Chapter 136 He Couldn't be That Active
Oscar's face changed color as he decided to play dumb. He complained to Nathaniel in front of the crowd.
"What kind of employees have you hired to come up with such a rotten idea?" Oscar exclaimed.
Nathaniel stood a head taller than the surrounding crowd, calmly expressing that he was just there to watch the show.
Ulysses brought over a microphone and asked, "Doing this in front of so many people isn't quite appropriate. Can we lower the difficulty level a bit? How about just holding hands?"
The host raised an eyebrow. "Let's seek advice from the guests here. Do you all agree?"
A chorus of voices immediately responded, "No!"
Oscar felt like he was dying inside. What a disaster! He definitely didn't want to hold hands with Ulysses!
The scene fell into a brief chaos.
After observing the commotion for a while, Nathaniel finally spoke up, "Let's all calm down a bit. Don't push Mr. Moore to commit suicide tomorrow."
With that, the crowd changed their tune. "Well, just hold hands then."
Oscar was furious, his eyes wide with anger as he thought his good buddy Nathaniel would help him out, but in the end, he still had to hold hands.
He grumbled to himself, but before he could react, Ulysses had already grabbed his hand and pushed him towards the edge of the crowd.
How embarrassing!
The two left, and the game continued.
This time, the numbers drawn were 13 for the male and 14 for the female.
The homophonic nature of these numbers was quite romantic. After the host announced it, the crowd erupted in cheers, drawing out the last syllable. Who could it be?
The anticipation was palpable.
Nathaniel took out the card from his pocket, looked at it, and calmly walked to the front.
To everyone's surprise, it was their CEO this time. Employees both respected and feared him, as Nathaniel was known in the company for being icy, serious, and reserved, and they had never seen him outside of work mode.
At this moment, everyone was excited, eagerly awaiting the start of the game.
All eyes were wide open, scanning the crowd to find out who the lucky female participant would be.
Unnoticed by anyone, Zack secretly exchanged a thumbs-up gesture with the host. He was determined to ensure the success of this celebration and not incur the wrath of the CEO. He had thought through all these tactics.
Now, Zack figured it out that to have good days ahead, he had to keep Aurelia happy. He knew well that only when Aurelia was satisfied could the whole company be free from Nathaniel's unpredictable anger.
Aurelia clenched her hands nervously, remaining silent.
The host called out multiple times, but his eyes were secretly scanning towards Aurelia, waiting for her response. Yet she remained motionless.
Everyone was curious, wondering who was that lucky one holding the lucky card but concealing it.
Tiffany, standing beside Aurelia, asked, "Aurelia, I remember that number belongs to you, right?"
Aurelia nervously licked her lips. She had already guessed that this group of people must have done it intentionally. Just a moment ago, she had a quarrel with Nathaniel in the room, and she had wanted to maintain her aloof demeanor a little longer.
Little did she expect Tiffany, who usually spoke softly, to suddenly speak so loudly, as if afraid others wouldn't hear. After she finished speaking, everyone turned to her with meaningful expressions.
The host also asked her, "Our beautiful Mrs. Heilbronn, could you show everyone the number in your hand?"
Forced into a corner, Aurelia reluctantly stepped forward and said, "It's me."
Nathaniel, who had just shaken off some unpleasant thoughts in the sea breeze, felt a surge of emotions. Aurelia was even avoiding him in a game. Did he really displease her that much?
On the winner's podium, the two stood several meters apart.
Nathaniel held the microphone, glaring at her, waiting to see how long she could avoid him.
The host's gaze shifted between the two, and then he began to announce the rules for the next round of the game.
"As the game progresses, the difficulty increases. Now, let me explain the rules for this round. Rule No.1: a three-minute kiss. Rule No.2: each must reveal a secret they've kept from each other. Rule No.3: the man must agree to a request from the woman unconditionally."
As the host finished speaking, someone in the crowd whistled, and the cheering continued.
Some were already preparing their cameras. Everyone was curious about what their CEO would be like in a romantic setting, whose usual serious demeanor left much to the imagination.
Aurelia glanced briefly at Nathaniel nearby, then quickly turned her head away.
The game rules seemed too awkward. Aurelia wondered who came up with the idea of a three-minute kiss. Was this a reward or a punishment?
It was all too embarrassing in front of so many people.
She was so nervous that her palms were sweating, reassuring herself that he wouldn't let these people fool around, and as long as he spoke up, no one would dare to contradict him.
Her heart was hanging in the balance, placing all her hopes on Nathaniel.
Seeing the two standing still, the host spoke again, "Mr. and Mrs. Heilbronn, could you two stand a little closer? This distance is too far; otherwise, it might just be an air kiss."
However, they still stood rooted to the spot. After a few awkward seconds, the host quickly reacted. "Let's move on to the second task. Mr. and Mrs. Heilbronn, please each reveal a secret you've kept from each other. Let's start with Mr. Heilbronn."
Named by the host, Nathaniel couldn't back out now. After all, some things between husband and wife should not be made into a public spectacle.
Nathaniel took the microphone and said slowly, "Actually, when I went on a business trip to Coral Bay, it wasn't just for work. I was trying to find someone for you. But I didn't find them."
Aurelia looked at him, surprised and puzzled. She knew he was very sensitive about Samuel's presence, but she had no idea he had gone so far for her, actively searching for Samuel.
Her cold heart began to soften.
As Aurelia looked at him, memories of their argument earlier in the room flooded her mind. She acknowledged that he was right and that she also had faults. She shouldn't have used such matters to provoke Nathaniel, as it would only lead to baseless suspicions between them.
Their conversation was incomprehensible to everyone else, who was eagerly awaiting the three-minute kiss between the two, already becoming impatient.
The host handed the microphone to Aurelia. "Mrs. Heilbronn, it's your turn."
"What I said in the room today was a lie; I didn't find Samuel," she confessed.
Upon hearing her words, Nathaniel's eyes flickered, and he took long strides towards Aurelia. Having suffered internally for half a day, he realized it was just a false enemy. He thought to himself, 'I'll deal with you later.'
While the game unfolded, no one noticed a man in the corner holding a glass of red wine, his gaze tenderly fixed on Aurelia on stage. But as his eyes shifted to Nathaniel, they turned sharp, as if he wanted to pierce a hole through him.
An assistant stepped forward and asked, "Should I call Miss Semona over in a moment?"
The man made a gesture, telling the assistant to keep quiet. He said calmly, "Let's not act rashly for now; it might frighten her."
The assistant then asked, "If we can't take Miss Semona home on this trip? Madam might cause a scene."
In a composed tone, the man replied, "I have my plan. I will explain things to the Madam. Have a few more people secretly keep an eye on that woman to ensure she doesn't harm Aurelia."
In the center of the gaming area, the host noticed the subtle changes between the two and wondered if it was time to proceed.
"Now that Mr. and Mrs. Heilbronn have completed the second task. Let's move on to the first task: a three-minute kiss. Only after completing all tasks can we reveal our mysterious prize," the host announced.
Behind the winner's podium, Zack watched two girls from the HR department urging them to hurry up and make the packing look good; time was running out.
He had bought three large boxes of condoms, the same brand Nathaniel used, thinking even if half went to waste, it should be enough for him. After all, their CEO couldn't possibly be that active as to go at it a dozen times in one night, could he?
This mysterious grand prize should be something their CEO would appreciate.
