Chapter 359 A Jealous Nathaniel
Zack, in his excitement, revealed today's plan in full.
"Mr. Heilbronn, I plan to take my wife shopping after work, have dinner, watch a movie, and then we've booked a romantic hotel for the night."
At this point, Zack felt a bit embarrassed.
Nathaniel's face froze when he heard the keyword "romantic hotel."
He thought about how Oscar's family had a similar business, but it was high-end and not affordable for the average person. He figured he could ask about it sometime in the future.
Nathaniel glanced at his watch; there were still two hours left until the end of the workday, and he didn't have anything else for Zack to do.
"You can leave work now."
Zack was pleasantly surprised; the last time he got off work this early was two years ago.
"Mr. Heilbronn, should I leave now?" Zack asked tentatively.
Seeing his boss nod, he quickly made his escape, afraid he might be called back the next second.
Once Zack left, Nathaniel called his two kids over, jingling his car keys.
"Daddy's off work now. Is there anywhere you two want to go or anything you want to do?"
Nathaniel was ready to take the kids out, but to his surprise, they didn't care about him at all.
Jacoba said, "I just want to see Mommy."
Dorothy added, "If Mommy's not coming, I don't want to go anywhere."
Nathaniel smiled helplessly.
"Of course, we'll bring Mommy. I just wanted to ask for your opinions first. The three of you can decide by majority rule, okay?"
Hearing him say that, the kids' attitudes softened, and they said in unison, "We'll listen to Mommy."
Alright, the final decision was left to Aurelia.
Nathaniel stood up from his office chair. "Let's go find Mommy now."
"Yay!"
He held each child's hand and walked downstairs under the employees' gazes. In the lobby, he saw the robot standing guard. Nathaniel instructed a nearby security guard, "Move this robot to my car!"
Jacoba suddenly felt like she was walking on air, and she started hopping as she walked. Nathaniel glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, smiling as he happily led the kids to the car.
Meanwhile, Aurelia's employees were lining up to receive flowers.
Each female employee got a rose and a cup of milk tea, but there were no gifts for the male colleagues.
Aurelia had been busy all day with meetings, business matters, and handling issues from Coral Bay Karma Jewelry. She was so swamped that she had no time or interest in the flowers.
Patrick returned with a cup of water and stood at her desk.
"Aurelia, why didn't you go get a flower?"
Aurelia looked up briefly before returning to her work.
"Let the young girls have them. I won't compete with them."
Patrick took a sip from his teacup.
"That's not right. Every female employee gets one; it's a company benefit, and you're part of the company too."
As he spoke, Patrick's assistant knocked and entered, placing a bouquet of white roses on Aurelia's desk.
"Mr. Semona, should I arrange these flowers for you?"
Aurelia glanced at the bouquet—nine white roses, full and fragrant, her favorite kind. She clearly remembered that the employees' flowers were pink, and hers were different, with nine roses.
At this point, the assistant joked with Patrick, "If it weren't for Patrick buying us flowers out of his own pocket, we single folks would just be left feeling envious of everyone else."
Hearing this, Aurelia finally understood the implication.
"You can go back to work now."
The assistant left, thoughtfully closing the office door behind her.
Aurelia tidied up her work and looked up to see Patrick still standing there, drinking water, his eyes on the white roses.
"Patrick, do you like white?"
Patrick nodded in approval.
"White is solemn and pure. Who wouldn't like it?"
"Patrick, why not buy white tulips next time? They better represent friendship."
Aurelia didn't spell it out to avoid awkwardness, but her rejection was clear.
Patrick, thick-skinned, didn't mind and continued drinking his water.
"It's just a small employee benefit. I didn't think much of it. Next time there's a holiday, you can buy the flowers."
He smoothly changed the subject.
Just then, Aurelia's phone rang. Seeing it was Dorothy calling, she answered immediately, hearing Dorothy's voice.
"Mommy, we're here to pick you up from work."
Aurelia checked the time; it wasn't the end of the workday yet.
"Is Daddy off work already?"
"Yes."
"Mommy still has some things to finish. Can you wait for me?"
"Okay."
After hanging up, Aurelia sped up her work. Gabriel had come to sign a contract today and had prepaid, with the funds already in the account.
Initially, Aurelia was worried the company wouldn't survive this financial crisis, but with these big orders, the immediate operational difficulties were perfectly resolved.
Downstairs, Nathaniel and the kids waited for a few minutes and got a bit bored.
"Why don't we go up and wait?" Nathaniel suggested.
The kids eagerly agreed.
So, less than ten minutes after hanging up, Nathaniel appeared in Patrick's office with the two kids.
Aurelia was relieved that they hadn't fought today. The kids were happy, and Nathaniel seemed to be doing better as a father.
Dorothy ran over and clung to Aurelia's leg.
"Mommy, Daddy said he's taking us to celebrate the holiday."
Aurelia couldn't help but look up, seeing Nathaniel's gaze fixed on the bouquet of flowers on her desk.
The bouquet was too eye-catching; Nathaniel noticed it as soon as he walked in. Knowing she liked white roses, he felt a pang of jealousy seeing another man had taken the time to learn her preferences.
After all, he had given others the opportunity.
"Dorothy, didn't you say you wanted to take a bath with rose petals the other day?" Nathaniel said.
Dorothy looked at Nathaniel in confusion, trying to remember when she had said that.
Before Dorothy could say anything, Nathaniel walked over and picked up the bouquet.
"Daddy will hold this for you."
Aurelia knew how easily this man got jealous. If they weren't divorced, he might have lost his temper right there instead of using Dorothy as an excuse.
She put away her unfinished work. Given the current situation, she couldn't focus, and staying longer would be a waste of time.
Aurelia shut down her computer, and Nathaniel, perceptive as ever, took her bag. Just like last time, he carried her small bag through the busiest part of the office, making it hard for anyone not to suspect he was doing it on purpose.
With his looks and height, he was already the most eye-catching person just standing there, and now he was being so ostentatious, naturally drawing the office employees' attention.
Downstairs, Nathaniel casually tossed the bouquet into the trunk, scattering a few petals in the process.
Aurelia glared at him, annoyed.
"Stop taking your anger out on my flowers."
Nathaniel, still jealous, grabbed Aurelia's wrist and pulled her to the back of the car.
"You like white roses, right? We have them at home too. There's no need for anyone else to buy them for you."
