Chapter 357 You Should Sleep with Mommy
Aurelia was momentarily stunned, not quite grasping the implication of Nathaniel's words.
'Who does he plan to share a bed with?'
Of course, she had doubts but didn't dare to voice them.
Seeing her silence, Nathaniel chuckled softly. "I'll share the bed with our son."
Aurelia felt a sense of relief. At this moment, Jacoba, who was playing parkour in the living room, sensed that something was wrong.
Jacoba obediently walked over to Aurelia, looking at her with pleading eyes.
"Mommy, can you let..."
Jacoba wanted to say, "let him sleep on the couch," but seeing Nathaniel's gaze, he quickly changed his words.
"Can you let Daddy sleep on the couch?" Nathaniel's brow twitched. This kid didn't want him and was rejecting his own father? "Jacoba, I had worked hard all day and can't even get a bed to sleep in. Don't you feel sorry for me?"
Jacoba's eyes met Nathaniel's again, feeling an inexplicable pressure. He looked at Aurelia with a pained expression.
"Mommy, I want to sleep with you."
Nathaniel had intended to use this opportunity to bond with his son. Dorothy was a girl, so it wasn't appropriate to sleep together. He chose his son, but Jacoba rejected him.
"What kind of big kid still clings to Mommy? Be good and sleep with Daddy," Nathaniel said.
Jacoba was about to go crazy. He had just made one mistake, hacking into the Heilbronn Group's system, and now he had to be blackmailed by Nathaniel for life?
Jacoba burst into tears. "I don't want to sleep with you. You should sleep with Mommy. Don't come and squeeze in with me!"
The room fell silent.
Aurelia felt her scalp tingle. She looked up and saw Nathaniel staring deeply at her, his eyes asking, "Is that okay?"
Aurelia's ears felt hot, and a long silence followed.
Aurelia took Jacoba back to his room and comforted him. Jacoba mainly didn't want to sleep with Nathaniel; the thought alone was terrifying. He was starting to fear his father. After Mommy promised not to let Daddy sleep with him, he stopped crying.
When Aurelia came out of Jacoba's room, Nathaniel was standing outside, as if waiting for her.
Nathaniel had already showered. His hair was still damp, and he was wearing a dark pajama set that contrasted with his pale skin, giving him an air of aristocratic elegance.
"Aurelia, consider Jacoba's suggestion, okay?"
When he asked this, his eyes were glued to Aurelia's face, his expression sincere.
They were both adults, and sleeping together implied something obvious.
Aurelia checked if Jacoba's door was tightly closed. She walked a few steps away from the door and whispered, "The kids are older now. We shouldn't talk about this; they might overhear."
Nathaniel smiled faintly.
"Wasn't this Jacoba's idea? I think it's a good one."
Aurelia rolled her eyes at him.
"I promised to seriously consider our relationship, but I didn't say we should start over. Do you think it's appropriate to sleep together?"
Nathaniel had anticipated this response; her words were exactly what he expected.
"So when will you give me an answer?"
Aurelia turned and entered an empty room.
"You said you wouldn't rush me."
Aurelia started cleaning and making the bed, while Nathaniel leaned against the door, watching her busy herself.
"Fine, I'll pursue you slowly."
The next morning, Nathaniel, as usual, prepared breakfast early, waiting for Aurelia and the two kids to come down and eat.
Aurelia had a good night's sleep and got herself ready. She saw Nathaniel on the terrace with a cigarette.
Nathaniel heard the noise, turned around, and put out the cigarette.
"Are you smoking a lot now?"
Nathaniel, looking like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar, licked his lips and admitted guiltily, "I have been a bit these past few years. If you don't like it, I'll quit."
Aurelia didn't say whether she liked it or not. Given their current relationship, she had no right to make demands. Thinking of the message Marcus had sent earlier, she was a bit worried.
"Marcus won't come to arrest me today, will he?"
Compared to Aurelia, Nathaniel's expression was calm, without a hint of worry.
"I'll keep an eye on him. You go about your business."
Aurelia nodded.
"Let's eat first."
After breakfast, Nathaniel dropped Aurelia off at her company and took the two kids back to the Heilbronn Group.
The staff who had comforted the kids yesterday brought a lot of toys today. Nathaniel bringing his kids to work was no secret in the company. Today, more volunteers lined up to sign up with Zack, eager to go to the top floor to take care of the kids.
Zack's Facebook was flooded with messages. To avoid the harassment, he created a group and added everyone who signed up.
[Everyone, calm down. Mr. Heilbronn has a meeting this morning and will take the kids out in the afternoon. So, we only need people to watch the kids during the meeting. You can discuss among yourselves who will go up. Two people are enough; too many will just cause a commotion.]
After he sent the message, the group exploded.
[I promised Dorothy I'd braid her hair today. I brought all the tools, so I can't let her down.]
[You went yesterday. It's our turn. I have experience with kids, and the two little ones will definitely like me.]
[Stop arguing. Let's be fair. How about we roll the dice? The lowest numbers get eliminated until we're down to two.]
[Agreed!]
Zack set the group to mute notifications and waited for them to sort it out.
In the morning, the two kids jumped on the sofa and bed in his office. Nathaniel didn't mind the noise and could still focus on his work. After the meeting, he took the kids to a family-friendly restaurant for lunch.
In the afternoon, he had to visit SmartHomeTech. This tech company was his personal acquisition, unrelated to the Heilbronn Group. It specialized in smart home technology and also had robots that Jacoba liked. Recently, he had people develop an Elsa early education robot, and some plans needed his final approval.
The car stopped in front of SmartHomeTech. Zack went to park the car, and Nathaniel, holding a child in each hand, walked in, shedding his usual CEO image.
The first-floor lobby had robots, smart vacuum cleaners, and smart refrigerators that Jacoba liked. As soon as Jacoba entered, he was captivated, his eyes lighting up as he stared at the robot.
Nathaniel stood behind Jacoba and asked, "Do you like it?"
Jacoba nodded vigorously.
"This robot looks better than mine, but its performance is yet to be tested. I think mine is probably better."
Nathaniel asked again, "Do you want to take one home to study?"
Jacoba didn't expect such a generous offer, his eyes filled with longing. "Really? I can?"
Nathaniel cleared his throat. "Call me Daddy!"
