Chapter 435 That Number Is Still Active
Blood ties were a magical thing.
Joe watched the two kids grow up, and he was a qualified uncle, taking the kids out to play whenever he had time.
Four years of companionship, and he had never seen Dorothy so close to him.
In just a few days, this suddenly appeared dad won the hearts of the two little ones.
Jacob also ran over from behind. When he saw Nathaniel, his face didn't show much expression, but his eyes revealed that he was happy.
Dorothy's small hands tightly hugged her dad's neck. "Daddy, are you not leaving? Can you sleep with Mommy tonight?"
Joe said, "Dorothy, boys and girls are different, they can't just sleep together. Come here, let me hold you."
Dorothy pouted. "But when we were in Imperick, Daddy and Mommy slept together."
Joe's face darkened, and when he glanced at Nathaniel, the man even had a proud expression on his face.
The atmosphere suddenly became tense, and Aurelia hurriedly stepped in to mediate.
"Dorothy, you and your brother need to go to bed. You can play again tomorrow."
Dorothy was a bit reluctant.
"Mommy, but the fireworks aren't over yet."
"You can watch them tomorrow. You need to sleep more to grow taller."
Aurelia forcibly took the two kids away.
With them gone, only Joe and Nathaniel were left, two grown men standing in the night watching fireworks, which was quite odd.
After a long silence, Nathaniel spoke first, "Thank you."
This thank you was heartfelt. His biggest regret was the four years his kids missed out on his love. Fortunately, they had an uncle by their side, so their childhood wasn't completely devoid of family.
Joe sneered. "Thank me for what? The network storm the Heilbronn Group faced two years ago, the big deal lost last year, the rise of your rival company, all of it was my doing."
Joe's words were blunt; he couldn't stand seeing Nathaniel doing well.
Over the years, he had set many traps for him in the business world, all of which Nathaniel had resolved, which indeed made Joe look at him differently.
Nathaniel chuckled softly. He had found some clues about these matters.
The Heilbronn Group and The Semona Family's businesses were in different industries, with no competition. At first, he couldn't understand why Joe, far away in Coral Bay, would trouble him. Later, after learning about Aurelia's identity, everything became clear.
"I know. Are you satisfied now?"
Joe replied bluntly, "No."
"Then, go ahead. I won't fight back."
For someone like Nathaniel, who was known for his vengeful nature in the business world, saying such words showed great tolerance.
All because of her.
Joe asked again. "Are you really planning to move your company here for my sister?"
Nathaniel lit a cigarette but didn't smoke it, just letting it hang between his fingers in the night breeze.
"No choice. Where my wife and kids are, that's where home is."
Joe couldn't help but retort, "Mr. Heilbronn, you're a well-known figure outside. How can you be so shameless when it comes to women? Is Aurelia your wife?"
Nathaniel smirked and replied, "Sooner or later."
"Cathy is having a birthday party next month. She has always been low-key, but this is the first time she's asked for a big celebration. Do you know why?"
After speaking, Joe answered his own question.
"To find a grandson-in-law."
Joe glanced disdainfully, thinking, 'Dream on if you want to be The Semona Family's grandson-in-law!'
Nathaniel took a deep drag on his cigarette and said calmly, "Then I'll make sure to perform well."
After putting the two kids to sleep, Aurelia went downstairs just as Joe came in from outside.
Aurelia's heart raced a bit, and she called out nervously, "Joe."
Joe responded with a hum, seeing her glancing outside, and said, "I scolded him away."
Aurelia thought, 'As long as they didn't fight.'
Joe poured two glasses of water, handing one to Aurelia.
"I heard you're looking for a spokesperson recently?"
"I've already found one. Caleb recommended him. I trust his judgment."
Joe had heard Caleb mention this at a business gathering. He used to think Caleb wasn't good enough for his sister.
But after Joe observed him over the years, he turned out to be a decent guy.
At least he was reliable, cared about her affairs, and was a hundred times better than Nathaniel.
"Let's invite him over for dinner sometime to thank him."
Aurelia was surprised. "Joe, do we have to invite him home?"
Joe rarely invited people home, except for a few close friends. Anyone he invited was someone he considered trustworthy and admirable in all aspects.
Even Aurelia, who was usually slow to catch on, sensed something was off.
"Joe, I'll invite him out. Just give me one of your hidden bottles of wine."
Joe was silent for a few seconds before asking, "You and Nathaniel..."
Aurelia scratched her head.
"Joe, I want to give it another try."
Joe was silent for a long time.
"It's late. Get some rest."
Aurelia didn't know what his attitude meant, whether he agreed or disagreed.
She didn't dare to ask, feeling it wouldn't end well.
The next day, as soon as Aurelia parked her car downstairs, Aurora called.
"Anna, someone is here to see you."
Aurelia went upstairs and saw Amy standing awkwardly at the company entrance, not going in.
"Why aren't you going in?"
Amy turned around at the sound, giving an awkward smile. "I didn't want to disturb anyone at work. I came to give you this."
She handed over a piece of paper, with "IOU" written at the top.
"I sent you messages and called, but couldn't reach you, so I came in person."
Aurelia took the IOU. "Actually, this isn't necessary. I changed my number, so my old one is no longer in use."
"Then let me save it. It'll be easier to repay you later."
Aurelia recited her number, and Amy saved it.
Amy added, "Your old number is still active, but no one answers."
Aurelia was stunned. She had never tried that number. Hearing Amy's words, she was surprised. After all this time, that number was still active?
Back in her office, Aurelia sat in a daze for a few seconds, then opened her phone and dialed.
The phone rang, and sure enough, it was still active. After a few rings, the call was answered.
"Aurelia, why are you calling this number?"
Hearing the magnetic voice, Aurelia was stunned. She thought it would be like Amy's experience, where even if it connected, no one would answer.
