Chapter 385 Why Was She in the Obstetrics Department?
The next morning, Nathaniel got up early to make breakfast. He prepared a rather lavish meal, having recently asked the housekeeper for several recipes. As usual, he had a video call open, with the housekeeper guiding him remotely while he cooked.
After all, this was the last breakfast he would make for them in a while; who knew when he would get another chance. He made sure it was a feast.
Following a balanced diet, he included main dishes, proteins, dietary fiber, and fruits. Everything was there.
Aurelia came downstairs with the two kids after washing up, and Nathaniel had already filled the table with food, making breakfast feel like a grand banquet.
Aurelia noticed the faint dark circles under Nathaniel's eyes and asked, "Did you get up very early?"
"Not really, it wasn't that early," Nathaniel replied, not telling the truth. He barely slept at all. Rather than lying there, he thought it better to get up and make food for Aurelia and the kids.
Watching her eat, Nathaniel couldn't help but think of Caleb, who was lingering in Coral Bay. Now that she was going back, he wondered if that annoying Caleb would cling to Aurelia again, trying to win her favor. It was really troubling.
After the family of four finished breakfast, there was no time to clean up the kitchen. Nathaniel drove them to the airport, where Dahlia was already waiting. After picking up the tickets, Dahlia took several suitcases to check in.
Nathaniel finally spoke up after holding back the whole way, "Aurelia, I'll fly over in three days."
Aurelia nodded indifferently.
Nathaniel asked again, "Is there nothing you want to say to me?"
Aurelia thought for a moment. She really didn't have anything to say and replied perfunctorily, "Remember to bring your documents."
"Okay, anything else?"
"Don't leave anything behind when you get off the plane."
"That's it?"
Aurelia looked puzzled, "What else?"
Nathaniel smiled bitterly, feeling she was heartless. She was taking the kids and leaving him alone in Imperick without a word of comfort.
He leaned down, cupped the back of her head, and kissed her on the lips, "Wait for me, and don't flirt with other men."
Aurelia, caught off guard, pushed him away quickly, "What are you doing? This is an airport!"
Nathaniel glanced at the couples saying goodbye nearby and smirked, "So what if it's an airport?"
Aurelia glared at him and warned in a voice only the two of them could hear, "Mr. Heilbronn, mind your status. You're still on probation."
Nathaniel had heard this phrase the most in the past few days and was already numb to it, "I'll work hard to get a permanent position soon."
The boarding announcement started playing, and Aurelia took the kids to line up for security. Nathaniel reluctantly picked up the two kids. The older one wouldn't let him kiss, but he could still kiss the younger ones, right?
He kissed Dorothy on the left and was immediately pushed away by Jacob on the right, "Daddy, boys can't kiss boys!"
Nathaniel smiled bitterly, "What's wrong with a dad kissing his kid?"
Jacob didn't give his dad any respect and said bluntly, "Go kiss Mommy. I'm a bit grossed out by you."
Aurelia stifled a laugh in front. Indeed, boys were not as affectionate, and they were so straightforward in their disdain. She couldn't bear to look at Nathaniel's expression now.
At the security checkpoint, those seeing off had to stop there.
Aurelia held the kids tightly and said goodbye to him before going in to line up for boarding.
Nathaniel stood at the security checkpoint until he couldn't see them anymore, then walked out of the airport and got into his car. Before he finished a cigarette, his phone rang.
"Bro, I got beaten up. Can you come over now?" On the other end, Ashley was crying miserably. Nathaniel took a slow drag on his cigarette, not showing any urgency on his face.
He knew his sister well. She was always dramatic, and even a small issue would get this reaction from her. Besides, with her arrogant personality, she probably provoked someone first.
Nathaniel exhaled a smoke ring and asked, "Who hit you?"
Ashley cried pitifully, "I'm at the hospital. While waiting in line, a tall, strong man hit me."
After a pause, she added, "He just paid the fee and came back, saying he would deal with us again. Bro, hurry up, I'm really scared!"
"Send me the address."
After hanging up, Ashley immediately sent her location. When Nathaniel arrived, Ashley was squatting in the hallway, her face red and swollen with faint finger marks, clearly having been hit.
Seeing her like this, Nathaniel knew she had met her match.
When Ashley saw Nathaniel coming out of the elevator, she looked like she had seen a savior. She immediately stood up, tears flowing uncontrollably, "Bro!"
Her cry attracted the attention of a tall, burly middle-aged man nearby, who turned to Nathaniel and warned Ashley, "No matter who comes today, we need to talk this out. Don't think you're off the hook just because your brother is here. This isn't over."
Nathaniel walked in with big strides. Before he could ask, the man spoke first, "Are you her brother?"
Nathaniel raised an eyebrow and asked Ashley, "What happened?"
Causing a scene in a hospital, especially in the obstetrics department, and escalating to the point of hitting someone, it was clear the situation was serious.
Ashley cried, "I came for a prenatal checkup with a friend. While waiting in line, I accidentally bumped into his wife, and he slapped me. Bro, I got hit."
The middle-aged man's anger flared up again. Pointing at Ashley, he said, "Try lying again. There's a camera right above us. How can you lie? My wife was so upset by you two that it affected our unborn child. If anything happens, I won't let you off."
The man seemed extremely angry, pacing back and forth at the clinic door, glancing inside from time to time, clearly very worried about the person inside.
Nathaniel glared at Ashley, "What really happened? Tell the truth."
He knew his sister well. She was always causing trouble. As her brother, if she was wronged, he would naturally protect her. But first, he needed to get to the bottom of this.
Ashley was most afraid of Nathaniel's stern face. When he got serious, she didn't dare to complain and kept silent.
The man couldn't hold back any longer and said angrily, "Your sister was standing up for her friend and hit my pregnant wife while waiting in line. My wife is thirty-six weeks pregnant, with a big belly, and got hit in the hospital. Now she's in the emergency room. I've already called the police. Just wait."
The man was so angry he could barely speak. He had just gone to buy a bottle of water, and when he came back, his wife had been slapped in public at the hospital. Anyone would be furious.
In a fit of rage, he had slapped one of the women who hit his wife. He didn't touch the other woman holding the prenatal checkup form.
People around them started to speak up, "Yes, this girl looks so delicate, but she pulled someone's hair and slapped them. It's really too much."
"Hitting a pregnant woman, these two girls have no decency. This gentleman should have taught her a lesson. One slap isn't enough."
"I saw it too. This girl and her friend cut in line. The pregnant woman reminded them to queue up, and this girl started hitting her. Someone should take a photo and expose her online."
Nathaniel was full of disappointment in his sister, but a bigger question loomed: why was she in the obstetrics department?
Nathaniel asked, "Are you pregnant?"
