Chapter 222 Mr. Heilbronn, Your Son Is Here
"MissI need to see your CEO," Jacob said to the front desk.
The receptionist was startled by his tone. Nathaniel wasn't someone just anyone could meet casually; one had to make an appointment at least three days in advance.
She looked around and saw that this adorable little boy was alone in the lobby, which piqued her curiosity.
"Little one, why do you need to see Mr. Heilbronn? He's very busy."
Jacob said directly, "I have something very important to ask him."
Curious about why his parents didn't live together, he inquired about it. His kindergarten friend Livia's parents resided in the same house and frequently picked her up from school as a united front, which made him wonder why his own situation was different.
He also wanted his mom and dad to pick him and Dorothy up from kindergarten together.
He had wondered if his dad didn't want his mom, his sister, and him, which was why his mom took them to live in Coral Bay. If that were the case, he wouldn't expect much from such a dad.
The receptionist took out a lollipop and handed it to him. "Little one, did you get separated from your parents? Do you remember your dad's phone number? I can call him for you."
Jacob pouted, looking troubled, "I did get separated from my dad, but it's okay. I've found him now. Can you call your CEO down? I have something very important to ask him."
The receptionist was stunned. Having worked there for three years, she had never heard that the CEO had a son. The information came as a surprise to her.
"You mean, Mr. Heilbronn is your dad?"
Jacob was speechless. 'Why are adults so slow? I've been talking for a while, and this lady just now figured it out. Adults are really dumb,' he thought.
"Miss, you guessed right. So, can you call him now?" Jacob asked, a bit impatient.
The receptionist was taken aback for a while. Although she had never heard that their CEO had a son, it wasn't uncommon for CEOs to have illegitimate children. Moreover, this cute little boy did have a few features that resembled Nathaniel.
She hesitantly dialed Zack's number.
"Zack, there's a little boy at the front desk who says he's Mr. Heilbronn's son. Do you want to come down and get him?"
Zack, who was in a meeting, was taken aback by the receptionist's words. He had been well aware of Nathaniel's relationship status over the past few years. Nathaniel had been consumed by the grief of losing his wife and hadn't been involved with any woman since then.
'Where does this child come from?' he thought.
His heart raced as he thought about the malicious woman who had disappeared four years ago. Despite searching for four years, she was still nowhere to be found.
'Could it be that the medicine Mr. Heilbronn had given her didn't work, and now she had come back?' he guessed.
He glanced at Nathaniel, who was focused on the meeting, and the group of senior executives. This personal matter was not something he dared to report to Nathaniel in the meeting, so he sneaked out of the conference room and quickly took the elevator to the first floor.
In the lobby, Jacob was sitting on a small sofa, drinking a beverage, led by the receptionist.
Zack took one look and thought, "Oh no, this kid looks a lot like Mr. Heilbronn."
It was likely that his guess was correct.
He walked over and carefully examined the spirited little boy. No matter how he looked, the boy seemed like a miniature version of Mr. Heilbronn, with the same eyebrows, nose, and face shape.
Jacoba wasn't afraid of people. As Zack examined him, he boldly stared back at Zack.
He greeted, "Hello, do you know my dad?"
Zack looked around. Many employees were coming and going in the lobby. Discussing the CEO's personal matters here would make it the gossip of the office.
"Little one, I'm the CEO's assistant. Come with me." Zack guided him.
Jacoba looked at the receptionist who had given him water. She nodded, signaling that it was okay to go with him.
He followed Zack into the CEO's private elevator, going straight to the top floor and into the CEO's office.
Once the door was closed, Zack asked him questions.
"Little one, can you tell me how old you are and your name?"
Jacob was still a bit cautious and didn't want to tell him directly. "Where's my dad? Didn't you say you'd take me to him?"
Zack smiled, "This is Mr. Heilbronn's office. He's in a meeting right now."
With that, he picked up a photo album from Nathaniel's desk and showed it to Jacob. "Look, is this the person you're looking for?"
Jacoba felt reassured when he saw the photo. He had guessed right; Nathaniel was his dad.
The photo was of the stern CEO and his mom. If they weren't a couple, they wouldn't have posed so intimately. His mom wasn't a casual person, and in his little heart, no man was good enough for his excellent mom.
As he gazed at the photo, he assessed his father's appearance. He concluded that his dad looked acceptable, appearing decent albeit a bit stern in his expression.
He sat on the sofa, swinging his little legs, patiently waiting for this dad he had never met to return.
In the conference room, Nathaniel and a group of senior executives finally finalized a plan. After announcing the end of the meeting, the senior executives hurried back to instruct their subordinates. In less than a minute, Nathaniel was the only one left in the conference room.
Zack knocked and entered, organizing his words. "Mr. Heilbronn, your son is here to see you."
Nathaniel was stunned, his reaction completely within Zack's expectations.
Clearly, they were both thinking the same thing.
Nathaniel was taken aback. This wasn't a small matter. Four years ago, Chelsea had run away. He hadn't confirmed if the baby in Chelsea's belly was gone, so anything was possible.
He left the unfinished documents and strode towards his office.
Jacob was already tired of waiting, holding the photo album and dozing off.
Nathaniel walked in and saw a boy sleeping in his office, with countless questions in his mind waiting to be answered.
Jacob heard the noise and sat up, comparing Nathaniel to the photo to confirm it was him.
"Are you Nathaniel?" Jacoba directly called Nathaniel by his first name. This dad looked stern, and if he bullied his mom, Jacob would deal with him.
Nathaniel raised an eyebrow, thinking this little boy had some guts. The senior executives in the company all respectfully called him Mr. Heilbronn, and there were hardly any people in this building who weren't afraid of him.
He asked, "Who told you to come find me?"
Jacoba replied, "I came by myself. I'm not a little kid; I don't need anyone's permission to find someone."
Nathaniel was almost amused by his mature words. He found it a bit funny that Jacob had already declared himself an adult.
"How old are you, and what's your name?" he asked further.
Jacoba hadn't informed Zack earlier out of caution, but now, facing the person he had been searching for, he had no intention of concealing the truth any longer.
"My name is Jacob, and I'm four years old."
Nathaniel was stunned when he heard "four years old." If it weren't for that car accident, his two babies would also be four years old.
"Your last name isn't Thompson?" he asked again.
Jacob was cautious and didn't tell him his last name was Semona. Hearing him say that, his little face was full of confusion.
"Why would my last name be Thompson?" Jacob answered.
His Mom's last name was Semona, and his Dad's last name was Heilbronn. There was no reason for his last name to be Thompson.
'Hereally isn't very smart. No wonder Mom doesn't want him,' Jacob thought.
