Chapter 485 Nathaniel Benefits Again
Nathaniel leaned against his car, sipping on a cup of milk tea. He looked pretty eager as he waited for Aurelia to come out.
Joe didn't even glance up and told the driver, "Just drive over."
Aurelia, holding her phone, hesitated before saying, "Joe, I was thinking maybe we could all have dinner together sometime."
Joe, eyes on the latest marketing report on his phone, replied flatly, "No time."
Even if he had the time, he wouldn't want to have dinner with Nathaniel.
Aurelia didn't dare push it further. She turned slightly to check the rearview mirror and saw Nathaniel's car tailing them closely.
The car came to a slow stop, and the driver turned around to report, "Mr. Semona, there's an accident up ahead causing a three-mile jam. It'll take about forty minutes to get through. The project you have this morning can't be delayed. If we head back to the office now, we can still make it. Should we...?"
Joe checked his watch, frowning. Without the traffic jam, he could drop Aurelia off at her office and then head back to his own just in time. But with this delay, it was cutting it close.
Aurelia tentatively asked again, "Joe, you go ahead. I can call a cab?"
Joe knew exactly which cab she meant. There was no other option at the moment. He looked displeased but didn't say anything, which was as good as agreeing.
Aurelia grabbed her bag and opened the door. "Joe, you go ahead. I'll leave now."
Joe still didn't want to speak, letting Nathaniel benefit again.
Aurelia got into Nathaniel's car, and he handed her a warm cup of milk tea. They watched as the car in front turned off the congested road and drove in the opposite direction.
Nathaniel smiled and asked, "How'd you get Joe to let you ride with me again?"
Aurelia took a sip of the milk tea, still strawberry-flavored, "Joe's got something urgent this morning. He didn't have time. Otherwise, do you think he would let me go?"
"Joe's always so busy. You should tell him not to bother dropping you off. You two aren't even going in the same direction."
"He doesn't listen to me. He's afraid you'll steal me away."
The car in front moved a few feet, and Nathaniel followed closely, "I'll talk to him about it later."
Joe got Nathaniel's call just after finishing a meeting. Hearing that annoying voice on the phone, he almost hung up immediately. This was his private number, only accessible to family and friends. He had no idea how Nathaniel got hold of it.
"You looking for me?"
"Joe, let's talk..."
Joe sat in the conference room, legs casually crossed, ready to hear what Nathaniel had to say. He didn't think they had anything to discuss.
"Go ahead."
"I asked around and found out you're quite busy lately and have to travel. I'll take care of Aurelia's commute. The online rumors are under control, and the buzz will die down in a few days. With your two bodyguards following, there's nothing to worry about. Aurelia and I work in the same place, so I'll definitely look after her."
Joe wanted to curse. Nathaniel had actually looked into his schedule. He did have to travel this afternoon; there was an accident at the Imperick site, killing two people. He needed to personally investigate what went wrong. He was worried about what to do with Aurelia while he was away.
"You investigated me?"
Nathaniel chuckled, "Joe, it's not investigating, just asking around!"
Joe cursed inwardly, "Bastard, what's the difference?" It seemed Nathaniel already had spies around him. He needed his assistant to check it out.
"I'm gonna be away for a week. During that time, I'll call home every day to make sure Aurelia's back. If you dare not send her home and take her somewhere else, you'll never contact Aurelia again."
Nathaniel's smile deepened. Joe's words were harsh, but he was giving in.
"Don't worry. Your bodyguards will be watching every day. She'll definitely be home on time."
Joe barely held back his anger, "Alright, delete my number. Don't call me again."
After hanging up, Nathaniel stood by the window, looking through two layers of glass at the opposite building. Aurelia was working at her desk, but he couldn't see much.
Karma Jewelry.
Aurelia saw the apology post today and vaguely guessed the person behind the ID was Amy. She angrily called Amy, but the call was hung up after a few rings. She called again, and it was hung up again.
A few minutes later, Amy sent a message:
[Aurelia, I'm sorry. Please stop calling. Joe and Mr. Heilbronn have already scolded me. I've entrusted my house to a real estate agency. Once it's sold, I'll repay the money. I'm sorry...]
What could be more useless than the words "I'm sorry"?
Aurelia felt a pang of sadness. Caleb's call came in,
"Aurelia, I'm really sorry. My artist caused you trouble. Sinclair Media has terminated Lori's contract. She won't be our artist anymore, and we won't offer her any resources. Without a big backer, it's hard for someone with her poor acting skills and bad reputation to make a comeback."
Aurelia was confused. "What happened to Lori?"
"You don't know? The posts online proving your involvement were issued by Lori. The photos were also leaked from her phone."
Aurelia understood. So Amy was working for Lori!
"So she's been blacklisted?"
Caleb didn't hide the truth. He had acted a bit late, letting Nathaniel take the lead.
"Lori was kicked out of the crew last night. Several well-known directors received notices not to hire her for any projects. Nathaniel did it."
Aurelia was stunned. It was such a big deal, and he didn't mention it during their video call last night. He talked about irrelevant things for half an hour, secretly handling matters.
"Mr. Sinclair, Nova's jewelry design is almost finished. Give me two more days to refine it."
"Thank you. Nova is in Coral Bay these days. How about we have dinner together?"
Aurelia hesitated, "I've had bad luck lately. I'd rather not show up in public. If Nova has time, she can come to my office to check the designs. If there's anything she's not satisfied with, I can modify it on the spot, which will improve efficiency and save time."
"Alright, I'll let her know."
Nova was impatient. After hearing Caleb's message, she showed up at Karma Jewelry before the end of the day.
"Aurelia, this headpiece design is stunning. I've already thought about the hairstyle and veil to match it. It's beautiful!"
Aurelia handed her several design drafts, "Take a look. They're not completely finished yet. The general style is like this, but I'll refine it."
"Don't refine them. They're already exquisite. Any one of these can easily outshine the pieces Nathaniel's store sells. I think the Heilbronn Group is going downhill. Their new jewelry is getting uglier, with no advantage other than being expensive."
