Chapter 343 Someone Has Their Eyes on His Wife
Dorothy showed no interest in Nathaniel's questions; she seemed more interested in the cat her godfather was holding. “Godfather, will our other cats get lost if we leave them in the car?”
Oscar straightened his neck proudly upon hearing the word "godfather," flaunting in front of Nathaniel. 'Serves you right, now your own daughter calls me godfather and doesn't even call you dad!'
Nathaniel felt deeply saddened but had to endure it in front of Dorothy .
“Dorothy, if you're worried about the other cats, how about we bring them all down?” Nathaniel asked.
Only then did Dorothy pay attention to him, smiling with her eyes squinting. “Great!”
Nathaniel stood up and waved to the receptionist. “Get two people to go to the parking lot and move the cats.”
He had seen the photos Oscar took and knew there were quite a few cats in the car, but the receptionist didn't know. When she got to the underground parking lot and saw nine cats meowing at her, she quickly called her colleagues for help.
After moving all the cats up, Nathaniel's office practically turned into a cattery.
Nathaniel wasn't particularly fond of these little creatures.
The kittens ran all over his office, leaving paw prints on his computer, sofa, and executive chair.
Zack came in to deliver some documents and was wide-eyed at the sight of the cats jumping around. The surprising part was that Nathaniel wasn't even angry. He still remembered when someone from the HR department brought a cat to the office, and it bit the leaves of the money tree in the lobby. What did Mr. Heilbronn say back then?
He had thrown a huge fit, scolding people and saying the company wasn't a zoo and that keeping a cat would affect everyone's work.
The HR colleague was fined and warned, and immediately took the cat home without any delay.
Now, there were ten cats wreaking havoc on his desk, and he could still smile?
Zack paused to report the morning's work schedule. “Mr. Heilbronn, the lunch meeting with the partner's CEO is set, the private room is booked, and we will leave in an hour. In ten minutes, you have a regular meeting, and the design department's proposal needs your review.”
Nathaniel was helping Dorothy open a can of cat food and replied without looking up, “Postpone everything.”
“Understood.” Zack was taken aback, then exited the office and closed the door.
Inside the office, Oscar had already started collecting Nathaniel's figurines. He had been eyeing them for a long time, offering various things in exchange, but Nathaniel never agreed.
Who would have thought it would be so easy to get those little trinkets now? He was frantically packing them into a bag, and Nathaniel didn't even seem to care, letting him take them.
After packing up his desired figurines, Oscar sat in Nathaniel's executive chair, spinning around leisurely. “Dorothy, I think it's time to go home. Your mommy specifically reminded us to go home right after buying the cats.”
Dorothy remembered what her mommy said before they left and nodded obediently. “Godfather, let's take the cats home.”
Nathaniel gave Oscar a wounded look, feeling like his own daughter was now more like Oscar's child. Spending time with his own kid, he still had to consider Oscar's feelings.
Oscar couldn't resist that look and relented after a few seconds. “Alright, alright, let's have lunch together first, and then go home. Don't look at me like that; you're not my type.”
They stayed in the office for a while longer, and Oscar called his restaurant to specifically request some kid-friendly food.
They left the cats in the office and drove straight to the restaurant.
Nathaniel had to give up a room full of figurines just to get Dorothy to ride in his car.
Meanwhile, Aurelia was busy and overwhelmed.
She had just submitted her design, finally completing it without missing the deadline. The rest of her time was spent buried in financial statements.
The company's records were a mess, and many accounts needed verification. There were numerous issues that required immediate attention. She now realized how challenging it was to run a company. Reflecting on how Nathaniel spent long hours at the office and then continued working in his study at home, she felt she still had a lot to learn.
In the afternoon, Aurelia received a message from Marcus: [Aurelia, I've arranged everything. You should be ready by now, right? We'll leave the day after tomorrow.]
Along with the text, Marcus sent a screenshot of his booked flight information.
Aurelia didn't know how he got her passport information. Since their last meeting, Marcus hadn't contacted her, and she had almost forgotten about it.
Seeing the message, Aurelia was taking a break to drink water and ended up choking.
Aurelia remembered asking Norman during a prison visit if Brenda had any other children. This whole thing was very strange. Aurelia had her suspicions, wondering if there was another sister who looked so much like her that Marcus mistook her for someone else.
But Norman's answer was negative.
Aurelia stared at her phone, regretting not sending the two kids back with their uncle first. Now, Marcus was a dangerous presence for her.
It wasn't that she feared he would harm her; Marcus gave her the impression of a pathological obsession. He insisted on taking her to Elvenia, completely ignoring her objections, and had even booked the tickets.
Feeling uneasy, Aurelia sent a screenshot of the message to Nathaniel.
Nathaniel received the message while still in the office playing with Dorothy and the cats.
Oscar had already been kicked out, leaving just the father and daughter. He had postponed all the less urgent work for the afternoon to enjoy this rare parent-child time.
Seeing Aurelia's message, he frowned.
During the family visit to the cemetery in the morning, he hadn't noticed anything unusual about Marcus. This guy was quietly planning to take Aurelia away.
What a lunatic!
Nathaniel never took Marcus's actions in the company seriously. He had the situation under control and never saw Marcus as a threat. But when it came to Aurelia, he couldn't tolerate it.
Nathaniel dialed Zack's extension. “What has Marcus been up to lately?”
Zack, who had someone nearby and couldn't speak freely, knocked on the office door within a minute. “Mr. Heilbronn, Marcus hasn't made any moves recently. The senior executives he had been trying to win over haven't been in contact for a while. He's handed over many of his deals to his assistant and has been frequently calling several overseas numbers.”
Nathaniel found it odd. It seemed like Marcus was giving up on the family business and planning to retire. This behavior started when he found out Aurelia was still alive.
What exactly was he planning?
