Chapter 13 I Felt Nauseous
"Uncle Marcus, why are you here?" Aurelia inquired.
In the living room downstairs, Marcus was sitting on the sofa, sipping his coffee. It was his first time at the Bloom Villa.
"Mrs. Heilbronn , you're awake? My father wants to see you. He asked me to bring you back to the Heilbronn Villa. He wants you to stay there for a few days." It was Ted who spoke.
Marcus nodded, and that explained his presence.
"It's a task assigned by Mr. Reed Heilbronn." There was only half a pot of coffee left on the table, a sign that Marcus had been here for a while.
Aurelia's ears turned slightly red.
She asked Betty, "Why didn't you come up and wake me when we had a guest?"
Betty coughed lightly. She said with some embarrassment, "Mr. Heilbronn specifically instructed me not to wake you. He said you were too tired last night."
Aurelia frowned. They didn't do anything last night, but Betty’s words could easily be misunderstood. And Marcus overheard, which made Aurelia feel embarrassed.
"Mrs. Heilbronn, let me help you with your luggage," Ted said first, then went upstairs to take the suitcase from her.
Aurelia sighed. She knew she couldn't escape.
She didn't know what Nathaniel had told Reed, but she knew it was the reason why Reed sent Marcus and Ted here. Ted usually took care of the family's affairs and wouldn't easily leave. Reed sent Ted and Marcus, leaving her with no excuse to refuse.
Nathaniel anticipated that Aurelia would try to escape and knew that she listened to Reed the most, so he had Reed restrain her.
Reed's car was parked in the yard.
Aurelia locked eyes with Marcus as she got into the car, and they both fell silent for a moment.
Marcus said first, "How's your recovery?"
Aurelia knew what he was referring to, a secret that only Marcus knew. She was grateful that Marcus had kept her secret from Nathaniel.
"I'm doing fine," she replied calmly, giving him a polite smile.
"Remember to follow the doctor's advice." Marcus's words made Aurelia blush instantly. She didn't know if she should explain. She knew Nathaniel must have misunderstood Betty's words, thinking that something had happened between her and Nathaniel last night.
The atmosphere in the car became awkward again. Of course, Ted didn't sense it. He couldn't even understand what the two people in the back seat were saying.
Finally, the car arrived back at the Heilbronn Villa.
Ted placed the suitcase directly in Nathaniel's room.
The living room was bustling, and the servants were busy taking things upstairs to Ashley's room.
There was the sound of dishes breaking and someone crying from upstairs.
Aurelia was about to find Reed when she ran into Mary, who was about to go downstairs to cook.
Aurelia asked in a low voice, "What's wrong with Ashley?"
Mary sighed.
She replied in a hushed tone, "Ashley somehow locked herself on the balcony last night and stayed out in the cold. Now she has a cold and insists on checking the surveillance footage, claiming that someone did it intentionally. We all work for the Heilbronn family. Who would dare to do such a thing to her?"
Aurelia said gently. "Okay."
Mary sighed and went downstairs with the broken dishes. She then began to prepare food for Ashley.
Aurelia went upstairs and happened to see Beatrice coming out of Ashley's bedroom. Beatrice looked distressed, but when she saw Aurelia, her eyes lit up with excitement.
"Aurelia, you're back?" Before Aurelia could find Reed, Beatrice pulled her into the living room downstairs. "Ashley worried us all, just like when she was still a kid. She has got a cold, and it's troublesome. She refuses to take medicine or see a doctor. You and Nathaniel are still doing well."
"People tend to have a bad temper when they are ill. If she really doesn't want to go to the hospital, let's call the family doctor," said Aurelia, remembering the family doctor's car she spotted when she entered the villas just now.
She knew the doctor had already examined Ashley, so she didn't really care. She said that for Beatrice.
"The doctor has already checked her," Beatrice replied.
Ashley heard Aurelia's voice outside. She no longer felt dizzy and was ready to cause trouble. Even her stomachache seemed to have disappeared. She immediately got out of bed and rushed downstairs. "Aurelia, stop pretending to be kind. Did you instruct someone to do that?"
Aurelia was confused. "What do you mean?"
Beatrice quickly hugged Ashley, trying to take her back to her bedroom. "Don't talk nonsense. Aurelia just got back. What could she do?"
Ashley was angry and didn't listen to Beatrice at all. "Mom, let go of me. I'm going to expose her evil trick. You've all been deceived by her pitiful appearance. She resents me for what happened last time... So she instructed someone to lock me on the balcony. There must be someone in our family who works for her."
Ashley was getting agitated and was about to jump up. If Beatrice hadn’t stopped her, she would have run over and hit Aurelia.
Aurelia gazed silently at Ashley who was gripped by the arm by Beatrice, and grinned maliciously. "What do I resent?"
Ashley was stunned. She still didn't dare to mention what happened last time. After all, Reed would directly protect Aurelia.
Thinking of Reed's attitude towards Aurelia, Ashley became even angrier. She didn't understand why Aurelia, as an outsider, deserved Reed's favor. Reed was even closer to Aurelia than to Ashley.
"Aurelia, what else can you do besides pretending to be pitiful and making Reed sympathize with you? If you have the ability, refute me. I won't let you off..."
Aurelia looked at Reed, who was coming downstairs and fell silent. Her eyes were full of grievances as she stood there, letting Ashley verbally attack her.
Ashley, with her back to the stairs, saw Aurelia pretending to be humble again and suddenly felt that her anger had nowhere to vent. She wanted everyone to see Aurelia's true character. She knew that Aurelia was not as easy to bully as she appeared.
"Aurelia, come on! Do you dare to do it or not? I'm going to check the surveillance footage. Are you afraid? You'd better admit it right now and kneel to apologize to me. Otherwise, when I hand the surveillance footage to Nathaniel, he will definitely abandon you. With your identity, do you deserve to marry into the Heilbronn family? You're not worthy of Nathaniel at all!"
Aurelia remained silent, and Ashley finally sensed that something was wrong. She turned around and saw Reed staring at her angrily.
When Reed was angry, no one dared to speak, especially the servants, who didn’t even dare to make a sound.
Beatrice still held onto Ashley's waist, afraid that she would hit Aurelia. Beatrice was soft-hearted and only knew how to educate the children verbally. She was very indulgent towards them, not even scolding Ashley so loudly.
So Ashley was spoiled.
"Dad, I'll take Ashley back to the room right away." Beatrice knew that Reed was very angry, even though he hadn't said anything.
Ashley looked at Beatrice's eyes and finally calmed down.
Reed waved at Ashley. "Come here," Reed spoke calmly, and no one could guess what he was thinking.
Ashley thought Reed was going to help her, and she looked triumphantly at Aurelia as she walked over to Reed.
But the next second, Reed slapped Ashley in the face, causing a loud sound.
