Chapter 60 Lolly
Oscar smiled and said, "Why beat around the bush when you like someone?"
Caleb smirked mysteriously.
Aurelia was eating at the banquet; she had been constantly hungry since becoming pregnant.
Ashley approached with two drinks and a forced smile on her face.
"Aurelia, Grandpa misses you. Can you visit the old house sometime this week?" Ashley handed her a glass of grape juice.
Aurelia quietly nibbled on her cake, giving a calm nod.
Ashley's polite approach seemed suspicious to Aurelia. She was curious to see what Ashley was up to.
She suspected Ashley might ask for jewelry or limited-edition handbags, as she had done in the past. Nathaniel's walk-in closet was filled with items Ashley had requested.
"Grandpa has taken up golf lately. He keeps saying I won't play with him, but you're willing. I told him I prefer dancing to golf." Aurelia listened silently. She knew Ashley was leading up to something.
Ashley, feeling thirsty, took a few sips of her juice and pushed the other glass towards Aurelia.
Ashley’s phone rang at this moment.
"Aurelia, have a drink. I need to take this call," Ashley said, walking away.
Aurelia stared at Ashley’s back, feeling something was off. She knew that Ashley was scheming something.
Being pregnant, Aurelia had to be extra cautious.
She replayed every word Ashley had said in her mind. Ulysses snapped his fingers in front of her. "Aurelia, I saw Marcus. Do you want to say hello?"
Aurelia's attention was drawn back. She looked in the direction Ulysses pointed and saw Marcus talking to a well-dressed woman.
The woman kept talking while Marcus nodded occasionally, glancing around. It was clear he wasn't interested in the conversation, but his good manners kept him there. At one point, the woman took out her phone, seemingly to exchange contact information.
When Marcus's gaze met Aurelia's, she discerned the plea for help in his gaze.
"Let's go say hello," she said, getting up with Ulysses following behind.
"Mr. Heilbronn, I've been looking for you," Aurelia said.
Marcus's expression relaxed. He pretended to ask, "What's the matter?"
"Mr. Reed Heilbronn called and asked you something. Was your phone out of battery?" Aurelia said.
Aurelia almost said “Grandpa” but quickly corrected herself to “Mr. Reed Heilbronn.”
Marcus smiled and shrugged at the woman. "I'm sorry, but my phone really ran out of battery."
The woman persisted and handed Marcus her phone number.
Marcus took her number, finally ending the conversation.
The woman left, leaving the three of them standing there.
"Aurelia, thank you for helping me out. Let me treat you to a meal another day," Marcus said.
Aurelia waved her hand. "We're family. No need to thank me. You already treated me last time; it's my turn next."
Marcus didn't insist. "Alright, your treat. How about next Monday? We can have dinner after work."
Aurelia was momentarily stunned. She had intended to treat him, but she had yet to think about when to fulfill her promise. She didn't expect Marcus to set a specific time.
She felt embarrassed by her hesitation. It seemed insincere to consider so much after offering to treat Marcus. "Sure, next Monday."
As they talked, Ulysses subtly hinted at Aurelia.
"Aurelia, didn't we agree to have dinner together next Monday night?"
Aurelia immediately understood what he was up to. "Marcus, I'll bring a friend if you don't mind."
Marcus coughed. "No problem. How about a drink now?"
Aurelia agreed. Marcus knew she was pregnant and wouldn't let her drink. She glanced at the noisy environment. She had just thought of leaving after filling her stomach, but she didn't mind a little more time.
The three of them returned to the table where Aurelia had been sitting. Marcus brought over a glass. She thought he would offer her juice, but it was water.
"Aurelia, you shouldn't drink too much juice. Watch your sugar intake," Marcus said.
Aurelia blushed slightly. Marcus knew quite a lot, including the fact that pregnant women shouldn't consume too much sugar.
The three of them sat around the table. Marcus poured himself a glass of water. Aurelia guessed he was drinking water to accompany her, as she had seen him holding a glass of wine earlier.
"Let's make a toast," Ulysses said.
The small table seemed quiet and harmonious in the midst of the noisy environment.
After a while, Aurelia said it was getting late and she needed to go home.
"Marcus, I'm a bit tired, and I want to rest," she said.
She had been worried about the auction these days. Today, she used Nathaniel's money to buy back her treasures, relieving her of her worries and making her feel relaxed. She thought that she would sleep well tonight.
Marcus made a call and summoned his driver. "Aurelia, let me give you a ride."
Not wanting to refuse his offer, Aurelia bid farewell to Marcus and was escorted by his driver.
Nathaniel, who was standing on the second floor, witnessed this. Zack, who was reporting on work beside him, noticed Mr. Heilbronn's distraction and followed his gaze, only to see him looking at Aurelia.
Although Zack knew his wife was beautiful, he was still amazed by her appearance today.
"Boss, none of the female guests today can compare to your wife," Zack said, implying that Chelsea was not as good as Aurelia.
Even though the two women had similar looks, Aurelia was more mature and elegant. Compared to her, Chelsea was just a little girl.
Nathaniel's gaze remained fixed on the entrance, even though Aurelia had disappeared. He replied coldly, "Do you need to tell me that?"
Zack had nothing to say. He realized that Mr. Heilbronn was in a bad mood, and he guessed it was because he saw Marcus sending Aurelia.
"Boss, shall we go and escort your wife home?"
"No need."
Having been by his side for a long time, Zack naturally understood Nathaniel's mind and knew that he was not happy despite his words.
Nathaniel was too proud, so it was difficult for him to express his true feelings.
The more he cared about someone, the harsher his words became. He couldn't even stand it, let alone his wife.
Zack said helplessly, "Then, Boss, shall I continue with the work report?"
Nathaniel remained silent, and Zack took it as his acquiescence.
"Boss, there are two people on the guest list for our charity event who also appeared on the list for the jewelry exhibition in West City last time."
Nathaniel raised an eyebrow, indicating that he wanted to continue.
"One is Mr. Luke, who sold the cherished emerald ring to Lolly at a low price, and the other is Adrian Sterling, the CEO of our rival company, Sterling Jewels Co."
Nathaniel felt that both of these two people were likely. Mr. Luke was nearly eighty, and he had to wear thick reading glasses, making it impossible for him to design anything. As for Adrian Sterling, it was even more unlikely. If he understood design, he wouldn't have become his own subordinate.
"Are you sure we haven't missed anyone?"
Zack thought for a moment and added, "Boss, in fact, we overlooked someone. Haven't you noticed that your wife was actually present both times? Including the hotel incident."
