn't tell on you," she said.
Nathaniel shrugged. "I don't blame you."
Aurelia thought about it. 'I don't blame you' meant he still believed she had told, but he was letting it slide.
She chuckled, "I really didn't tell Grandpa. I don't know how he found out about our divorce."
Nathaniel paused. He thought she meant not telling Grandpa about him not accompanying her to see a doctor, but now, she was talking about the divorce. He hadn't considered that anyway.
"Grandpa's sharp. It's no surprise he figured it out," Nathaniel said.
Reed had built his empire from scratch; despite his age, he was still sharp and not easily fooled. Nathaniel had expected this.
Seeing Nathaniel unfazed, Aurelia decided to drop it.
When they reached the clinic, Aurelia stopped, unsure of how to send him away. She scratched her head, frustrated.
Before she could say anything, she sneezed again, feeling dizzy and lightheaded.
Nathaniel frowned and quickly joined the queue at the registration window.
Aurelia stood outside the line, watching his tall figure. She couldn't help but imagine how nice it would be if he had come for her prenatal check-ups.
If she remembered right, this was the first time he had come to the hospital with her. In their three years of marriage, she had been sick before. Once, with acute appendicitis, she called him, but he hung up and didn't show up. It was the maid who called 911 and took her to the hospital. However, Nathaniel never visited during her stay.
Thinking about this, she looked up, trying to hold back tears.
Nathaniel got the number and showed her the ticket, snapping her back to reality. They headed to the internal medicine clinic.
Aurelia thought it was just a common cold and a few meds would do the trick. She didn't expect to get a fever. Maybe her pregnancy had changed things. She rarely got fevers before; usually, some cold pills and a good night's sleep were enough.
After checking her temperature, she stared blankly at the thermometer that showed a high fever of 102.2°F. She didn't dare mention her pregnancy in front of Nathaniel.
The doctor prescribed several medications and asked them to pay. Aurelia glanced at the doctor and weakly asked Nathaniel, "Can I wait here?"
Her pitiful look softened Nathaniel's heart. He thought the perfectly fine villa had been abandoned for no reason, causing her to get sick, and now he had to take care of her.
"Wait here," he said before leaving. Once he was gone, Aurelia quietly asked the doctor, "Doctor, can pregnant women take these meds?"
The doctor's face stiffened. "Why didn't you mention it earlier? Pregnant women shouldn't take meds casually, and the ones I prescribed are definitely off-limits!"
Aurelia begged the doctor to lower his voice, worried that might bring Nathaniel back. "Doctor, please prescribe something safe. I'll go pay now."
The doctor shook his head and re-prescribed some meds, reminding her, "Stay hydrated and have regular check-ups. I've given you a fever-reducing med safe for pregnancy, along with physical cooling methods. Get the fever down first, and if you feel unwell, seek medical attention immediately. Don't tough it out."
Aurelia nodded. Just then, Nathaniel returned with a large bag of medicine.
"Doctor, is this all the medicine we need?" He was holding quite a lot because it was two sets.
Aurelia's mind went blank as she stared at the doctor, her heart pounding. Just when she thought her secret might be exposed, the doctor glanced at her and said yes, not saying anything else.
Aurelia silently thanked the doctor a thousand times as she left the consultation room, feeling grateful.
She saw Nathaniel carrying a large bag of meds and guessed he had paid for everything.
Nathaniel slowed his pace to match hers as they walked through the corridor.
Feeling increasingly dizzy and tired, Aurelia felt like her head was heavy and her steps unsteady. She wanted to sit down whenever she saw a bench.
Nathaniel stood in front of her, noticing her flushed face. It was no wonder he had noticed her abnormal skin color earlier; she had a fever of 102.2°F.
Poor thing!
He dropped his arrogant demeanor. "Feeling very uncomfortable?" he asked.
Aurelia was too weak to speak and just nodded.
Nathaniel sighed, then bent down and lifted her in his arms, striding towards the staircase.
Aurelia was taken aback, feeling weightless and momentarily dizzy, even a bit nauseous. She didn't have the strength to struggle, so she leaned against his chest.
Nathaniel carried her directly to the car, and this time, Zack didn't dare pretend to be asleep. Instead, he stood at attention like a soldier.
"Let's go back to Bloom Villa," Nathaniel instructed.
Aurelia was jostled along the way, drifting in and out of sleep.
