Chapter 348 Kiss
Aurelia was taken aback by his words. Did he mean he would stay here too? She now deeply felt that she had fallen into his trap, and it was voluntary.
Aurelia looked up and met Nathaniel's gaze, her thoughts clearly displayed on her face.
Nathaniel ignored the questioning in her eyes, playing dumb as men often do.
"Aurelia, I'll stay in the study."
Aurelia didn't want to speak now. He had already organized everything perfectly. She felt like she had no choice but to go along with it.
Nathaniel didn't intend to stay long, probably afraid that Aurelia would expose his ulterior motives if the conversation continued. After all, he knew he wasn't entirely innocent. He had stirred things up in her home, and before she could even process it, he had convinced her to pack her things and come back with him.
Just then, the phone rang. Nathaniel glanced at his phone.
"Pack up and rest early. I have some work to handle."
Nathaniel took the call and walked downstairs to the study.
On the other end, Zack reported, "Mr. Heilbronn, everything is done. Marcus's overseas accounts have been limited. If he insists on going abroad, he won't get far after landing."
Nathaniel sat in the leather chair in the study, legs crossed, loosening his shirt collar and taking off his watch, looking relaxed.
"Keep an eye on him. Don't be careless."
"Mr. Heilbronn, we've been following him. However, Marcus's people have found out about your psychologist Mark's clinic. But Mark is a smart guy; he brushed them off with a few words."
Nathaniel snorted lightly.
"He's too idle. Find something for him to do."
Zack, having worked with Nathaniel for years, immediately understood the underlying message.
"Mr. Heilbronn, the model who accidentally got injured at the last fashion show is still looking for ways to defend her rights. I'll give her a hand."
"Be careful not to blow things up."
Nathaniel just wanted to keep Marcus busy and didn't want to tarnish the Heilbronn Group's reputation because of him. He just wanted to keep him occupied.
Capitalists were best at weighing the pros and cons.
After all, they were all part of the Heilbronn family, and any damage would affect their common interests.
"Understood."
After hanging up, Nathaniel handled some urgent emails. He had been slacking off these days, accumulating a lot of work to deal with.
He had planned to handle some long-pending orders today, but plans couldn't keep up with changes. After visiting the cemetery in the morning, he spent the rest of the time with his daughter.
Upstairs, Aurelia got the kids ready for bed and then took a shower.
The master bathroom had a large bathtub, but she didn't use it, opting for a shower instead. She dried her hair and lay in bed, tossing and turning, feeling anxious in this new house.
This house was located far from the city, making the nights exceptionally quiet. The cicadas in the yard seemed particularly noisy.
Aurelia clutched the blanket, feeling lost. She wondered if it was Nathaniel's scheme; the blanket was sent from the Bloom Villa, the same one they used to share.
Her mind was in turmoil, constantly and unconsciously trying to catch a whiff of that familiar scent. Now, she felt the whole room was filled with Nathaniel's scent.
She knew it was impossible. Even if he had used the blanket, it had been four years. Betty had aired and washed it at home, and the scent should be of laundry detergent.
But at this moment, she felt obsessed, thinking there was a faint scent of grass and wood lingering around her nose.
It was driving her crazy.
Aurelia lay awake until midnight, unable to sleep.
Unable to fall asleep, she decided to go downstairs for some fresh air.
Aurelia opened the door. All the lights in the house were off, but fortunately, it was a full moon, and the moonlight illuminated the stairs.
She held the handrail and walked down, remembering Nathaniel said he was staying in the study. She instinctively glanced towards the study. The door was ajar, and there was no light inside, so he must have gone to bed.
In recent years, Aurelia had grown to love the night.
During the day, she had to face many people and things, keeping her mind sharp. But at night, she could be herself, letting her mind relax.
Aurelia tiptoed to the window, not noticing someone sleeping on the sofa.
The midsummer night's breeze was gentle, and the leaves swayed slightly in the moonlight.
Aurelia closed her eyes to listen to the wind. A few seconds later, she suddenly opened her eyes and turned around. She seemed to have heard breathing.
Nathaniel said he would sleep in the study, but the study only had a desk and chair. Sleeping on the sofa in the living room was more comfortable.
At this moment, he was having a nightmare, sweating profusely. Nightmares had become a norm for him in recent years. In fact, being able to sleep was already a good state for him. Sometimes, he would suffer from insomnia for two or three days straight, still having to work during the day, which was more torturous than nightmares.
Aurelia finally noticed Nathaniel sleeping on the sofa.
His legs were draped over the sofa armrest, making the sofa look cramped.
Moonlight shone on his face, and Aurelia clearly saw the sweat on his forehead. Nathaniel's brows were furrowed, as if he was experiencing something very painful in his dream, mumbling some inaudible words, looking extremely distressed.
"Nathaniel?"
Aurelia called out softly, but Nathaniel, trapped in his nightmare, didn't respond and continued to struggle.
Aurelia squatted down, feeling a strange discomfort seeing his pained expression. She reached out to wipe the sweat from his forehead.
The moment her slender fingers touched his skin, she quickly pulled back as if electrocuted.
She bitterly smiled at herself, wondering what she was doing.
Even though she was calm enough, seeing him in such a painful nightmare made her feel uneasy, wanting to pull him out of it.
Her series of small actions finally woke Nathaniel from his nightmare.
Nathaniel reacted quickly, grabbing Aurelia's wrist and pulling her over in a second.
Aurelia didn't have time to react and fell onto the sofa, being held by Nathaniel.
The next second, both of them were stunned.
Nathaniel didn't do it on purpose. Half-awake, he instinctively wanted to pull her into his arms, not realizing it wasn't a dream.
Now he was fully awake. If he were awake, he wouldn't dare to do something so bold; given their current relationship, it was a bit presumptuous.
Aurelia's hands pressed against Nathaniel's chest, feeling the coolness beneath her palms. She wondered what he had dreamed of to scare himself like this.
Nathaniel hadn't taken off his clothes, lying there fully dressed. Aurelia's fingers curled, touching the smooth fabric of his shirt.
Their eyes met.
The atmosphere was unusually ambiguous.
Nathaniel was only awake for a few seconds before his large hand pressed against the back of her neck, pulling her closer and kissing her.
