Chapter 260 Office Visitor
Aurelia saw Joe's car roll up and hopped in. She was super worried the kids would freak out if they didn't see her. "Joe, did Jacob and Dorothy give you any trouble last night?"
Joe gave her a once-over, checking she was all good and not banged up, and started to chill out. "The kids crashed waiting for you. What the heck happened yesterday? Why didn't you hit me up?"
Aurelia let out a sigh. "Ran into some trouble after work, but I'm all good now."
"You sure you're not hurt?"
Aurelia shook her head and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Swallowed some seawater. Doc said to stay for observation, but I'm fine now and ready to bounce."
Joe's face got serious. He knew how tough it was to find Aurelia, and Cathy would lose it if anything happened to her again. "Are you sure you can leave? It's not been a full day. Maybe you should stick around for a bit."
Aurelia was itching to see her kids. She had promised Dorothy a toy, but then all that drama happened. "I'm good. No issues. I just wanna go home."
Joe started the car and headed back. "Were you with Nathaniel yesterday?"
Aurelia's brow twitched. Of course, Joe would figure it out. "He just happened to be there and saved me. Took me to the hospital. It wasn't planned."
Joe trusted her, but Nathaniel? Not so much. He smelled a rat. Maybe it was all a setup to get her to forgive him.
No one bought the "just happened to be there" story. Joe thought that guy was definitely up to something and decided to dig into this.
In Coral Bay, messing with the Semona Family was a big no-no. Someone was asking for trouble.
They pulled up to the villa. The kids were having breakfast, looking kinda down.
Dorothy hadn't seen Aurelia before bed, and Dahlia had told her she'd see Aurelia in the morning. First thing in the morning, she ran to Aurelia's room, but no dice.
She couldn't reach her by phone either, and she was super worried, barely touching her breakfast.
Jacob was handling it better. He was more independent and not as clingy as Dorothy.
Aurelia rushed in, and the kids' heads snapped up. Dorothy dropped her spoon and bolted into Aurelia's arms. "Mommy, where were you? I couldn't reach you!"
Aurelia didn't want to scare the kids with yesterday's drama. She smiled and picked Dorothy up, plopping her on a chair by the table. "Mommy had some work to finish, so I got back late. Were you good?"
"Yeah, we were good. Dahlia said you'd be back in the morning, so we went to sleep."
Aurelia patted her head. "Good job!"
Aurelia wasn't sure who had grabbed her yesterday, so she didn't want the kids going to school, just in case. "You can chill at home for a few days. I'll get you excused from school."
Jacob, munching on his sandwich, lit up at the news. No kindergarten meant more time for his robot project. He was stoked. "Really, Mommy?"
Aurelia nodded. "Yep."
Jacob tried his luck. "Mommy, can you excuse me from school every day?"
Aurelia got serious. She was a bit worried about Jacob. His mind was always buzzing with ideas, and she never knew what he was up to, unlike the obedient Dorothy.
Aurelia said, "Jacob, Mommy's letting you off this time because of special circumstances. Once this is over, you gotta go back to school."
Jacob mumbled an "Oh," and shuffled off to mess with his robots, less excited.
Aurelia had a quick breakfast with Dorothy and then grabbed the file folder Nathaniel had given her. She hadn't checked it out properly last night, but it was stuffed with property deeds, making it bulge. He wasn't just talking; he was serious.
Aurelia needed a new phone ASAP. The company was new, and she couldn't afford to be out of touch. She went to Joe's garage, grabbed a random car, and headed to the company. A client was coming to pick up some jewelry and pay the balance. The finished product was locked in her drawer, and no one else could get it.
After all the running around, she was already late when she got to the company. Luckily, she was the boss and could come in whenever.
As soon as Aurelia stepped out of the elevator, she saw Aurora's anxious face and guessed the client had already arrived. She quickened her pace and walked in, with Aurora trailing behind. "Anne, there's a guest in your office."
Aurelia opened the office door.
Nova, dressed in elegant haute couture, was sitting on the sofa sipping tea. Seeing Aurelia, she quickly put down her cup and stood up."Anne, you're here."
Aurelia's expression froze. She thought it was a client, but it was her. She didn't beat around the bush. "Miss Sinclair, there's no need to keep coming here. Our studio has been renamed and won't do custom orders anymore. Soon, our branded jewelry will be on the market. I hope you will support us then."
Nova held back her frustration and thought, ' How does Caleb fall for such a cold and aloof woman? She is beautiful but so hard to approach.'
She wasn't here to buy jewelry this time but had taken Caleb's money to keep an eye on the men around Aurelia and drive them away by any means necessary. If he hadn't paid her well, she wouldn't have taken on this thankless task.
Nova pouted and put on a pitiful expression. "Anne, I'm so miserable. I was kicked out and came to Coral Bay to seek refuge with my brother. But as soon as I got off the plane, I heard he was ambushed and is now stuck in Imperick. I have no family here, and my dad froze my bank cards. I only had enough change to buy a burger for lunch."
Nova was a great actress, almost squeezing out tears, portraying herself as a fallen heiress. "Anne, you're the only person I know in Coral Bay. You won't leave me hanging, will you?"
Aurelia's brow twitched. She didn't buy this heiress's sob story. The watch on Nova's wrist would fetch thousands bucks even second-hand. She couldn't possibly be in need of help.
Aurelia was pondering how to deal with Nova when Nathaniel walked in with a box containing a phone. He and Nova locked eyes, like enemies meeting.
