Chapter 361 Arrogance
Arthur glanced at Nathaniel, then at Aurelia and two adorable children behind him, feeling a pang of sorrow in his heart.
Arthur grabbed Nathaniel's hand, his eyes cloudy, looking like a worried old father. "Nathaniel, you young people can communicate better. Help me persuade him."
Nathaniel knew this matter wouldn't change and could only slowly accept it. But at this moment, seeing Arthur's helpless state, he couldn't refuse. "Mr. Moore, don't worry."
This matter couldn't be rushed.
"Alright, you guys talk." Arthur stood up and left the private room with his assistant.
As soon as Arthur left, Oscar began to wail and complain, "Untie me quickly, my legs are numb."
Nathaniel went over to untie him, moving slowly despite Oscar's cries, and teased him lightly, "I told you to keep a low profile, but you went ahead and moved in with him. Got caught red-handed, didn't you?"
Oscar was already angry, and this so-called friend didn't offer a word of comfort, only teasing.
"Don't talk about me. Aren't you the same? Didn't you move in with Aurelia?"
Nathaniel was momentarily speechless, his actions becoming rougher, making Oscar yelp in pain.
Jacob, who had been quietly watching, squeezed Aurelia's fingers and asked softly, "Mommy, did Oscar do something wrong and get beaten by his dad?"
Aurelia found it hard to explain. She hadn't started sex education for the two children yet, and she wasn't sure if they would understand.
Before she could answer, Jacob asked again, "Will Daddy be as fierce as that old man?"
Aurelia looked down at her son, finally understanding what he was worried about. "Jacob, your daddy won't."
Oscar, now free, moved his limbs slightly. After being tied up for hours, his whole body was numb. If Arthur hadn't gone to the restroom, he wouldn't have been able to make that rescue call. Otherwise, who knew how long he would have been tied up.
But seeing Arthur's hurt expression, it was likely he wouldn't let him off easily. He needed to escape now.
Oscar, having regained some feeling in his limbs, picked up his phone from the table. "I won't stay with you. I'm leaving first."
Oscar was grateful to Nathaniel for saving him. Before leaving, he ordered a special Valentine's Day dinner for the family of four at the front desk.
This was the most bustling area of Imperick, with a fantastic view.
Standing by the window, one could see the traffic below, the twinkling lights like a fallen galaxy.
Nathaniel sat by the window, thinking, at least this little episode with Oscar didn't ruin his holiday.
The waiter began to serve the dishes one after another.
It had to be said, Oscar's restaurant had the best ambiance in the country. The dishes, specially crafted for Valentine's Day, were exquisite and delicious.
It was a pity there were two kids; otherwise, it could have been a romantic evening for two.
Nathaniel poured a glass of red wine for Aurelia and pushed it towards her.
"Eat up. After dinner, we'll go to Starcrest Hill to see the night view of Imperick."
Aurelia recalled that Starcrest Hill was said to be the best spot to view Imperick's night scenery. Many tourists would go there just to see the neon lights.
After marrying Nathaniel, she had mentioned it a few times, urging him to climb Starcrest Hill with her, but he always brushed it off. Eventually, she stopped bringing it up.
Now he was suggesting they climb Starcrest Hill to see the night view.
Aurelia said, "Didn't you hate climbing Starcrest Hill? If you don't want to go, don't force yourself."
Nathaniel almost choked on his wine, glancing at her. She seemed to hold a grudge about this. He remembered her requests. "When did I say I hated climbing mountains?"
Aurelia rolled her eyes at him. "Do you even need to say it? Your expression said it all. I'm not blind."
Nathaniel paused, thinking, 'Was his expression really that bad?'
"The times you asked weren't suitable. The weather is nice today; we might see a lot of stars on the mountain."
Aurelia was annoyed. If he didn't like it, he should just admit it. She hadn't said anything before, and now that they were divorced, she wouldn't hold it against him.
"Oh, I asked three times, and none of those times were suitable. But now it is?"
Nathaniel looked at her, both angry and amused. "Think carefully. The times you asked to climb the mountain, weren't you on your period? If I had agreed, you'd have had a stomachache on the mountain. Where would you lie down then?"
Aurelia was taken aback. She couldn't remember, but Nathaniel, who almost always kept her up at night when he wasn't traveling, seemed to remember her cycle well. His tone didn't sound like he was lying.
But she didn't want to lose the argument, so she retorted, "So, I asked three times, and all three times were during my period?"
How could it be that coincidental? Once or twice, she might believe, but three times during her period seemed far-fetched.
Nathaniel put down his wine glass to argue. If he didn't clear this up today, she'd hold a grudge forever.
"Two times were during your period, and the other time the weather forecast predicted rain. Do you think that was suitable?"
Aurelia was speechless. She glanced at Nathaniel, who looked both serious and wronged, almost pitiful.
She buried her head in her food, not daring to bring up the topic again.
Nathaniel's phone chimed with a message.
He opened Facebook to see a message from Oscar. [Bro, lend me some money, 500 bucks will do. Need gas.]
Nathaniel smirked slightly, about to transfer the money when another message came in. [Bro, make it 600 bucks. I'm out of minutes.]
Nathaniel put down his utensils, his long fingers tapping the screen to transfer the money to Oscar, not forgetting to mock him. [Did your dad lock your card?]
After sending the message, there was no reply. He put his phone down and returned to the dinner.
The two kids weren't picky eaters, eating vegetables, fruits, main courses, and meat. This was unlike their mother, which Nathaniel found comforting.
Looking at the woman beside him, her bowl only had her favorite dishes. She wouldn't touch leafy greens, a picky eater indeed.
Nathaniel pushed the leafy greens towards Aurelia. "Aurelia, has no one made you eat greens all these years?"
Aurelia was taken aback by his sudden question, then retorted, "What do you mean? I eat everything, okay?"
Nathaniel didn't believe her. At least in the past few days, she hadn't touched any greens. "Everything?"
Who was she kidding?
